Here is a rare early 20th Century deadstock Liberty & Co hessian fabric panel with a beautiful Art Nouveau design to the surface featuring stylised flowers and trailing leaves in shades of green and pale orange. It retains its original paper label from the Liberty Fabrics Department, which was part of the prestigious Liberty store in Regent Street, London. This rare textile would look wonderful framed or it could be used as a pattern for an embroidered design or a cushion front. It measures 30" inches by 18" inches and is in excellent condition. Please note that the colour of the hessian looks lighter in the last two photos, this is due to changing natural light conditions during the photography session.

Pomegranate Table Square 1900-16 Deerfield Society of Blue and White Needlework Applique and embroidery on linen 15"x15 1/2" Fruit table linen in applique and Spachtel embriodery, c. 1908 17"x51". Anonymous This week's indulgence is Arts and Crafts textiles, courtesy of the book "American Arts and Crafts Textiles" No need to wax poetic as the images speak for themselves. The colors, and the use of linen thread on linen fabric is classic Arts and Crafts Movement . I particularly love the contrast in the Pomegranate Table Square of the dark branches in the center against the gold linen. And "Lotus Portieres"... what a wonderful idea to applique curtains. I switched from drawing to sewing last week and have nearly finished the applique pillows , so I have applique on my mind. This is the third post of Arts and Crafts Textiles for for me today. Hopefully I've gotten it out of my system for awhile... except, what about the embroidered gloves I saw in a book last week.... A gold brooch with a single opal. The brooch was designed by Archibald Knox for the jewellery range at Liberty & Co. of London. Archibald Knox designed this brooch in the early 1900s for the jewellery range of London based department store, Liberty & Co. Knox was an internationally celebrated artist and foremost designer of the art nouveau movement. His Island home strongly influenced his art and his career. In the 1890s he left the Isle of Man to teach in an art school in London, and this was when his association with Liberty & Co. began. The department store specialised in exclusive designs for an upmarket clientele, and Knox became one of their lead designers. His work for Liberty included designs for metalwork, ceramics, fabric patterns and wallpaper designs. Nearly all of his designs took inspiration from the unique culture and heritage of the Isle of Man.
