Finished the campfire piece today. Actually, I thought I had it finished yesterday. It looked like this: I don't know if you can see what I changed. The bottom foreground wasn't quite working for me. Those rocks around the fire looked too tight and somehow unnatural. And the ground itself wasn't "grounding." I added a couple more rocks and some deep shadow, which seem like an improvement to me. And then I added more sparks. Seemed like it needed those. This piece will be submitted for our next High Fiber Diet show, "The Elements." If I can get them done in time, I hope to complete all four elements to submit. I started with "fire" because it seemed the most challenging, but now I am having a hard time coming up with any ideas for earth, air and water! The size of this is 15" x 35". I kind of wish I had made it larger.

Handcrafted Indian textiles, steeped in tradition, are the living heritage of the glory of India. The decade spanning 1980-1990 witnessed a renaissance in the promotion and revival of techniques, some of which were in danger of becoming extinct. Warps and wefts underwent a transformation, with assorted weaves being combined to produce new from the old. The…

Harvard exhibition marks the 100th anniversary of the 20th century’s most influential school of art and design.
I created my first pattern ever in 2010 and it has changed my life forever. Before this happened, I was creating vector illustrations approximately once per week for my microstock online galleries, where they could be licensed. One day in 2010 I told my husband Alex that I really liked repeat pattern designs and wanted to make them in vector, but the technical process of creating them was very time-consuming and long. So Alex told me “Let’s figure it out together!” and we did!

Textile design from the Bianchini Ferier archive, Lyon, France, circa 1922 This is the Art Deco interpretation of à much loved early 18th c technique called Chiné à la branche. It was a technique for dyeing silk close to the ikat. It was an expensive way to dye textiles where the warp thread was bound and then was dyed in various colours- a pattern emerging and giving the fabric this slight blurry effect. The Art Deco period really looked back on techniques of the past finding ways to recreate them cheaper. gouache on paper with pencil marks- the design has been folded because it’s « working drawing » used to create a beautiful silk pattern.
