Less Is more Next to nothing. Save Hannibal. Hannibal's empty kitchen cold and heartless - altho I think there is still some liver in the fridge... Normally, I am fairly outraged when there aren’t any food scenes in a new Hannibal script. How is a food stylist supposed to deal with being left out of the fun and blood? And although this episode was all about how each of Hannibal’s victims fared since we last saw them bleeding out on Hannibal’s lawn, surely they had a snack or two in those intervening years. Other than hospital food. Really, Writer’s Room. Just a pick-up of the Sacrificial Lamb dinner scene from last year? Really? reheated from Season two - Sacrificial Lamb tastes as good as it did last year. But given this week’s cancellation of Hannibal, one realizes that a Hannibal episode without food is a small complaint compared to No Hannibal Ever Again. It's not over til it's over... We always knew our beautiful show didn’t have the ratings for automatic renewal. But NBC did renew, in large part due to the outcry from Fannibals around the world. For two additional seasons, you amazing incredible Fannibals saved Hannibal. And now, you are doing everything you can to save him again. If you can it will be some resurrection! antique cookbook from Katia, portrait by Lauren, plushie mini-me and baby wendi by Nancy, flower crown by TattleCrime and buttons, stickers, cards - sent to lucky me! Working on this show has been fantastic but the most moving experience of all has been getting to know you – reading your tweets and comment and seeing your Hannimeals, your fabulous art, hilarious GIFS, generous praise – and occasional swag (thank-you for the lovely thoughtful presents you sent me!) You really are the most wonderful community on the internet. Our Fearless Leader's winning ways Although Bryan is doing a new series, Neil Gaiman’s “American Gods”, he has said he foresaw no problem doing both shows and is very motivated to find a new home for Hannibal. Still actively looking for a broadcaster, he even hinted at the idea of a feature movie that would tell the final story of Hannibal and Will. And why not – Hannibal has quite the track record on the big screen. Saturn Award to Bryan for Best Network Show (plus wins for Hugh for Best Actor and Lawrence for Best Supporting) There are lots of extenuating circumstances and conflicting complications – like Hannibal’s current streaming agreement with Amazon which disallows an arrangement with Netflix. And the very avid support of international distributors which, however strong, is contingent on the NBC deal. But anything is possible in the wacky world of Hollywood dealmaking. So we live in hope. couldn't resist retweeting @hanni_candyman's Disco Hannibal "I will Survive" by Gloria Gaynor (illustration by Omix) #SaveHannibal Will Hannibal be saved? Who knows what the Fates have in store? Mostly, we should remember – there is still so much more Hannibal on our plates this season. We still have 9 glorious episodes to thrill upon. Instead of drowning in the sadness of NBC's departure, we should relish the feast that is before us with all the love and keen attention we have always given this most deserving of shows. Now serving Season 3 – Team Hannibal’s best effort yet. The rest of Hannibal’s summer stretches out before us in all its splendor. Let’s pour the wine and dine! (Dear assistants, Victoria @victoriaMwalsh and John @Crustcrumbs - if you are reading this, could you comment with a cocktail suggestion to boost our spirits?) Feeding Fannibals one episode at a time. With love. Next week: Hannibal is really, really bad. Don't make sausages for dinner when you watch Episode 5. Highlights A MOST ANTICIPATED BOOK - MEET THE MILANIS. About the Author: POROCHISTA KHAKPOUR was born in Tehran and raised in the Greater Los Angeles area. 320 Pages Fiction + Literature Genres, Women Description About the Book "From the critically-acclaimed novelist and essayist, the hilarious, heartwarming story of the Milanis-an Iranian American family who live in wealth and whose recent foray into the spotlight will force them to divulge long-kept family secrets and bring them closer than ever before When Ali and Homa Milani first immigrated from Iran to the United States, they struggled to make ends meet. Now multimillionaires and self-proclaimed American Fast-Food Moguls, they've established a name for themselves: they're the Milanis, derisively dubbed "Persian Royalty" by prominent Los Angeles gossip rags. On the precipice of getting their own reality TV show, they have it all-a mansion in downtown L.A., a lucrative business, and four spirited daughters. The shy Violet, whose budding modeling career will force her to reckon with her wicked sweet tooth; the outspoken and fiery Roxanna whose manicure is rivalled only by her perfectly curated Instagram; the reclusive Mina who spends most of her days on online fandom forums; the youngest, Haylee, who finds herself falling down internet conspiracy rabbit holes. Each of the Milanis has something to hide, and in front of the glaring lights of a TV camera, the truth threatens to come out at the powerful climax. What will happen when the world discovers the secrets they've been keeping? Sharply observed and compulsively readable, Tehrangeles is a dramatic family saga about the difficulty of healing dysfunctional familial relationships and the ever-present struggle to find acceptance of one's true self"-- Book Synopsis A MOST ANTICIPATED BOOK - MEET THE MILANIS. FAST-FOOD HEIRESSES, L.A. ROYALTY, AND YOUR NEWEST REALITY TV OBSESSION "Delightfully twisted and heartfelt...Khakpour is a satirist extraordinaire...The antics and agonies of the Milani family had me googling pet psychics and turning the pages gleefully--at turns surprised and horrified, but always charmed and laughing so hard." --Kevin Kwan, author of Crazy Rich Asians and Lies and Weddings Iranian-American multimillionaires Ali and Homa Milani have it all--a McMansion in the hills of Los Angeles, a microwaveable snack empire, and four spirited daughters. There's Violet, the big-hearted aspiring model; Roxanna, the chaotic influencer; Mina, the chronically-online overachiever; and the impressionable health fanatic Haylee. On the verge of landing their own reality TV show, the Milanis realize their deepest secrets are about to be dragged out into the open before the cameras even roll. Each of the Milanis--even their aloof Persian cat Pari--has something to hide, but the looming scrutiny of fame also threatens to bring the family closer than ever. Dramatic, biting yet full of heart, Tehrangeles is a tragicomic saga about high-functioning family dysfunction and the ever-present struggle to accept one's true self. Review Quotes Praise for Tehrangeles Named a Most Anticipated Book of the Year by TIME, Harper's Bazaar, W Magazine, The National, Nylon, Lit Hub, The Millions, Electric Literature, Seattle Times, and Library Journal "Like Little Women on an ayahuasca trip, Tehrangeles is delightfully twisted and heartfelt. If you set a TikTok mukbang at a Crazy Rich Persian wedding, you'd still have a long way to go to capture the extravagant eccentricities of the Milani sisters. Khakpour is a satirist extraordinaire who astutely captures the zeitgeist of a culture and a place where 'reality' is just something you livestream and truth is a billion times stranger than fiction. The antics and agonies of the Milani family had me googling pet psychics and turning the pages gleefully--at turns surprised and horrified, but always charmed and laughing so hard." --Kevin Kwan, author of Crazy Rich Asians and Lies and Weddings "Funny, devastating, and filled with dazzlingly accurate observations about the absurdities of our age, this is a story and family that will stay with you long after you finish. It's a giddy and gaudy life that the Milanis lead but underneath the bravado lies a tenderness that Khakpour reveals with playfulness and marvelous narrative style." --Marjan Kamali, author of The Stationery Shop "Like all great satires, Porochista Khakpour's Tehrangeles is both hilarious and heartfelt. With razor-sharp writing, Khakpour brings to life a family, a place, and a series of modern dilemmas that will leave you laughing, thinking, and wanting more." --Abdi Nazemian, author of Only This Beautiful Moment "Porochista Khakpour has lowkey written a hilarious book about a truly terrible time. Tehrangeles takes us inside the surreal world of the wealthy and beautiful Milani sisters, coming of age in an extraordinary time and posting it all--the good, the bad, the ridiculous--on social media." --Marcy Dermansky, author of Hurricane Girl "Fun and compulsive but with her signature dayglo insight on every page, Khakpour has recast the beach read in her own image." --Emma Forrest, author of Your Voice in My Head "With a sharp eye for the chaos and complexities of family life and a breezy, Babitzian wit, Porochista Khakpour's Tehrangeles brings us the unforgettable story of the Milani sisters. At once moving family drama, sparkling intergenerational comedy, and perfectly-tuned portrait of our modern, social-media-obsessed condition, Tehrangeles is an endless delight." --Matthew Specktor, author of Always Crashing in the Same Car "Fun, frothy, smart, biting, and hilarious--an utterly unique kind of pandemic story. Full of surprising twists, this tale of family dysfunction, sisterly angst, and self-discovery made me laugh, think, cringe, and laugh some more. Like the most skilled of reality stars, the Milanis grabbed my attention and I couldn't tear myself away!" --Deepa Varadarajan, author of Late Bloomers "A kind of hyperreal neon inversion of Little Women, if the March girls had to deal with hashtags, eating disorders, microaggressions, and group chats...Iranian and American cultures collide in a shower of glitter and tears in this sendup of the SoCal elite." --Kirkus "Wry...[Khakpour] provides a vibrant sense of place and an indelible family portrait. This has plenty of heart." --Publishers Weekly "[A] biting, clever tragicomic...Think: Reality TV, Los Angeles McMansions, and a fast food empire." --Nylon "Khakpour excels at the double edged coin of humor and tragedy." --Lit Hub "A literary phenom." --Seattle Times "Khakpour's wit has always been keen, and it's hard to imagine a writer better positioned to take the concept of Shahs of Sunset and make it literary." --The Millions Praise for Porochista Khakpour's Previous Books "Porochista Khakpour is a treasure." --Elif Batuman "The English language has a new master tickler and it is laughing out loud." --Gary Shteyngart "Khakpour [is] one of our best new satirists, partly because she is never as moving as when she is entirely sincere." --Alexander Chee About the Author POROCHISTA KHAKPOUR was born in Tehran and raised in the Greater Los Angeles area. She is the critically acclaimed author of two novels, a memoir, and a collection of essays. She lives in New York City with her beloved partner and her elderly blue poodle Cosmo.
