Okay so I've been remiss--I haven't continued on my Desiderata road for a few weeks now...but I do have an excuse. I was invited to make some of my 3D mixed media pieces for a show called Paint The Town that took place last Saturday night here in KC. It was such a fun event! I made some new wire pieces and chatted with folks along with selling some of my pieces-here's a few of them: The Bookworm-made from an old dictionary, clay, dollhouse lamp, wood The Monkey Suit-glass cloche, wood, wire, metal, clay Forest For The Trees-wire, clay, fabric, metal, LED bulb, electric cord

GrrlScientist: Which science books would you most like to see under your Christmas tree, and which science books are ones that you are giving to others as holiday gifts this year?
Hello! Club Scrap Design Teamer Kay here :) Sticking with this week's Club Scrap Creates blog theme, here I am with a Dynamite Dozen of my own things that I like. I have to admit, I want to list several things my awesome co-workers have already. They have such good taste, so there may be some duplicates. Here it goes: 1. Miniature Stuff. Little bottles, tiny books, etc.... I seem to be drawn to tiny objects, so darn cute, they make me happy. 2. Club Scrap's White Pigment Ink. The reason is rather black and white...it's just so cool stamped onto black cardstock. 3. Heart with Wings. I have a necklace with a heart/wings charm, and I adore Club Scrap's From The Heart Wings Of Love stamp because it has that image on it. I'm glad my college roomates don't live in town because they probably would have talked me into a tattoo of it by now (LOL). I saw this wooden heart and wings piece (shown below) attached to a picture frame in the sale bin at a local craft store, I had to carefully cut and pry it off with a large knife (well, after buying it) so that I could paint and attach it to the lid of my altered book music box project. 4. Music Box Project. Speaking of that altered book music box project shown above, here is the inside. It's one of my favorite extra curricular projects. Still on a music box high from my retreat classes last year, I want to make even more! We still had the "Fur Elise" music mechanism in GHM, so it was fun to cut nooks into this old book and install the music box into it - one of my favorite altered creations. 5. Lunch or dinner outside at a local favorite restaurant. Once the weather gets nice enough in Wisconsin, I have to go enjoy the outdoor dining at Fratello's Riverside Restaurant. It's a cool old brick building on the Fox River that used to be a Vulcan Hydroelectric Power Plant waaaay back in its day. Anyway, they have couple of tables set up for outdoor dinning where I certainly like spending some time. 6. Soldered Charms. Here is the little collection I happen to have on my dresser. 7. Flower gardening. I go to the Farmer's Market when I can for veggies, so I have more space to grow flowers. Marilee snapped this pic of me picking dahlias in our yard. 8. Giving flowers from my garden. I used the dahlias just picked to hopefully brighten a friend's day. 9. Book Board. I certainly can't forget Book Board with all its infinite possibilities. It would be difficult to count how many project prototypes I've cut and made from Book Board. 10. Anything with a cool quote added to it. That gets me every time. 11. Graceful angel statues. 12. Any kind of project that I can incorporate family photos into! Of course, my favorites can change with the wind, but this concludes my dynamite dozen list for today! Hoping your day is filled with at least a dozen "things you like". Thanks for stopping by, Kay Williamson of Club Scrap
Crafts to make with old sheet music and paper, upcycled book crafts.
Well, it feels like I'm coming home! Thank you for being patient with me as I transition to a new business venture. I'm embarrassed to admit that I never knew how difficult it was to own one's own business...it is very difficult! Until May, I am still at school and this is one of my favorite times of the year because I get to decorate the school tree! I wanted to share our 2011 decorations with you. This is the tree from the foyer. As you walk through the front doors of the school, it's the first thing you see! This year's theme is music and we used silver and gold to carry our message. Our bow is gold and white mesh with a sheer white filler ribbon adorned with silver and golden polka dots. Ribbon for our topper and these beautiful ornaments are from guess who? Paul Michael's! All but eight of the ornaments were Dollar Tree and WM finds. We picked up some big musical notes for 5 cents a piece at Hudson's . The fans were made from old Christmas music. The two little Russell's are pleading with Santa not to overlook their wonderful behavior this year!! Each year a very special class at our school makes wonderful ornaments for our tree. We coordinate with them and this year they will be making angels for this tree. I decorated it like this until they put their ornaments on...we love these students and appreciate their making our library so special. Teachers and students purchase the ornaments and I must say we have all amassed quite a collection over the years. Now who do you suppose sings the sweetest Christmas melodies? Well, angels, of course! I must admit these were a labor of love...folding each page of a 250 page book takes about 3 hours...then there is the head, the hair, the halo, the wings! I hope you agree that they lend a nostalgic air to the setting. White lights twinkle from under the burlap background. Snowy pine and white feather boa adds softness. If you are interested, the angels are on sale at my shop, Dwellings..Re-Fined. They are $25. I hate to say it, but I don't think they will mail very well... :( Other little touches are our small library display table tree. Ornaments on curly willow branches... And gold mercury glass combined with silk magnolia wreaths. I have been asked every year, "Why do you go to such lengths to decorate the library?" Or, "Who has the time and why would you spend it that way?" May I be blunt? Each year somebody asks to have their picture made in front of the tree. Why do you think that is? For some it's fun to have their friends gather and the photo makes a nice remembrance...but for others, this IS their tree. We do it for everybody, but especially for them....they make my heart sing when they express appreciation or delight. Why? Why indeed! Once again, I've regained my footing and hope to post more often. For those who have stayed, thank you...I have really missed posting. Giving thanks for you,
these paper stars are fast and easy and make great ornaments! or, stick one on a package or in a card. i hope you can follow my instructions. if you have any questions, leave me a comment! these work best with a sturdy sort of paper, such as book pages or music sheets. i have made them with maps, which are really pretty, but they tend to come apart more easily. you can put a dab of glue to hold them together if you have this problem. origami paper would also be great. here goes! start with eight pieces of paper, 1 1/2" wide by 3" long. fold each piece in half lengthwise. *note: keep the prettiest side of your paper on the outside. now, with the folded edge on top and the open edge on the bottom, fold each end up at a right angle (the paper i used was very old and ripped a bit when i folded it, but that is the folded edge at the top, it just looks a little ripped!) fold each of these pieces in half. insert the points of one piece into the little pockets on the open edge of another piece. you will have something like this. continue inserting all of the other pieces into one another! square things up a bit as you go. when you have all eight pieces together, insert the first piece into the last! and VOILA!!! a lovely little star!
