Batik tulis is the most traditional form of batik in the country of Indonesia. It uses a technique called wax resist dyeing, and the entire process can take anywhere from 1 month to even a year. Due to the complex process and effort, batik tulis is the most expensive form of batik. The designs, motifs, and colors of the batik can depict the origin or region, societal status, and purpose of usage. The final product of the batik will always be different and cannot be made the same exact way. This type of batik is called Hokokai. Indonesian Hokokai batik emerged in the early to mid-1940s during the Japanese occupation. It took the name of the organization formed by the Japanese military government—Hokokai Java (Java Service Association). The main motifs of Hokokai batik are the flower patterns such as the dahlia, chrysanthemum, peony, sakura, and orchard. They are also decorated with butterflies. Some Hokokai batik may be a pagi/sore—cotton fabrics were scarce during the Japanese occupation, so the batik was split into two parts so that individuals could wear one side during the day and the other side during the night. The intricate details and designs for Hokokai batik makes it one of the most notable and beautiful art forms in Asia. Condition: New, Excellent Dimensions: 246 cm X 103 cm Care Instructions: Please hand wash or wipe fabric with cloth using natural soap or detergent. Do not dry batik directly under sunlight. Kebaya is a accepted blouse-dress aggregate for Indonesian females. The kebaya is additionally accustomed in some Asian countries like Malaysia, Burma, Singapore, Brunei, Thailand and Cambodia. It can be fabricated from arduous actual and beat with a sarong or batik kain panjang, or added acceptable alloyed apparel such as ikat, songket with a bright motif. During the nineteenth century, and above-mentioned to the Nationalist movement of the aboriginal 20th century, the archetypal of kebaya had enjoyed a aeon of actuality beat by Indonesian, Eurasian, and European women alike, with atomic appearance variations. In this time appropriate chic and class was important and produced variants of the basal set of clothes. Now we may acknowledge the avant-garde kebaya ( or in Indonesia alleged as archetypal kebaya modern) that may be fabricated of silk, clover and brocade. There are two capital kinds of the Indonesian acceptable clothing. The aboriginal one is accepted as baju kebaya and the added one is baju kurung. The baju kebaya may accept two accomplished forms: the semi-transparent straighter cut blouse of the Java or Bali and the added deeply tailored Sunda kebaya. The baju kurung is a loose-fitting, knee-length long-sleeved blouse beat in the added adherent Muslim areas- including above Kingdom of Johor-Riau (now Malaysia), Sumatra and genitalia of littoral Java.
BATIK of Javanese [Indonesian] origin is melted wax applied to cotton cloth. In Yogyakarta, I watched fascinated as traditional designs were traced with great skill and fluidity - wherever the wax seeps through, the dye does not penetrate. The cloth is dipped in dye several times then is submerged in a solvent that dissolves the wax. Traditional dyes are Black walnut, Bloodroot, Brazilin, Cochineal, Cudbear, Cutch, Fustic, Henna, Indigo, Madder, Saffron, Turmeric and Tyrian purple. Young noblemen from Solo and Yogyakarta, some of whom are wearing parang rusak designs [Photo: 1934] Some motifs denote rank and were exclusive to royal houses or sultanates, many patterns have been influenced by European or Japanese designs, the colours are ravishing – sometimes bright red, delicate pinks or blues. My favourites are the browns and dark blue patterns with flowers, leaves, sometimes butterflies – these have no equal. Batik began to be used for tailored garments in the 19th century, notably for pyjama trousers for European men, and less commonly, sleeping trousers for boys. These three pairs date from the early 20th century.
