Hello! It’s Robyn Wood with you today sharing an altered photo frame project. Recently, I reorganised my craft space and felt the need for some new art to decorate walls. I’d bought a cheap picture frame ages ago with the...
Hello everyone, I am here to show you beautiful project created by our April challenge winner - Olga Ravenskaya. She is our Guest Designer today. So grab your cup of coffee and enjoy :) blog instagram Hello dear friends! It's Olga Ravenskaya here with my project for the beautiful May Challenge! But firstly I'd like to say a huge thank you to MMP team for the invitation, it's a great honor and pleasure! I live in a beautiful southern city Rostov-on-Don, Russia. Almost 3 years ago I fell in love with scrap and mixed media and now it's my hobby and passion! My heart belongs to paints, flowers and paper, I'm strictly addicted to mixing colors and textures, to find out new shades, to learn and try everything new :) I love to make home decor pieces, so I've created a photo frame named My Place. I've chosen one of my favorite photos, taken in the Old Town of Rostov. I'm in love with the May moodboard with its gorgeous color combo of teal, grey and dark blue. I've used lots of Finnabair's goodies - Black gesso, Acrylic Metallique paints, Fantasy pastes, waxes. Hope you'll enjoy my project! Mixed Media Place supplies:
Hello Everyone and Happy New Year from me, I hope it's going to be a really good one for us all. Today I'm kicking off with my first Snazzy's make of 2012 using some fabulous papers and stickers from the 7 Dots Studio Dreamer Collection. This is a gorgeous set of double sided 12 x 12 papers which are really good quality and weight so are suitable for lots of projects as well as stickers and diecut elements. In the fab DT parcel of products Don and Val sent us to play ... work with there was a really nice Tando Creative Mini Printer's Tray and stand so I decided to use this for my first project this month. I used the sheet of paper called Sweet Dreams from the collection, making use of both sides of the paper for different parts of my project, together with stickers from the 6 x 12 sheet (there is a 12 x 12 sheet of stickers too). To cover the background I tamped down the colours a little with Picket Fence Distress Stain and sprayed some pieces with Marshmallow Glimmer Mist. I placed the pieces onto the back board and adhered them before I assembled the 'sectioned' layers and before I attached these I covered them with Tissue Tape and added a little colour with Distress Inks (Evergreen Bough, Wild Honey and Gathered Twigs). The heart is one I made from Platignum UTEE using my Melt Pot and I covered the little wooden bobbin with Gathered Twigs Distress Ink and then wound some paper thread round it. The little rolls are strips of silk sari ribbon from my stash as are the buttons. The trim and charms are from my stash too but Snazzy's have a wonderful new selection of steampunk charms to check out. I diecut the mannequin from card and from the 7 Dots paper and layered them for a little extra stability, inked the edges with Gathered Twigs Distress Ink then made a little skirt of mesh ribbon and Tissue Tape. I made a little chatelaine with tiny scissors and a key attached. The little crocheted flower came from an old top I threw out a few weeks ago. I always remove any embellishments from my old stuff, lol! I then attached it to the tray with 3D foam pads. The quote is from a set of Dylusions stamps which I cut into strips and raised on 3D foam pads. Finally I covered the two pieces of the stand with acrylic paint on the back and the 7 Dots paper on the front before inking round the edges with the Gathered Twigs Distress Ink and adding the oval sticker at the front. Just a little appetiser for everyone before I finish my post for today. I've been asked to mention that as January is a five week month, Snazzy's will be holding a challenge for all our blog visitors during the last week together with extra inspiration projects from the Design Team so keep popping back to find out what the challenge will be (there is goodies to be won). Well that's it for today. I hope you liked my little tray. It was certainly fun to do. Check back later in the week when I have another project to share. Hugs Lesley Xx
Today is the day for Crafty Secret's new product blog hop! One of my favorite products by Crafty Secret's are the Creative Scraps. The images are so detailed and beautiful! And now, they are double sided! Which I love, because I am all about versatility and options! I found these cheap little wooden frames at Hobby Lobby for a buck a piece and knew that they would be cute to alter. I painted this frame with Tim Holtz white crackle paint and while it was wet, I sprinkled it with Dazzling Diamonds. The edges were distressed with a bit of ink. Using my glue gun I added some Spanish moss and some Prima Flowers. I just slipped the Birds & Blossoms Creative Scrap behind the frame, added some seam binding to create a hanger.....and voila! A cute little wall hanging done in about a half an hour! Fast by "Michele Kovack" standards! LOL! Be sure to head on over to the other DT blogs for more fabulous projects! Hello, everyone! Today I have an altered photo frame I created using gear chipboard from Creative Embellishments and lots of mixed media products from DecoArts. I had the idea for the frame but didn't really have a good photo to put inside the frame but then I remembered I had this photo of my son playing paintball. Watch my process video below to see how I created the rusty effect. Make sure to subscribe to my YouTube channel to get updates when I post a new video. On the corners of the frame, I used the Steampunk Gear Corners 2 from Creative Embellishments and added a few smaller chipboard Gears on top of them. On the frame itself, I used a Metal Stencil with some modeling paste to go with the steampunk feel. Interested in the products I used? Product links to multiple shops are below, for your convenience. Challenge is open till May, 8th. The winner will be invited to be Guest Designer on our blog. ________________________________________________________________________ This month Guest Designer is Veena Chowdhry instagram facebook youtube pinterest blog Hello all, I am so happy to be a Finnabair Guest Designer for this month's Challenge. I really loved the pastel shades of the current month mood board. I have created a mixed media project on a canvas and used newly launched moulds from Finnabair to create the composition. To start with, I prepped my canvas with white gesso and applied crackle paste on the top half of the canvas. I then applied metallique acrylic paints - “Light Patina” and “Pink-Blue”(opal magic) on the canvas and watered the paints down by spraying water and I let the colors flow naturally. After that, I applied white gesso on the resin embellishments and applied metallique acrylic paints - “French Lavender”, “Light Patina” and “Pink-Blue”(opal magic) on them. I removed some of the paints using a wet wipe to give the embellishments a shabby look. Then I used “Frosty Pearl” Icing paste to highlight the embellishments. I then built the composition by adhering the embellishments with Heavy body gel on the canvas. I also added Prima flowers to the composition. Then, I selected few thick leaves and ornament chipboards, applied “Mediterranean” impasto paint on them. Once dried, I randomly embossed the chipboards with shabby white EP. I also white embossed few more chipboards and sprinkled glitter on them. I added the chipboards under the flowers and resin embellishments. Then I colored some art pebbles and added them to the composition. To adorn the project, I added art stones, glass beads, sequins and pearls. To finish the project, I added Mermaid effect paste around the composition and added “French Lavender” metallique paint splatters. I hope you like my project and feel inspired to participate. Happy Crafting! -Veena Inspiration from our team: Hello crafty friends! The first thing that came into my mind, when looking at the beautiful Moodboard, was a Shaker, this filled with sweet shiny sequins. So I decided to give it a go for the first time ever using, as my usual, recycled objects. For the base of the shaker I grabbed Granulated Coffee jar lids, painted them with Metalique Paints and spread Effect pastes in the inside. When it was dry, I added the sequins and closed with a piece of transparency sheet. I was going to give each one a totally different look but after painting the big Cog with Soft impasto paint I like it so much and decided to use the Cog in all compositions. You will find below all products I have used here. Looking forward to seeing your creations for this month! Xoxo Products I have used - all the images linked to Mixed Media Place online store: In an blink of an eye, it’s the first of May, so I thought creating some pretty pastel coloured masks would be a lovely way to welcome spring, May, and light nights coming. I wanted to be the idea simple, so incredibly simple that this would be a project easily done, even with children. I had a couple of paper mâché half masks, so I did two different shapes just to show that the idea is versatile of pretty much any kind of masks. The masks had a bit rough surface so, using scraps of Finnabair Flutter tissue paper and Soft matte Gel, I covered the masks, making sure that I had all the edges and eye holes neatly covered, too. Then, I primed the masks with white Heavy Gesso and then painted them with a mix of Impastos Lavender and Snow White. Next, using Finnabair stencil Passiflora and Frosty Pearl Icing Paste, I created some flowery depth, following the outline and edges of my masks. The intricate pattern made so beautiful lacey outlook onto the masks it was really a shame to put anything on top, but as I had moulds in my mind, moulds it was. (Adding moulds is the part you could easily skip if you do this with kids and want an instant result!) I wanted to create masks looking like clear spring morning sunrise, filled with sparkling hope. Using Art Noveau, Flower Queen, and Nocturnal Elements moulds by Finnabair, I made some lovely flowers and stars with air dry clay and let them dry overnight. Next day, I attached them with Heavy Body Gel and let dry again. I also added a bit of Soft Matte Gel around the clay motifs and sprinkled Mini Art Stones to kind of tie the flowers and stars and the mask together. After I was sure the masks were completely dry and safe to start painting over with, I continued. (This is why I told you that if you want to create masks with children or you are in a hurry, you can easily skip the mould part and stick to some beautiful stencil pattern – or add paper flowers etc.) First, I used Metallique Opal Magic Aqua Rose for painting the clay motifs and around them, next I painted the edges of the masks with Opal Magic Pink-Blue. I highlighted the paints here and there with a hint of Vintage Rose for the pink parts and Light Patina for the blue parts and blended the two colours a bit with Liquid Acrylic Titanium White in the middle of the masks. To add some structure and depth, I mixed Impastos Dark Chocolate, Pitch Black, and Linen for some shadowing and gently painted the edges of the masks, including eye holes, and blended the shadowing with baby wipes so that the dark shadowing was as delicate as possible. I did the same with and around the clay motifs. As the finishing touch, I highlighted the pink parts with Jewel Paste Rose Quartz and blue parts with Jewel Paste Diamond Rings and added a hint of Golden Dust Jewel Paste here and there for warmth. I only used Jewel Pastes a little, with wet brush and sprayed water to blend them even more, as I wanted soft glimmer not instantly visible. And after the Jewel Pastes were dry, I sprinkled some white paint splashes all over the masks using Impasto Snow White and very wet brush. These matte sprinkles balanced the shiny metallic paints and Jewel pastes and made the masks look like they were hundreds of stars shining gently in the morning sky, welcoming a new day. Wishing you beautiful moments in soft, dreamy colours, Emilia Products I have used - all the images linked to Mixed Media Place online store: Hello my friends! I would like to share this little project I made inspired by April Art Recipe Moodboard. I was sooo excited to create something in this colour scheme! I don’t usually go for such delicate colours, so this was one of the biggest steps out of my comfort zone that I have ever taken! I decided to use this old photo frame as a sort of tray as it had nice deep edges and plenty of surface to work on, then I put some music on, grabbed my tea and wen to town on it! :D I used a lot of mechanicals, opal magic paints (because they have that lovely iridescent colour to them), glass beads, glitter and literally anything and everything that I could think of to try and achieve that Unicorn/Candy floss look! One of my favourite things to use were the Art pebbles that Look like little water droplets! They fit in so perfectly in to this project! As you can see, I am very excited to have created something in a style/colour scheme that I’ve never dabbled in so I hope that my excitement will catch on to you too and you’ll create something amazing inspired by this mood board! You can also see the video I made showing the process below, so I hope it will give you some ideas! Hello friends! Today I have a gentle inspiration for a cool and new job in my favorite blog 7 Dots Studio! Mudbord this month is very inspiring and I wanted to do something pretty. I rarely use my photos in my projects, I prefer to leave them for the family circle. This is my personal conviction and to scrapbooking with the style of the mixed-media, I treat as creativity, not classical rules. And here I wanted to relax a bit from the layouts and play with a light background. I adore stencils from 7 Dots Studio, they are versatile and always very stylish! Also I played with my favorite tags, stickers and elements for cutting out and of course, made the backing. but wrapped them in decor. We are waiting for your projects for a new challenge and be sure to check the blog for a portion of inspiration from the designers! Hello friends! You might recognize this framed mixed media vignette from my mixed media framed Focus Word 'Home' HERE. I can assure you this is a completely different make, but the scene inside is very similar. Like before, I removed the canvas from a framed print and altered the frame. My background, die cut Tiny House, and other embellishments are pretty much the same as my previous make. If you have questions on how I made the scene inside the frame you can find details HERE. Has anyone else ever tried to case their own work? I think it's 100 times harder than starting fresh. But, you see, I was making this for my good friend, Autumn, who commented that my 'Home' piece was a favorite of hers. I wanted to make one for her, and I had the pleasure of delivering it to her in person this weekend at a way-too-short crafty weekend. I also had the honor of meeting some of her local friends. Hi Bonnie, Hi Carol, Hi Madelyn! No step by steps, but I can hopefully guide you through the process of the frame transformation. After removing the canvas, I gessoed the inside lip of the frame, since that would only be painted. I cut four pieces of designer paper to fit the frame front and four strips to fit the sides. The front pieces were embossed with an embossing folder, and everything was adhered, trimmed and sanded. I blended on Distress inks, splashed with some water and dried. Using two stencils, I added flourishes with Distress ink and crayon and a bit of crackle paint, and lattice with crackle paint. I sanded when the crackle dried, and added some gold crackle paste over the crackle paint. Smudges of rust paint were added both watered down and neat. Next I smudged on crayons and blended until I thought it looked like a real vintage frame. The inner edges were colored with Distress inks and oxides, and little bits of tissue tape cover the corner crevasses. To preserve the layers, I gave it all a couple coats of Distress Vintage Collage Medium. A vintage ruler and some vintage lace from an estate sale, and a couple of Quote Chips provide some balance and a title. I didn't realize this when I created this, but Autumn had used a similar ruler on a favorite piece she made HERE. My ruler was really grungy with years of grime and rust, but I cleaned it up a bit by sanding it. The Quote chips were colored with Distress Oxides and crayon and given a light coat of vintage collage medium. The tiny fluff of 'weeds' is netting from that vintage hat I described and used HERE. And those 'art stones'? Ha! Ha! As President of the 'Waste Not Want Not' club, I made those from a glob off almost dried light modeling paste I found in my jar. I thought Autumn would appreciate my frugality. Well, that about sums it up! I appreciate your visit today! Hugs and Blessings! Hi again! Today is St. Valentine's Day and although I'm not that much into celebrating it - I found a project to show you which will fit perfectly into the "love is in the air" mood! It is an inspiring mix of "grungy" and "sweet" and love the photo of us I put in this frame too - great fit, don't you think? When creating this project I wanted to get the result quite opposite to my "Heart of the Clock" class - instead of black and metallic look, full of drama and shining elements I picked delicate and feminine colour palette and "broke it"a bit with rustical, vintage touches. I could not wait to see the results of my new Rust Paste sets in action - so I added a few new clours to create the impression the clock got covered in rust and moss - and oh, how much I love this raw, organic look! My new Paper Paste, which I used to cover the whole frame in a quite random mood is a great, partly absorbent surface to work on. Beautiful, matte texture it gives is just perfect to spray or paint with acrylic paints - and the results are outstanding! (You can see more in this Facebook Live Video, if you'd like to learn more!) There are literally tons of layers packed inside - you can see lace, chipboards, Prima flowers, my Mechanicals and much, much more, all that spiced up with a bit of colour and microbeads for extra shine. Because you always need more sparkle in your life, right? The outside of the frame is pretty busy too - clusters of flowers, pebbles and metal elements were all glued together with Art Basics Heavy Body Gel and painted with Snow White Art Alchemy Impasto Paint, which is so opaque and matte it can be used instead of white gesso. Later I was just playing with spraying, highlighting (Metallique White Pearl paint is a must-have on my table!) and rusting... Fun! I've made this project for Art Venture Class in South Africa - so it is going to stay in our home for sure - and as it is so close to my heart, I'm very happy about it. It's been a while since I was using a photo of us both, especially taken so recently on my project... it is going to be a special keepsake for me! I hope you like it - here are some art mediums and embellishments which I used - all linked to Mixed Media Place Store: Wishing you a wonderful day, filled with love and happiness!
It's here! The day has come when I have to put together my post to audition for the Graphic 45 Design Team 2012! I have been on the team for two years, and you would think I'd not be nervous! I love being on this team! It's one of the best experiences I've ever had as part of a design team. Honest. I'm not just saying that! I don't want to leave! Ever! The current team was told that starting this year, we could only apply for two years in a row. The fact that Graphic 45 is allowing Jane and me to apply for a third year, as a courtesy, is mind blowing! I am anxious and....well... Here is my submission for the 2012 team! This is the layout that I submitted to Spellbinders last year as my final 2011 design team contest project. I emailed them today and asked (begged) to be allowed to share it on my blog. I used all Graphic 45 papers and love how the layout turned out. It's never been shown before, but Spellbinders has given me permission to show it on my blog. I love all the layers and textures of this project. I am very proud of it and am pleased to share it today! Below are a few close-ups. The layout was part of an ensemble, so here is a photo of the matching card. The next layout was one I made for Summer CHA, using An ABC Primer papers. I love the photo of my mother-in-law and think this layout displays the photo perfectly. I wanted to share a few mini albums also, since that is something I love to make. I have made many mini albums using Graphic 45 papers. Here are two of my favorites! I made this mini and altered box for Summer CHA. I've also done a tutorial for making it. Check my tutorials tab at the top of the blog. I made this Le Cirque album several months ago. It's an interactive album. Lots of fun, lots of surprises, lots of tags! Next up, altered projects. I tried to pick just one, but could not! I had too many that I loved! This first one is an altered tag that I made for Diane Schultz, Graphic 45 owner, for her last birthday. It was a labor of love for an amazing lady. (Ok, I'm just sucking up now!) I even added a vintage light bulb, to signify Diane's "light bulb moments"! My favorite project EVER is this printers tray. I made this for my craft space. I look at it all the time and say, "Man, I am so great I cannot stand myself!" The next two projects are altered frames. They are those cheap, $1.99 frames you buy at the craft store! But look at them now! I created this project to show how to alter Graphic 45 Metal Staples. It now sits on a shelf in my entry way. Love it! Love it lots! I created this next frame for Hampton Art Stamps, Winter 2012 CHA. I hand colored and cut all those little bottles. (Olde Curiosity Shoppe stamps) My family loved this frame and were sad when I had to mail it off to CHA! Last, but not least...cards! It was hard to pick the cards I wanted to showcase here. I've done so many! There are some I love so much. There were a few I could not show since they are for upcoming Graphic 45 Blog posts, a few use items that I cannot promote due to another design contract...so these are the cards I chose... I know you've seen this one a few times here on the blog. But it remains one of my favorite cards, ever. I love everything about it! I also wanted to show some things I had done with Graphic 45 stamps, Decades inks, and Copic Markers. I am pretty versatile, and wanted to remind the "voting committee" of that! {grin} I created this card for Winter 2012 CHA, for a demo board I made. I think this next card was created for Hampton Art Stamps, for their Summer 2011 CHA booth. And last, this is a tag I made last winter. I ended up recreating (in a more simple style) it for all Archivers stores! Well, that's my submission! I hope it's enough to show that I love Graphic 45 papers...and I know how to use them!

Nothing lost! You can still check both posts. And if you have seen them already, we invite you for another feast for the eyes with Clock Faces. 969370 Clock Faces The moulds are of high quality. They play well with so many types of media: paper clay, air dry clay, polymer clay, earthen clay, hot glue, and even chocolate (food safe rated)! Practically any moulding medium. We will be showing the possibilities during the next 10 days. All moulds sheet size: 5'' x 8'' (12.5 cm. to 20.5 cm.) and they come in separate packages, as shown below: Samples: Projects including Clock Faces moulds: New moulds used in the above project: The designs of the new moulds are beautiful and inspiring. It is so hard to decide where to start and what to use first. And everything can be combined so nicely. Wings with clocks, cogs and even a little heart in this combination will not surprise anyone. I put a simple composition on a wooden base which I coloured with blue patina paste. When everything was dry I added a bit of rust and at the end, I used old vintage wax. I am delighted with the final result!
