Hello my dear friends ! Today I am sharing few of my recent journal pages One is for Kawa i Nozyczki challenge blog. March This month subject was: 'my space', here is my journal page with my little world. Here is two other pages, enjoy ! Love, Marta xx
Hi everyone, sharing a layered textured page from my large dylusions journal today. Following on from a glorious autumn, the weather has turned blustery and we are probably not far off from some frosty weather. There are always patches of green around even in winter and I love a crisp morning where the frost has touched everything. I was reminded of this as the layers built up on my pages and a frosty green scene appeared, a white frosted bird and foliage just seemed a perfect touch alongside the sentiment. I used a leafy clarity stencil with colour blooms and then added further stamping and stenciling with coordinating fresco paints. Stencils with clear gel medium and a sprinkling of rock candy distress glitter gave dimension and added to the frosty feel. Book text and washi tape were also used in the background. Some stamping in black archival. The foliage is a memory box die which I scraped some puff paint on and added a sprinkle of white embossing powder before heating. Same treatment to the PaperArtsy bird diecut. A little shading and finally the sentiment stamped under the 'branch'. It's a little hard to see the subtle sparkle, but it's there. It's been lovely to have some fun creating and be able to enter this in the following fabulous challenges. Craft Stamper - Take It Make It challenge - take a stamp and Anything Goes for November. Mixed Media World - Anything Goes Try It On Tuesday - Create a Scene Mixed media Monthly Challenge- all about Texture As always, thanks so much for stopping by and hope it is peaceful wherever you are....

Today we're going to explore art journaling pages that incorporate a strong image from a magazine. I have to admit that this is a type of art journaling I rarely do. But it's wildly popular. And my favorite master of this technique is Teesha Moore. These are two of her intensely colored, doodled, and collaged masterpieces: Aren't they amazing!? Be sure to check out her blog. I'm hoping that I'll have the opportunity to take a class with her one of these days at her events ArtFest and/or JournalFest! Wouldn't that be awesome? There are many, many ways to approach...
Hello Everyone ~ It's been a busy Spring, so in trying to get it all done and enjoy everything, some things get bumped back and I'm sorry to say blogging is one of those things. On the other hand, one of the things I did not let go was creating art every day (or pretty close to every day... haha life happens). Not every day has to be hours in the art studio, although it is a favorite way to spend an afternoon. With things being busy, I've been concentrating the last few days on a small dylusions journal that is almost full. For the the pages that were not complete in that journal, they all had something on them as background starts... all from leftover inks and paints. When a journal is almost full, it's fun to get it completed. Fun for me, any way! LOL So here are recent pages in the small journal.... as you know, Dylusions stamps are some of my faves.... Above is dina wakley media paint and halves stencil for background. The figure is paint through an istencil. Above is all Dylusions except for the paw prints. Ink spray and stencils background. Above also all Dylusions except for the border is hand doodling. Above background is leftover Golden paints. White Dylusions alpha stamped with paint. ART is a stencil. Cat Lady is stamped from 3 different Dylusions stamp sets. Above is all Dylusions except the background stencil is a Stencil Girl design. Above background is leftover paint through various stencils. Head shape is by Stencil Girl and the leaves are Dylusions. Hand doodling for the border and journaling around the head. Above background is leftover paints through stencils and some ink spray blot offs. Large face is by Donna Downey called She Pauses. See it HERE. And 1 page in a large dylusions journal below.... All Dylsuions stencils with leftover black paint and ink and stamps w ith black ink. The flower is Dylusions stamp on a piece of gelli print paper. I just like art journaling! For various reasons. It's fun to play. It's fun to play with stamps and inks. It's cool to use stencils. Even the pages where I actually paint things from scratch is fun. I paint in the journals because I don't have wall space to hang canvases. Journals can be stacked up, but still out on a table or shelf. I'm very close to having 3 journals completed filled to add to the other ones already completed. I usually work in about 6 or so journals at a time. I think I probably have 10 going right now...LOL... some are dedicated to specific projects like Inspiration Wednesdays. Thanks for visiting! Have a creative day!!
2016 Topic 8: White Space Kasia Krzyminska Well hello everyone, Darcy here with a brand new topic for 2016. Easter is behind us and we are moving forward at a pace toward summer. Many people take this time to spring clean and declutter, and so this next topic is very fitting. White space is where a portion of the project is left plain, often totally unmarked. However this space does not need to be 'white' it can be any colour. The space though, should be clearly defined in its own right, it is, after all, part of the design. Often white space is called 'negative space' , and is the area left behind in relation to the focal image. But negative space done cleverly and with careful colour choices can become the more prominent of the two, when it forms an interesting or artistic shape, it does not simply have to be 'background'. Bronwen Vaughan-Evans Before we start, let's see who won the Topic 7: Resists Challenge... Oh lots of interesting resists from the past 2 weeks, pops of backgrounds showing through and a huge variety of techniques used. Relatively simple but so effective, I hope you will continue to use the techniques explored. The winner of Resists is .... Challenge entry number 7: Lesley from Crafty love and hugs, you can see her entry here where she uses a rub-on, Hot Picks stamps and Golden's tar gel combined with inks to create a lovely tag! Thanks Lesley, and congratulations on your win! Email Darcy to claim your prize. [email protected] When you think about it, negative space supports everything else. Where would our typing be without gaps and spaces between paragraphs. Without white space the text would be crammed together and difficult to read. Take a look at advertising, the more expensive items will have lots of negative space, it is the illusion of class and opulence... less is more, and indeed costs more. The same applies to music, when there is a pause, this can be referred to as negative space. It helps make sense of the main elements. The use of equal negative space, as a balance to positive space, in a composition is considered by many as good design. This basic, but often overlooked principle of design, gives the eye a "place to rest," increasing the appeal of a composition through subtle means. Brendarose I found this quote, which to me sums up the importance of white space perfectly. 'Look beyond the obvious to see what is left behind, and find beauty in that' {The Drake" by Dick Sproul} In ancient Japanese white space or negative space is know as 'Ma', this is the gap between two structural parts. It is best described as a consciousness of place, not in the sense of an enclosed three-dimensional entity, but rather the simultaneous awareness of form and non-form deriving from an intensification of vision. To put that in normal languague, 'ma' is how you interpret what is NOT there while also contemplating what IS there. 'Ma is not something that is created by compositional elements; it is the thing that takes place in the imagination of the human who experiences these element'. Hasegawa Tōhaku So that is the how and the why and a little history, so now let's look at some examples. You are all familiar with journal pages so we shall start there. I find it really difficult to leave white space, I always feel I have to fill the whole page with colour, but these are beautiful examples. San-T This page is striking in its simplicity. IYA This page by Mary Brack at first glance seems to have a lot going on, but the spaces suspend the focal images so serenely, it truly is a calming layout. Give your whole journal an air of tranquillity, begin with the front cover like this one from Kasia Minimal cards always look so elegant, these are often called CAS, clean and simple. Bianca This one from Heather shows perfectly that white space does not have to actually be white. You might think that white space can only apply to flat projects, in books or on cards. However even 3d items in home decor can have white/negative space elements. Kat Grieve This piece has natural beauty in the wood, a simple addition of the gold bird is all that is needed. No need for layers or embellishments. Ashley These tree bowls from Barry Guppy make perfect use of the negative space, it has become such an important art of this design. How about snuggling up under this beautiful quilt, the minimal use of colour really pops against the white background. Rachel Griffith Let's check out some larger pieces of art. Faces are particularly well suited to this technique, leaving areas that only suggest features. Anajarockz This one from Beverley Shiller could not be simpler, there is more white space than ink and yet you know exactly what this image is, it is truly amazing how the brain fills in the missing parts. I love this one, it really appealed to my penchant for recycling. The artwork is technically brilliant, but the background of ordinary cardboard adds so much, a lot more than you might think. Never overlook those PaperArtsy delivery boxes! Jason Ratliff In this piece from Megan Wells, the central are is unworked and is therefore the negative space, but in this case it is also the focal image by default as all the colour work is around it. This one by Kit Sunderland is similar, with the enhancement of the music paper as a background. Remember white space does not need to be white, or totally plain. A lot of you will have had a go at scrapbooking, did you manage to conquer the 'white space' treatment like these pages. Peppermint Such simple elegance, hardly anything there but still so effective. The white space draws you in and leads your eye to the focal image. Julie A final layout, again showing how well the negative space works to draw you to the main image, aside from that how gorgeous do those powders look against the black! Let's finish with a few fun and funky ones.. Hands up who remembers string art? JennMarie Can you see the legs, my brain is telling me they are there even though they are not! Susan Cutts Perhaps you would like to have a negative space manicure. i am a little baffled by this one, I sort of like it but I am not sure why lol ( I thought I had stumbled upon a one off, but no, this is a real thing, there are lots of negative manis out there) If all else fails you can always go for an 'inside out clock' Gilt I hope that has given you some ideas of how to make the most of your white-but not neccessarily white space. Have fun over the next 2 weeks. Don't forget to follow Leandra's pinterest page if this topic pushes your buttons, you will see plenty more examples to whet your appetite there! I am really looking forward to seeing what you create over the next 2 weeks! It's been lovely having mourning doves in the yard, lately...around here they're more likely to be in more suburban or rural areas. Being able to watch them so closely reminded me how similar they are to the extinct passenger pigeon. I recently found this rough sketch, left, on the back of an old bank deposit slip...I did research years ago for an article for Country Living Magazine, and drew on what I had with me!

Hello friends... Welcome to a brand new week over on the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge Blog and also, a brand new challenge! This ...
here's an easy way to create a journal page using a simple stencil that you already have, or one you've cut yourself! the first thing to do is trace your stencil shape onto your paper using a pencil. (i've used three different index cards that have a different size of rectangle cut out of each, and then i traced them into a grid-pattern on my page. you can use any size, shape or combination of different shapes, etc......the sky's the limit!) now take your stencil and move it around on top of a favorite image until you find something that's pleasing to your eye. (my image here is a page from a pottery barn catalog, but anything will work!) now draw the cropped image onto a corresponding shape on your paper. then use watercolor, acrylic, colored pencil, or whatever your favorite medium to add some color to your drawing. (i've used watercolor, and then added details with a micron pen). now just fill in all of your shapes using your image and your stencil, and you have a finished journal page! {this page in my pottery barn journal was completed using koi watercolors, watercolor pencils, waterbrush, micron pens, graphite pencil, and cut stencils}
a painting blog about art, inspiration, and technique
Hi everyone, It's Marta Lapkowska here. Firstly I wish to say thank you for having me here and giving me this wonderful opportunity to meet you all and create with fantastic PaperArtsy products. A few words about me ? From the bottom of my heart I am a creative mind. Since I remember I have loved art and crafts and had passion for innovative techniques. Spraying, painting, stamping and more! From cards and tags to layouts, mixed media canvases, journal pages and altered objects. I am mixed media girl that loves teaching people and share love for art. Abstract art is one on my favourite themes. There are no rules, no restrictions... you are free. Journaling works in the same order, there is no set paths, we have complete freedom of creating. I started my project by covering my page with four different colours of Fresco Finish paints Lilac, Spanish Mulberry, Mermaid and Beach Hut. I love using my fingers instead of brush, you have great colour control. To create some texture I used stencil and modeling paste with Fresco Finish paint China and Concrete. After drying my page I started stamping. I used Emma Godfrey's stamp EEG07. Circles are always great fun. This is definitely a must have stamp set. Lastly I played around with the circles by painting them with Fresco Finish paints to create some depth. I used white pen to doodle around the stamps. I also diluted paint with water and added some splashes to my page. Colours of Fresco Finish paints are amazing, rich and vibrant. You will love how the colours blend in together. Abstract art, circles especially are perfect for journaling beginners. I hope this page inspired you to create your own journal spread. Journaling is fantastic way let go, to explore the techniques and experiment. If you wish to meet me and attend my workshops in March in UK please follow my Social Media to stay tune for more details to come. Here is Art Workshops Facebook Page where you can find my classes. Feel free to watch my VIDEO tutorials here on my YouTube channel. You can also get in touch with my by Facebook, Blog, Instagram and Pinterest. Wishing you a great creative time, Marta x We would love you to join in with Challenge #21: Abstract Art. If you would like to join us in some abstract experimentation, then link what you make HERE. All links go in the draw to win a voucher to spend on products of your choice from the PaperArtsy online store. The Abstract link will close 17:00 (London Time) Sunday, Nov 22nd winner will be announced 2 hours later at 19:00.
