About The Artwork Drawing waves is recording my determination to balance with the center of life. Waves symbolize the huge hegemony of life that sweeps and attracts us, and replace people living in the present era, including myself, with certain objects, to construct the relationship between individuals and society in the picture. I also pay attention to the collective ideology that individuals expect and the confusion and instability of that ideology. Independent human beings are essentially concerned with the ideology, pressure, gaze, and at the same time, the two-sided community comfort that they have no choice but to rely on. It also reflects my desire to find my center and live freely among the waves in the ever-changing standards of right and wrong. I wanted to convey this story smoothly, so the way of expression also needed softer materials. The form of waves was taken from the traditional styles of East Asia, including Korea in the past, and gradually transformed into my own form of expression. Therefore, Seokchae, a pigment that matches the shape of the wave and has its own color, was selected as the main material. The background material was able to create a strong and cozy light by applying agglutination water on linen fabric and mixing pigments and dyes such as stone and bongchae. Philosophers who wanted to find the truth of the world relied on themselves, the last remaining friend and enemy, doubting all the obvious things. I can't always expect to live like a philosopher in a chaotic modern society, but I want to live across the waves at my own will rather than living rich between the waves. I hope such a story can be conveyed to the audience calmly through my paintings. About The Artwork Original Chinese Brush Painting by Ilana Shechter. This artwork is a spontaneous style of Chinese Ink Painting. One of the most beloved flowers in China, the plum blossom (méi-huā, 梅花) has been frequently depicted in Chinese paintings for centuries. Plum blossoms are both a symbol of winter and a harbinger of spring. Plum flowers are seen as an example of resilience and perseverance in the face of adversity. In this drawing, we see the clean, graphic lines of the brunches. The delicate shades of pink in the flower petals complimented them. The painting has two red traditional Chinese seals; one of them means "Happy," and the other is a seal that means "Love." This painting was hand-painted using traditional Chinese tools and materials: Chinese black ink and Chinese mineral paints on special rice Xuan paper.
