An enduring landmark in Saint Louis’s historical Benton Park neighborhood, the genteel Chatillon-DeMenil mansion pays graceful homage to the French heritage of the two families who built it and celebrates the elegant splendor of the Victorian era in which they lived. Eve illustration printed on a 125+ year old antique dictionary page. The illustration was created by Walter Crane c. 1899. I've cleaned it up and enhanced it digitally to really pop against the patina of the upcycled page. The set of dictionaries that I work with currently I found on the "Free To A Good Home" table at a local Friends of the Library sale. Published in 1897, this four volume leather bound set was very much out of date and in poor shape. Sadly, the books were destined for the ash heap of history (aka the local landfill.) I couldn't let them be destroyed and I hoped that others would love and appreciate their beauty as much as I did. Now the history of these books and the beautiful patina of their worn and well-loved pages add a timeless dimension to your new artwork. The dictionary page is from an antique dictionary of the English language printed in 1897. The actual printed page you will receive will be selected from the same set of antique dictionaries. Page size approximately 8x11 (20.32 cm x 27.94 cm) with slight variations. °•☆★•°∵ FRAMES NOT INCLUDED ∵°•★☆•° FLAT RATE SHIPPING: You pay shipping for just the first print; the rest of your prints ride along for free! The tableaux of his autochromes (a technology patented by the Lumière brothers in 1903 and the first colour photographic process developed on an industrial scale) are often bucolic and romantic. Demure ladies and … Continue reading "Alfonse Van Besten’s Dreamy Autochromes (1910-1915)"
