Adam Lupton holds his Bachelors of Communication Design from Emily Carr University or Art and Design, having graduated in May 2010. As a Vancouverite, Lupton draws his interest from that which he has known his entire life: the vast austerity of the matrix through the city. Lupton’s broad and wide-ranging interests provides the root of his visually artistic ideation. Having a keen interest in sociology and psychology, he combines his passion for popular culture, typography, philosophy, science/religion, and society to form the basis of his descriptive works. Lupton’s gaze explores psychological and sociological struggles in modern society. Painting in oil, blurring lines between realism and expressionism helps Lupton probe the internal and external dialogue faced in his multi-directional narratives. His recent series, “What’s In Store for me in the Direction I Don’t Take?”, pits moments of choice against the visualization of their outcomes: temporal planes coexisting on a singular surface. With the notion of quantum mechanics having every possible outcome to a situation realized in splintered universes, he paints figures with varied levels of connection to reality. When every single direction exists in varying parallel lives, our process of free will as well as concepts of space, time, fate, and self come into question.
These beautifully complex portraits convey a sense of internal struggle in a very outward way. Vancouver-based artist Adam Lupton's series, What's in

Mandy Tsung is a figurative painter based in Vancouver, BC, Canada. Mandy explains her work by saying, “My work revolves around the female figure. Ever since I was a young girl, surrounded by literature, magazines, and comics which depicted captivating women, I’ve felt the desire to both emulate and override the imagery that informs my view of what it is to be a woman. As I become more aware of the world around me, I feel a responsibility to present the viewer with something new and, possibly, challenging. The characters in my paintings are meant to be emotive, to communicate personal stories that are open to interpretation by the viewer in whatever way speaks to them. My hope is that they will come away with a new understanding of themselves and the people around them.”

Osvaldo Ramirez Castillo immigrated to Canada at age 11. He is a graduate of The Ontario College of Art and Design (2001) and obtained his MFA degree at Concordia University in 2008. He has exhibited extensively across Canada and internationally in venues such as The International Print Centre in New York, The Southern Alberta Art Gallery, MAI (Montréal Arts interculturels), Sur Gallery in Toronto, The Mexic-Arte museum in Austin, USA and Casa de las Americas gallery in La Havana, Cuba among others. Osvaldo explains his work by saying, “Using drawing as a vehicle for storytelling, my ongoing body of work is a constant revision of historical, cultural and personal experience. The main concepts I revisit are issues of collective memory, historical trauma and cultural identity within a global context, explored through the possibilities of narrative. My work process is an intuitive construction of memory as a form of personal myth-making that casts political commentary, voices modes of resistance, and most recently speaks to a process of re- construction and healing. Originally from El Salvador, my drawn imagery deploys elements of pre-Columbian mythology, Salvadoran popular folklore and iconography sourced from historical and contemporary visual culture to revise and manipulate appropriated imagery into personal mythic narratives onto paper. In addition, I also situate the human body as a symbol and site for trauma in reference to personal and collective experiences of war and loss that marked El Salvador during the civil war years in the 1980\’s, – a time my family and I lived through, and as a result of which, emigrated to Canada. Over time however, the act of drawing has become a response to re- imagine memory as a place where myth and personal experience converge and reconcile.”

Amelia Alcock-White was born 1981 on Vancouver Island in British Columbia and studied at University of Vancouver Island and Emily Carr University. Alcock-White’s paintings express the human condition and its relation to nature, the transitory character of time and the contrasting endurance of elemental forces. Psychological themes, primal emotions and archetypal figures all play a role in her works. She fuses sentiment, intimacy and warmth with the enigmatic, giving her images an emotional subtlety that draws the viewer into her private world. Her paintings have been the subject of numerous solo and group exhibitions. Her work is represented in public and private collections in Canada and the United States.
