Spanish artist Miguel Ángel Belinchón or “Belin” (previously) has long practiced photorealistic murals. It was in 2016 however, that his work began to mutate with the adoption of a cubist style, elongating his subjects’ necks and segmenting their faces in ways that would make Picasso himself proud. Despite the distorted facial features, many of his new works feature recognizable subjects. Belin’s paintings honor some of his great inspirations, displaying the likenesses of painters such as Frida Kahlo, Keith Haring, and Dali, alongside famous subjects such as the Mona Lisa. More

Based in Santa Catarina, Brazil, collage artist Marcelo Monreal's work is going viral for his different take on inner beauty. His latest works cut open the portraits of celebrities in Photoshop, super models and other faces of pop culture that are otherwise stagnant, to reveal beautiful blooms underneath. Monreal's use of floral motifs stems (no pun intended) from his first job as an artist, developing embroidery for a label factory. His imagery is in a similar vein to that of the spliced vintage photographs of Matthieu Bourel, covered here, and Rocío Montoya's manipulated, experimental photos. While his subjects are uniquely contemporary, Monreal shares the same sense of bizarre humor that combines the morbid with abstracted glamour.
Ever since Picasso and Braque's experimentation with pasted papers, collage art remains one of the most expressive creative mediums, here are 5 great examples.
In the 1940s, the poor alcoholic artist was saved by a rich heiress, Peggy Guggenheim. Now the pair are reunited in a knockout show that busts all the myths about America’s noblest savage
Roy Lichtenstein is one of my favorite artists. His work is bright, bold, graphic, and thought provoking. We were visiting Chicago a couple of years ago, and as luck would have it, we were there during an AMAZING Lichtenstein retrospective at the Art Institute of Chicago . (Side note: if y

His creativity comes to life every day, when Nathan stands by his easel once again, to express, through his art, his way of looking at the world. In every new painting he brings a new combination of color, harmony, and overflowing yet quiet energy, as well as intense textures that are also exquisitely balanced and refined.
Hungarian artist Benze produces intensely detailed ink drawings by fusing aspects of tattoo art and objects from the natural world, components the artist views as an important way to continuously open his work to new meanings and interpretations. The excruciating detail achieved through stippling and cross hatching with fine pens is stunning whether viewed in its entirety or zoomed in on various sections—simultaneously existing on a macro and micro level. “Each work has its own gravitational field which irresistibly forces us to zoom in, explore more, discover new aspects within the whole,” says Benze. Frantisek Kupka's pastels are exquisite paintings in their own right. They also show his way of working out ideas. Gail Sibley's shares some of them here.
Artist Russ Mills (previously) describes his chaotic, illustrated portraits as being ruled by the absurd. Bright bursts of color, paint splatters, and doodles scrawl across the canvas and surround single figures with a mishmash of markings. “I try to convey the ridiculousness of the world we all share in a way that only I really relate to,” he tells Colossal. Currently based near Brighton, Mills balances analog and digital techniques in his practice. More
