Author(s): Beverly Lanzetta 156 Pages Religion + Beliefs, Spirituality Description About the Book * Highlights pioneers of global spirituality - Thomas Mergon, Thich Nhanh, Abraham Heschel, Mohandas Gandhi, Howard Thruman, Bede Griffiths, and Dorothy Day Book Synopsis Millions of Americans have adopted and adapted spiritualpractices and virtues from a variety of traditions. What are theylooking for? Theologian and retreat leader Beverly Lanzettabelieves that our contemporary world desperately seeks a sharedspiritual foundation adequate to meet our most pressing moral, religious, economic, and social issues. We need, she argues, aspiritual vocabulary to describe the unspoken, to interpret ourcommon humanity, and to articulate our earthly concerns in a wayrespectful and inclusive of all. Highlighting pioneers of global spirituality such as ThomasMerton, Thich Nhat Hanh, Abraham Heschel, Mohandas Gandhi, Howard Thurman, Bede Griffiths, and Dorothy Day, EmergingHeart shows how a variety of religious traditions emerge from and converge on a divine nature and mystic quality that creates a loving heart. Lanzetta first describes this phenomenon in her own experience and then elaborates on that mystical core, the notion of the divine, the new shape of interreligious dialogue, pioneers of this new global spirituality, and the personal, spiritual, and ethical challenges that it poses to us. This is a book of breathtaking insight and high moral ambition torestore our sense of human possibility and high purpose. Review Quotes "Emerging Heart is an immensely moving account of Lanzetta's own spiritual experience combined with probing reflections on the mystical heart of world faiths. An inspiring vision inviting to daring ventures."

"There is . . . drama and urgency in these dialogues." — The Bloomsbury Review Renowned theologian Matthew Fox "interviews" Thomas Aquinas in a provocative reevaluation of the thirteenth-century saint. Fox reveals a passionate, prophetic, and mystical celebrator of the blessings of creation. He speaks in a modern forum, questioning the saint about the Four Paths of Creation Spirituality. The responses are culled from Aquinas's works and include pieces never before translated into English. This edition features a foreword by biologist and author Rupert Sheldrake and an afterword by Benedictine monk Bede Griffiths. "This is an important book and will give much pleasure to those looking for deeper and richer philosophy." — New Humanity "Seizing Aquinas by scapular and capuche, Fox hauls him point by point through the fundamental issues of our day. The introduction is the finest thing on Aquinas I have ever read." — William Everson, author of The Integral Years and The Residual Years "Matthew Fox allows Aquinas to speak for himself, and at the same time the dialogue enables the relevance of what he says to come across with great clarity." — Rupert Sheldrake, author of Science Set Free "In this book, the teaching of Aquinas comes through with a fullness and an insight that has never been presented in English before, and that moreover is shown to have a vital message for the world today." — Bede Griffiths, author of A New Vision of Reality "The sheer joy of the shared commitment of Aquinas and Fox to creation spirituality is contagious and pervades almost every page of this big volume." —National Catholic Reporter creation spirituality; thomas aquinas; original blessing; cosmic mass; modern mystics;
