A charming flowering deciduous shrub, Philadelphus Pearls of Perfume adorns its branches from top to bottom in clusters of large, pristine white flowers, beginning in late spring and continuing well into summer. Sweetly scented, the blooms fill the air with a captivating citrusy orange blossom fragrance, attracting bees and butterflies alike. Long-lasting in garden or vase, the fragrant flowers also make a stunning addition to floral arrangements. Known as mock orange or sweet mock orange, this Philadelphus hybrid is a small, well-branched shrub with an upright habit. It reaches a mature size of 3 to 4 feet in height and 2 feet in width. While it stands out as a specimen or the thriller in a container garden, its true beauty shines when grouped or massed in mixed beds, borders, or foundation plantings. Mock orange is easy to grow and requires little maintenance. It thrives in sunny to dappled sun locations with moist soils that are organically rich. However, its adaptable to a variety of soil types, including alkaline soils, loam, and compacted clay, provided they offer good drainage. The Philadelphus Pearls of Perfume is also disease resistant. While pruning isnt necessary, any desired shaping should be done post-flowering. Philadelphus Pearls of Perfume is a hybrid cross made in March of 2011 between an unpatented and unpatented proprietary plant from the inventors breeding program of Philadelphus x virginalis, accession no. G13598, (the female parent) and Philadelphus lewsii Snow Velvet (the unpatented male parent).
