Aka little Venice. Aveiro got its nickname, as you can imagine from having a canal and “gondolas”, the local name for them is moliceiro, traditionally used to harvest seaweed. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ we were a bit skeptical that this little town would live up to its nickname but we were actually pleasantly surprised! The canal goes throughout the entire city and you can hop on and the moliceiro will take you where you need to go! Definitely worth a day trip if you’re staying in Porto for a little while.
Much is said about Aveiro's canals and their colourful boats called moliceiros, but what I find most captivating about the city is the huge variety of building designs — especially the ones with Art Nouveau styling, unusual roofs, and azulejos.
