If you're looking for a show-stopping appetizer that will wow your guests, look no further than the Outback Steakhouse Bloomin Onion.
I LOVE handwork: hand piecing, hand quilting, needle turn applique, big stitch quilting, so it's no surprise that I designed the Bloomin' Quilt Series. The pattern will be delivered to your inbox on completion of purchase via SendOwl. Acrylic templates will be posted and you'll be provided tracking. Bloomin' Quilt Series patterns come with: Bloomin' Awesome: 54" × 63" and 72" × 72" Bloomin' Confection: 80" × 80" Colouring/planning sheet Quilting plan Video instructions for needle-turn applique and yo-yos Bloomin' Awesome came first and the name came from a dear friend Fi, when I asked her what I could call this design. After finishing Bloomin' Awesome I decided that not everyone wants to do as much applique or loves Liberty Tana Lawn as much as I do, so Bloomin' Confection was created. Both patterns have simple patchwork to really show off prints that you love, with the added bonus of some fun applique AND Bloomin' Awesome has yo-yos. You can purchase either of the Bloomin' patterns separately or buy them together as well as buy an acrylic template. The Bloomin' Quilt Series option is both patterns with the option for the acrylic template (x1 template). Bloomin' Awesome I really wanted to design a quilt that allowed me to use and showcase Liberty Tana Lawn fabrics from my stash. I have been collecting them for over 15 years and when the pandemic arrived decided I decided it was time to use the 'good' fabric. Both of the Bloomin' patterns let you show off your favourite prints and you absolutely do not have to use Liberty Tana Lawn to sew your own Bloomin' Awesome quilt. Dig out your favourite large scale prints for the plain print squares and use your small and mid-scale prints for the bloom applique. Bloomin' Confection Bloomin' Confection has some large patchwork areas to really show off large scale prints and your big-stitch hand quilting. Try using wovens and textured fabrics, like Essex Linen Speckle, Essex Linen Metallic and Ruby Star Society Warp and Weft for the 8" W x 8" H blocks. This is straightforward patchwork and the magic happens in the hand quilting and the different textures in your chosen fabrics. A note about needle-turn applique The applique of the Bloom can be simplified if you skip the centre and applique a centre circle. There is a link in the patterns with detailed videos for needle-turn applique instructions for this specific Bloom as well as a yo-yo making video. Both patterns have a suggested quilting outline included as well as a colouring sheet you can use to plan out your own quilts. Have fun with your Bloomin' quilt and mix up your prints. Please also share with me, you can email me or share on social media tagging #bloominawesomequilt #bloominconfectionquilt - I love to see how others interpret my designs.

Outback Steakhouse serves 40,000 Bloomin’ Onions every day — that’s about 62 million calories’ worth of the chain’s famous appetizer: a giant onion that’s cut to resemble a flower and deep-fried. Many readers, including Sue Rogers from Tomball, TX, wrote to us for the recipe, but only three people at the company know it, and none of them will give it up. So, chefs in Food Network Kitchens fried onions until they nailed the zesty coating — and the secret dipping sauce.
