I can say I'm finally getting more comfortable creating ATC's. At first I was so intimidated ... how do I create something on a 2.5 x 3.5 piece of paper? I'm used to layouts and larger canvases! Yet, like everything,...
"Put the glue stick down, and step away from the paper" So, I just can't stop making paper "things". I'm not sure why. I do know that I have enough ephemera and paper bits that I could continue making those "things" every day for the rest of my life. What I really need to do is keep making new assemblage jewelry and listing it in my etsy shop. In fact, I need to list in ALL of my etsy shops. But the paper. It calls my name from across the room. Meanwhile, here is a small portion of my current paper obsession. ATC's Chunky Book 4x4 pages: I won't even show you the Art Tags and Altered Rolodex cards...

Vicky Alberto I created my February ATC with a project in mind this month. I wanted to adhere it to a cinnamon heart filled jar (a recycled Kraft jam jar was the perfect size). I decorated my ATC with a Dusty Attic French Flourish (DA0273), painted it with black Soot paint (DA0925) and then coated it with Clear Crackle Varnish (DA0900). This one-step crackle works beautifully and dries quickly too! I then added a cute little cupid and title. I simply glued the ATC to my jar for a perfect fit! Thanks for joining me on the blog today! Thank you for joining me on the blog today! Vicky Alberto http://simplypaperandcreativity.blogspot.ca Jennifer Hedger I have used a mixture of the mini Love Hearts and the Love Heart buttons on my ATC this month - along with the Dusty in colour Paints Robin Shakoor I am so excited that the ATC theme for this month is "Love." I decided to create an ATC using a mini canvas. I sprayed the canvas with glimmer mist and then added a vintage frame. Next, I painted my Morrocan Design (DA0838) chipboard using red and green acrylic paints. I added pearls using a pearl pen, then surrounded my chipboard piece with lovely vintage embellishments. I hope that you will join us and design an ATC of your own using our theme. Thanks so much for joining us today.

Used for an ATC swap where the main image needed to be stamped and colored by me. I used watercolor paints on her. Available for trade. September 2014.
Hey y’all, I wanted to let you know about this fun ATC swap. What’s an ATC? It’s an Artist Trading Card, they’re 2.5″ x 3.5″ in size, and sometimes made from ol…
Happy Valentine's Day!! Today we are having a special blog hop on the Sizzix blog where the DT members have used dies from Eileen Hull's brand new collection From the Heart, together with dies from her previous collections. There are prizes to be won on the Sizzix blog too and the team has done a wonderful job as always. Don't miss all the other projects, so much inspiration! If you follow my blog, you probably already know that I love Eileen's dies and all the things you can do with them. This time, I made an Artist Trading Card Box, filled with ATCs. I also used quite a few of other dies and lots of ink and stamps. Here's the finished project. The Artist Trading Card Box die is such a great die, I can think of lots of things to do with it. I kept changing my mind about what colours to use on this project, finally deciding on a pretty traditional love colour combo. I made a step-by-step tutorial for how I did this: The Artist Trading Card Box die is a movers & shapers die, so you can place other dies inside it and cut out a window. I used the label from Eileen's Heart & Label. Die cut the box from white mat board. Stamp the vines from the Hero Arts Friend Collage stamp set and clear emboss, on both sides of the box, just remember to turn the stamp around when you stamp the back of the box. Ink with Distress Inks and an ink blending tool. I used Antique Linen, Tattered Rose, Victorian Velvet, Barn Door, Fired Brick and Vintage Photo. The embossed image resists the ink. Mat board inks beautifully. Put a little bit of Picket Fence Distress Stain in a mini mister together with a small plastic bead (see this video by Tim Holtz for this fun technique). Shake and unscrew the mister. Tap the mister on your finger so that the ink splatters on your project. Dry with a heat gun, but be careful of burning the embossing powder. When dry, stamp with a love definition stamp and Fired Brick ink. Hold the stamp in your hand instead of mounting it on a cling block, for a more random impression. I stamped it twice before inking it again. Sentiments were stamped with Archival Jet Black ink on both sides and on the lid of the box. I glued a piece of mica behind the label window, if you don't have mica, you can use vellum or acetate instead. For a vintage look, stain the acetate with alcohol ink. Place adhesive on both flaps. I used Wonder Tape. Assemble the box, which is very easy since the die both cuts and scores the mat board. Time to make some flowers! Eileen has designed many flower dies, and it is fun to mix them with each other. I used the Wrapped Flower and cut a whole bunch of flowers from Core'dinations Kraft-Core, Tim Holtz tissue wrap, old book pages and dictionary page and tulle. I also die cut some flowers using the new Flower Layers w/Heart Petals die. The Kraft-Core flowers were sanded, inked and shaped a bit, the dictionary flowers were inked and crumbled and the book page flowers were just inked. I crumbled up the tissue wrap flowers too, but didn't ink them (forgot to include them on this photo). I used mainly Glossy Accents to assemble my flowers, starting from the flower centre and adding layer after layer, shaping the petals as I went a long. The last two layers are Heart Petal flowers and were glued to the rest with a hot glue gun, making sure some of the hot glue seeped up into the centre of the flower too. I made two flowers and had enough to make a third one too. First I planned to use the bigger one on the ATC box, but it looked a bit too big on the box, so I picked the smaller one to the left instead. It has a flower trimmings centre. The flowers were smeared with Distress Stickles Antique Linen. Die cut leaves, a banner and a key from white cardstock, using the Hearts & More Sizzlits set. Coat them with embossing ink and emboss with platinum embossing powder, melt and directly cover with a second layer of powder and heat again. Do one at a time and you'll have great little faux-metal embellishments. I did a heart too, from the same set of dies. Glue the leaves to the box with Glossy Accents and the flower with hot glue. I wanted the banner to just spell 'love' so I covered up everything except the heart with letter stickers. It was inked and glued over the label window. Here's a view of the box from the side. The back of the box. I found different quotes about love, and used them on my ATCs. Cut ATCs from smooth cream cardstock and stamp with Archival Jet Black ink. I used stamps from Tim Holtz, Darkroom Door and Artistic Outpost. Ink the images with Distress Inks. I used a marker on the tiniest areas (the alphabet), a craft nib for the slightly larger areas (such as the flowers, birds and number) and an ink-blending tool everywhere else. To add texture and bling, I applied Platinum Stickles and Crackle Accents on a few places on the cards. The quotes were printed on ledger paper and cut into strips. You might see that there is Crackle Accents on the flowers. The crinkle ribbon was dyed with Distress Stains Victorian Velvet and Barn Door. The lace trim was dyed with Antique Linen Distress Stain. There is Crackle Accents on the number and Platinum Stickles on the crown. The flower trim was dyed with Antique Linen. On this ATC I used an embossed key and a piece of twine. There is Platinum Stickles on the 'a'. I am fond of using quotes, and this project was perfect for that. Crackle Accents on the flowers and a pen nib pointing at the letter in the man's hand. I am finishing the post with this lovely qoute and two happy birds. These are the blogs you'll want to visit: Eileen Hull Amy Friend Anna-Karin Evaldsson (you are here!) Welcome to my blog where today we are celebrating Country View Crafts FIRST birthday in true traditional style and as is the custom for first anniversaries we are celebrating all things paper. I decided to sign up for 52 card pickup after seeing several friends making these fabulous playing cards in a wonderful journaling style – I wanted to learn more so these are my first attempts at them and they will be used for something special which you will see in my second inspirational piece for Paper Chase. This card uses music score script for the background and some Tim Holtz journaling tickets, tissue tape and chit-chat stickers. The background for this one uses the ATC sized papers from the Shabby Vintage set of papers, also the remnant runs and label letters. This one pleased me no end as I used an old AA map book of the British Isles for the background and I tore the heart from the music score paper which I distressed with paint and inks. This also included one of Tim’s stamps on the background as well. This last one again used an old vintage photo from the Lost and Found stack, tissue paper, tissue wrap and I think the heart was a punched one – I found it in my box of bits. Hope you like the style, I am hooked on these at the moment and will have some more to show you soon. I hope to see you over on the CVC challenge blog – have fun. hugs {brenda} x0x InLinkz.com

Hello and welcome friends! The team at A Tiny Craft (ATC) Challenge had a lovely holiday season and now it's time for the challenges to resume! This month, the theme is NBUS: never before used stuff! (Thank you, Darnell, for allowing us to use your moniker! It's all out of LOVE!) Simply use those new crafty goodies, and/or perhaps use something you had in your stash, but haven't used yet. Here's my offering: My new stuff is the floral stamps and the paper. I know one of the big trends right now is alcohol ink backgrounds, but I haven't jumped on that band wagon yet. I did the next best thing: I bought a paper pad in a rainbow of alcohol ink backgrounds! I ran the panels though a scripty embossing folder, then brayered white ink over the raised parts so they showed up a bit better. The flowers were heat embossed then painted using a water brush and Derwent Inktense blocks. A bit of ribbon and some of Tim's small talk stickers and these were done! Here are some close ups: I hope that you'll join us for our NBUS challenge and link up your ATC cards or coins at A Tiny Craft (ATC) Challenge. We'd love to see your creations! Thanks for visiting, I hope that you have a great day! I'd like to enter this at NBUS challenge #35 Supplies: Stamps: Altenew - Amazing You Ink: Versamark; ColorBox/Susan K. Weckesser - Snow DP: Reminisce - Got Ink? CS: Strathmore mixed media paper; Cardstock Warehouse Accessories: GC; Park Lane - Old Style EF; brayer; Tim Holtz - distressing tool, Small Talk Occasions stickers; May Arts ribbon; Inkadinkado - black EP; heat gun; Derwent Inktense Blocks; water brush; MISTI Adhesives: 3L - tape runner, 3D foam squares; Ranger - MMM; Recollections - red tacky tape; Scotch foam tape

2018 Topic 1: ATCs Mary Watkin Hi everyone, Darcy here to spend New Year's Eve with you. I hope you have all had a wonderful Christmas week with families and friends. Of course we have also had round up week, looking back over some of the incredible blog post inspiration from the past year. It has been lovely and relaxing to curl up with a blog post and a chocolate or two. I have recently been converted to gin and may have had several plum and vanilla mixes, they were especially lovely. So onto our first challenge of the year. As usual we change things up slightly each year, and so to kick off the year we will have a month long challenge. We are going to be sharing so much inspiration with you and so many new products that we need a month to fir it all in. We have also changed the prize for now, and will be giving away the much sought after PaperArtsy aprons to challenge winners. Barbara Yaya ATC's, I am sure you have all heard of them if not made some, but for those new to these mini pieces of art here is a little background information. ATC stands for Artist Trading Card, these have been around since the late 1990's, so they are a relatively young form of art. Though other forms of collectable cards have been around for over 120 yrs. A Swiss artist, M.Vänçi Stirnemann, was having a huge exhibition of his artworks which were all tiny pieces, the same size as baseball cards. At the end of the exhibition people were encouraged to swap their own art for one in the exhibition, this developed into a trading project. Anyone, from any walk of life, or skill level could take part. The most important part of the ATC project was that the cards were traded and not sold. Within a few weeks of this Swiss project ending other artists had set up more trading sessions in Canada, and from there it became a phenomenon that spread around the world. There are dedicated websites with galleries and forums just for chatting about ATCs. The flower cards below were all on the Illustrated ATCs website. Some people confuse ATCs with ACEOs, the latter stands for Art Cards, Editions and Originals, these cards can be sold, and that is the major difference between the two. One can be sold and the other should be freely traded. Besides being given away, there is a standard size for ATCS, that is 3.5 inches by 2.5 inches (64mm by 89mm). This is smaller than most playing card decks. Here is a great template that shows an easy way to get the maximum number of ATCs from one sheet of A4 card wwith very little wastage. Mirkwood Designs ATC's can be any theme, any colour, any medium, literally anything goes, however they tend to be fairly flat as they are often mailed out. It is also easier to store them if they are not too chunky. The following two cards both have embellishments but you can see they do not add too much bulk. An ATC does not need to be paper or card, it can be fabric, just adhere to the size guidelines. Quilting Arts This one has such fabulous textures and layers, fabric, stamping, embossing, old paper, what is not to love. Belinda Spencer Anything goes, what will be your chosen theme? I especially love the simplicity of this doodled flower with text. Arts for All These cards have such lovely blended qualities over the torn paper edges. If you like the distressed look then these are for you. These are done on playing cards, so not strictly ATCs, but there isn't much difference in size. Claudia Neubacher Some people like to round off the corners of their ATC's. Anne Kristine More mixed media, stamping and layering. I love the eye peeking out from the butterfly. Kelly Hoering Mostly artists will make a set of cards in one theme, they will keep one from the set and trade the rest. All traded cards should be numbered on the back, and should also have a title and the date and the artists name and contact details on the back. Magda Bolinksa A minimalist set now from our own Ellen Vargo, these could be traded as is or built upon. Ellen Vargo These ones are so yummy, the gorgeous colours that pop, the sniped paper feathers, the painty, corrugated texture in the background and the tiny words and number embellishments. April Marie Cole These birds are so bright and pretty, they were fussy cut from scrapbooking paper, the artist had added such interesting layers beneath them. Terhi Koskinen This set comes from a theme that is just 'yellow' , a lemon and a yellow frog are amongst others on her blog. Your theme does not need to be complicated, a simple colour is enough. Sally Rose Sally Rose This one really caught my eye, the image is a simple vintage photo, but how clever is the hinged, acetate door. Arte Banale A small paper clay heart adds subtle dimension to this set. Katja These great zendangles are simple but very effective, it is all about the variations in length and pops of colour. John Bloodworth This is possibly my favourite, because .. well just look at her, so weird lol Karen deWalt This set looks to have been influenced by zettilogy, what are your influences? do you have a favourite artist or song or book? any of these things could inspire a set. Illustrated ATCs.com These cards have been done in a Tim Holtz style, these really stood out as the stamping is so crisp and clear. when working on such a small scale it is important to keep stamping as clear as possible, always use the right ink for your surface. Redanne There was so much inspiration, but I couldn't pass by these wonderful creations. I love the humour in them. Rosie Schirrmeister Once you have your ATCS made you need somewhere to store them and to store your swaps, you can buy plastic pockets for trading cards and keep them in a binder, but there are some fab handmade storage ideas out there. Of course you can just pop them onto a book ring and hang them in your studio rather than hide them away. Stephanie Ackerman I do really like this box though , it is filled with small envelopes to hold the ATCs, this could be made to match your cards or to match the decor of your room. Anjuli Johnson I hope that has inspired you, I pinned so many cards, it was hard to choose. One sheet of A4 card will give you 10 ATC blanks, so pull out a sheet and get cracking. We would love to see what you make, and if you feel inspired why not swap your cards with other people. Don't forget to follow Darcy and Leandra's Pinterest boards if this topic pushes your buttons, you will see plenty more examples to whet your appetite there! I am really looking forward to seeing what you create over the next 2 weeks! ~ Darcy Our creative team love to read your comments so much, so please take time to let them know you've been inspired! You must complete step 1 AND 2 to be entered into the draw. To join our challenge: 1. Leave a comment on the Topic Introduction Post and go in the draw to win a PaperArtsy Apron. 2. Make something arty relevant to the topic, and link your creation from any social URL (eg. Instagram, Pinterest, Blog Post etc) sharing your original make to this challenge page. Hi all! I'm so happy and proud to be invited as a guest designer for one amazing challenge - Happy Little Stampers.I love all the inspirations on their blog and just how talented the ladies on the DT are. So for the May Mix Media Challenge the theme is "Shine" and you can participate with your sparkling projects as long as they have mix media techniques (stamps + ink, plus two other elements which add texture and/or dimension). For your inspiration I made a series of artist's trading cards which I brought at our annual "Cardsaddicted" meeting. I choose those lovely butterflies from the first stamp set that I ever bought and colored them with my Spectrum Noir Sparkle Pens. It's too bad that the camera couldn't catch the lovely shine on the wings. For the background I used several acrylic paints and stencils. And at the end I stamped some inspirational words. Simon Says: Stencil It CCM #163 Pearls or Gems CBD May Anything Goes!
