Mars, Francis van Bossuit, c. 1680 - before 1692. h 44cm × w 14cm × d 11.4cm. Van Bossuit carved a large number of ivories for his most important patron, Petronella de la Court, wife of an Amsterdam merchant. His impressive figure of Mars formed the centerpiece in her cabinet of art, together with an ivory Venus that has not survived.
