Anyone else think this month is going by disturbingly fast? The more I urge February to just slow the fuck down, the quicker it goes. It’s the end of my third week with no social media and I&…

Portrait of sisters Malvina Ann Louise and Hilda Sophie Charlotte Reventlow in the forest, Detail. by August Heinrich Schiott (1823-1895)
HIGH RESOLUTION. Full title: 'Take the Fair Face of Woman, and Gently Suspending, With Butterflies, Flowers, and Jewels Attending, Thus Your Fairy is Made of Most Beautiful Things' Sophie Anderson [French-British Pre-Raphaelite Painter, 1823-1903] Oil on canvas, circa1880 The title is purported to be from a poem by Charles Ede but I was unable to verify this or find any poem in which this phrase is included. ______ My scan and digital restoration ______ ______ 2017 Update: My image is now on Wikipedia (it is attributed to ARC, but their online image is different). In it's journey to Wikipedia it has been enlarged (though I actually have an image 50% larger than the one I uploaded). My image inadvertently has a depth and resonance not available in the original painting, because I had laminated my original image years before scanning which darkened and deepened the appearance.

Murals and paintings are my main focus but I also explore the fields of decor, artistic make-up and illustration. Through my art, I try to represent the energy of love that should flow in a society that sometimes leaves a sour taste in my mouth.

Here below is an interview we conducted with Sophie after she received news of her competition victory. Lisa: Can you tell us what inspired you in particular about the subject matter of your prize winning painting ‘Hidden Path’? Sophia: It was a moment from a walk in a small park near the house of my parents in the US. Actually it is hard to say a “park”, just a small lake and trees around. The atmosphere of this place was so totally different – just a couple of steps and you are surrounded by the mystery of nature. I’m always inspired by nature and trees especially, so it was no surprise for me that I wanted to paint this moment immediately. I made a tonal sketch to capture the ...
