Giclee fine art print of a two-headed bird dragon ouroboros creature from the medieval Aberdeen Bestiary. 4x4 or 5x5 or 8x8 or 10x10 or 11x11 paper size. ***1/4 inch white borders are used for prints 5 inches and larger unless requested otherwise -- this means the image will be set 1/4 inch within the exact paper size listed above. Smaller prints (3.5x5, 4x4, 4x5, 4x6) will be sent without borders unless requested otherwise. See the last paragraph of this description for more available border options.*** Printed with a professional Giclee printer on Somerset Velvet 100% cotton rag fine art paper with archival pigment inks. These are fine art prints, not cheap posters -- produced with the highest quality inks, thick matte paper, and Giclee (museum quality) printing method. The image scans used are high resolution and printed at full quality. Although custom requests are welcome, please note that the print sizes are listed to the largest possible size for each image. Processing time before shipment is 1-3 business days. Shipping is USPS First-Class with tracking, and orders over $35 in the United States ship free. Shipping upgrades available in cart. Prints may be shipped either flat or rolled, depending on size. Rolled prints are packaged around the outside of a tube and then bubble-wrapped and placed inside a long box -- this is because the thick fine art paper cannot be rolled tightly enough to go inside the tubes without causing damage to the paper. To flatten rolled prints, they can be laid out under a stack of heavy books. Please note that since these are vintage images, they do not always conform exactly to the standard paper sizes -- this means some images will have a slightly larger white border on two sides to allow the image to fit with no cropping (the paper size stays the same, but if an image is more narrow or short than the closest standard paper size, the borders will be slightly larger on two sides). If you would like a particular image size, no border, or a larger border (1/2 inch or 1 inch), please send a request and most adjustments can be accommodated at no extra charge. If you would like a 1 inch external border, that can be done for no extra charge and increases the paper size by 2 inches each way (for example, an 8x10 image with 1 inch external borders will be printed on 10x12 paper). Please note the external border (making the paper larger) is only available as 1 inch, while the internal border (making the image smaller) is available as 1/4, 1/2, or 1 inch.
Russian Artist and Illustrator from Saint Petersburg, Irina Vinnik creates these Fantastic images based on old Mythological creatures from European History. In the Middle Ages a Collection, or Compendium, of creatures was called a "Bestiary" so that is why she has decided to name her Calendar in this way. The various moths are full of intricate drawings with complex detailing of the main figure. There is only one very small thing, in Roman numerals 4 or 14 are written as IV and XIV and not IIII and XIIII. The calendar is very ornate and stands out from the majority out there. As an added bonus it is a limited edition and can be bought on her online shop, get them while they last.

Chinese Antique Blue Glazed Porcelain Vase with a dragon encircling around the neck - Qing Dynasty The Dragon - symbol of life, growth and bringer of harmony, virtue, riches, fulfillment and longevity. In Eastern art, as far as mythical creatures go, the dragon still attracts the most attention. Most likely because it is revered for its courage, inspiration, creativity and luck. Every 12 years when the Year Of The Dragon comes around there is a spike in childbirths in Asia. Images of the dragon that are highly animated attract more luck, while the expressions of character are good

Beyond the borders of maps, where the limits of exploration fell to imagination, medieval artists and authors created monsters.

Gargoyle in Utrecht, The Netherlands by Bartiktom I am very pleased to see that we now have a big audience on this blog from The Netherlands. In honor of our friends from The Netherlands, I would like to post two great gargoyle photos from this area. I have to say they are the scariest gargoyles that I have ever seen. Paris has some pretty scary ones too but don't compare for the terror factor. If you are the owner of any of these photos, please contact me by comment and I will be sure to credit you. I did the best I could with the information found on the photos online. As my blog is a labor of love, not for money, I just would like credit on my photos wherever possible, nothing more, and hope to do the same. Gargoyle, Haarzuilens, Netherlands I was in Amsterdam at the end of a Rhine Cruise from Basel to Amersterdam. Great place, especially loved the museum area ... We stayed near the Van Gogh, which no American can properly pronounce. I highly recommend it. It was everything I had hoped for. More information on the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam can be found here.

Especially from the twentieth century the future generally has been represented by "robots" and "mechanical objects", based on a "physical understanding" of the world and any idea of the future world and features described in this configuration. Architecture and human living spaces are always a combination of giant metal structures and programmed dynamic mechanical parts.

These three creatures – dog, frog, and aardvark – from 1989 are part of a bestiary of projects through which I worked out a fairly literal interest in biomorphism. I can’t account for this interest nor – given that these projects were self-generated – do I think it particularly interesting to speculate on its origins. […]
