The opening scene for The Lunar Chronicles by @marissameyerauthor, featuring Cinder, Kai, Iko (who is basically an EVE/Wall-E love-child), an unconscious Nainsi and a bunch of easter egg items, as requested in our poll. This was definitely one where the background itself was its own character; There's so much happening here and it's very nuanced. I think those who aren't familiar with the book will have a hard time figuring out what's happening here - but seriously, caption this artwork: "Doting dad drops off his two android kids at day camp where the youngest has already stolen the cyborg foot off of the caretaker." ... and it still works. In order to fish for Easter Egg items, I re-listed to the Lunar Chronicles for the first time since I first read them a few years back; they were my gateway series into the bookish community and I absolutely fell in love with it all over again! I have Gilded on my TBR shortlist, and just recently listed to Heartless last month. I'm definitely on a Meyer bender, with the fabulous Rebecca Soler (the narrator) to keep me company!

Auguste Toulmouche’s 1866 painting “The Hesitant Fiancée” is making the rounds on TikTok FYPs across the globe, inviting women of all ages to not only marvel at and meme-ify the bride’s pissed off scowl, but see themselves in it, too.

Ron Hicks* masterfully guides viewers into the emotional realm of art. His paintings draw viewers into the very personal worlds of stolen kisses, handwritten letters and mysterious bedroom scenes. "I open a dialogue for a story, and it’s up to the viewer to interpret it", Hicks says. Just as he employs muted tones - often grays - to render his paintings.

A scene from Kingdom of Ash where Aelin and Rowan take a quiet moment during their cave treasure pilfering to exchange rings. This whole cave scene was one of my favorites of the book. A time for the group to breathe and collect themselves, and features one of the most heartbreaking hugs I've ever read. 😭💔 It was lovely to revisit this!

Akiya Kageichi is a Japanese illustrator who calls himself Golden Gravel, a name which may refer to Japanese rock gardens. His sinister jesters, lazy rulers and clandestine warriors are set within scenes full of chaotic imagery. Astrological symbols, particularly moons, are heavily prominent, suggesting the mysterious forces of dark nights are at work. In a single plane, objects morph, creating dynamic and active scenes. Kageichi reveals hidden underworlds and secret futures, in which sorcery and witchcraft pull the strings and determine what happens in the real world.

Featuring Nathaniel and Elisabeth (and a bonus Silas!) in a tender, snowy scene from Sorcery of Thorns by @margaret_rogerson! This was such a heart-heavy scene and I have so many feelings for all three. (I know Silas walked out of the room, but there's no reason to suspect there wasn't a U-Turn)

American painter David Hettinger began drawing around the age of 8. His subjects were T.V. and movie cowboys. At age 13 he was given a set of oil paints by Mike Spencer, a local artist who ran the barber shop across from St. Joe's School where Hettinger was a student. Formal art training began at the American Academy of Art in Chicago under Joseph vanden Brouck. Under Mr. Van, as he was called, Hettinger learned classical realism and the techniques of the Flemish, Dutch and Spanish Masters.
