South African designer Justin Plunkett’s “Con/struct” series has more in common with the digitally-fabricated renderings of speculative architecture than documentary photography, but it illustrates an eerie collision of both formats. The images are built from a combination of photography, 3D modeling and substantial post-production editing, to form street-level perspectives of futuristic urban fantasies.

Con/struct is the latest body of work from Cape Town-based artist, designer, and photographer Justin Plunkett who uses his own original photography to digitally construct fictional landscapes and structures. He shares via an artist statement: Con/Struct is an exploration into the themes of empowerment and imagination. Plunkett, using his own photography, has created new juxtaposed environments that encourage questioning and exploration: inviting the debate around how marketing- induced aspiration and perceived value can empower but can also corrupt, how it can be both perverse and create beauty. Günther Domenig: Steinhaus--Stonehouse -- Günther Domenig is known as a non-conformist in the Austrian architectural scene. Steinhaus--Stonehouse tells the story of the conception and construction of his home and studio within a remote mountain landscape. Steinhaus--Stonehouse tells the story of the conception and construction of a home cum studio cum intellectual haven for the architect in a landscape which has been part of his personal memory bank of images since childhood. Though the interest in this Folio lies undoubtedly in its description of a particular and highly personal creative process, the problems of response to site, landscape, image and memory which the architect confronts have a wider resonance. This Folio contains twenty-two plates of sketches, drawings and computer drawings by the architect plus an illustrated booklet which documents through an interview, photographs, poems and sketches, the particular context within which Domenig's work has grown and the story of the development of the Steinhaus project. Cutaway or cross-section drawings are mostly just fancy residues of a long-gone era when engineering and architecture visualisation was based on hand-drawn images that were often closer to art than boring illustration.
