Beautiful plant that has a very structural, tree form. It is the perfect window sill plant! Aralias are a relatively small group of houseplants known for their beautiful and delicate leaves. They typically have woody stems and the lacy leaves will cluster into bushy groups at the end of branches. Aralias also have a more delicate nature, as their leaves require very high humidity and should avoid direct sun or dry heat. They like to be watered very thoroughly after becoming moderately dry, and may need pruning in the spring to help stimulate bushier growth.

We do not currently ship to Arizona or California Balfour Aralia Cane and all other sizes and shapes of Aralias are an ideal choice for a bright light interior plant. Aralias are a member of the Polyscias family and are often used in interior landscapes due to their attractive appearance and unique style. They come in all size pots ranging from a 4″ all the way up to 17″. Interiorscapers love them because they are one of the slower growing plants and tend to stay full and bushy while adding an upscale and exotic look to their environment. Aralias are native to South East Asia and the tropical islands of the Pacific. Surprisingly, they are related to the Ginseng plant and English Ivy. Balfour Aralias prefer temperatures in the 60’s and 70’s and prefer a well drained soil. Aralias grow in a wide variety of leaf forms and coloration. Common leaf forms are the familiar elegant, lacy leaves of the Ming aralia (aralia ming stump), the rounded leaflets of the chicken gizzard plants, those of the large, aptly named ‘dinner plate’ aralia and the tightly crinkled leaves of the black or ‘spinach leaf’ aralia. The really attractive aspects, however, are the massive woody trunks and sweeping, curving branches and heavy, dense and somewhat shaggy foliage of the specimen plants.

Bring the tropics indoors with the Balfour Aralia! This guide covers everything you need to know - from bright, indirect light to humidity tips - to cultivate thriving, vibrant foliage. Avoid leaf drop and yellowing, and keep your Aralia happy and healthy!
ARALIA PLANT FEATURES Beautiful aralias are easy-to-grow and have been popular indoor plants for more than a century. Prized for their finely cut, divided leaves, aralia varieties are ideal for adding softness and texture to indoor spaces. ARALIA GROWING INSTRUCTIONS Grow aralias in medium to bright light. They tolerate medium light, but will grow faster and lusher in a bright spot. Like other popular houseplants, they appreciate humidity; if you'd like to boost humidity, place your aralia on a tray of sand or pebbles and water; keep it near a small humidifier; or group it with other houseplants as they add moisture to the air as they breathe. Water aralias just enough to keep them from wilting. It's best to let the top inch or so of the potting mix dry before watering it again. That may be from a couple of times a week to once every two weeks, depending on the size of the plant, the size of the pot, and how much light it gets. If you're in doubt, it's better to keep aralias too dry than too wet. Aralias benefit from being repotted every couple of years; spring and summer are the best times, but you can repot an aralia any time of the year without harming this houseplant. When repotting, look for a container that's only a couple of inches wider than the previous pot, and be sure it has adequate drainage. Like most houseplants, aralias are not intended for human or animal consumption. All sales final. Please email with any care questions. Photos shown are just a representation of the plant, not necessarily the one that will be shipped. Please contact us within 48 hours of receipt if there are any problems with your order.
