Majshalm superkost med træskaft. Fremstillet i hånden i Spanien.
We have recently been sent the following, lovely post, from long-term Woodlorean Bosco Li. Bosco has successfully tried his hand at making a pair of beautiful Sami shoe bands, after seeing them on …
Most often, I seem to work in 2" widths, creating the guitar straps which are the main product that I sell. Consequently, many of the pattern drafts which I have previously shared are for 2" wide bands. Recently, I made some new products in 1" widths and had difficulty adjusting my designer's mind to this narrower width. I was using the same yarn but had only half as many threads to design with. Wow! At first I was frustrated, but then, after a few tries, I started creating designs which I really liked. I thought I'd share some of these with you here. Each pattern draft is shown below the photo. Consider the top row of the draft to be heddled warps and the bottom row to be open warps. If you use any of them, please send me a message with a photo as I really enjoy seeing how my designs inspire other band weavers. And if you like this post, please share it with others in your network on Facebook, Pinterest, Google+, etc. (Note: The yarn I'm using for these is Omega Sinfonia, a sport weight yarn which is slightly thicker than a #3 crochet cotton. If you use a finer yarn, your woven band will be narrower. Or, if you use a heavier weight yarn, your band will be wider than 1".)

Well, it turns out that there's much more to this book project than I realized. I'm very grateful to my friend and book designer, April Jouse, for helping me organize all of the information in a consistent and nice-looking format. It has required many re-do's and I would have given up many times, except that I really believe in the information that I have to share. The book will be fun to use because the 200 patterns which I've charted will be interactive. They were created using the Band Weaving Pattern Editor and each one comes with a link for you to use. Open it using the Pattern Editor and create your own version by changing colors, making it wider, making it narrower, etc. Or use it as it is. Save and print it for reference. I've added some sample patterns to this post. They will not be in the book, but will give you an idea of what to expect. Pattern Editor creator, Jeff Bigot, keeps adding new and exciting functions! Here's the link to the site: http://www.raktres.net/seizenn/loom_weaving_editor.html You can now chart pickup patterns in several different techniques. You can register as a user and save your patterns to a gallery, either your own private one, or a public one. See what others have created! AND you don't have to rely on internet service to use the tool. Download it to your computer! (Edit: See instructions at the end of this post.) If you find this to be as exciting as I do, please consider supporting Jeff''s efforts by leaving him a Tip! You can do that here: https://en.tipeee.com/raktres?utm_source=widget&utm_medium=tipbox&utm_campaign=Raktres If you need a little bit of help in figuring out how it works, consider watching this video or reading the PDF description here: https://aspinnerweaver.blogspot.com/2020/07/how-to-use-pattern-editor.html I made the following patterns this morning. Below each one is a link with it's short code. I've made this into a live link so that you can use it to pull up the pattern on the website. As you look at the pattern, the top two rows represent the warping diagram. Top row, heddled threads, bottom row unheddled threads. Below it is a drawdown, which shows you how the pattern will look when woven. Along the left side of the main pattern the warping diagram is shown again in a block format if that's easier for you to read. If you give the design a quarter turn to the right, the block draft will be across the page and you can read it left to right. Upper row, heddled threads, lower row unheddled threads. The white blocks in between the pattern threads are just space to allow you to see each thread in the pattern more easily. They are just space and don't represent warp threads. If you give this a try, please let me know what you think! www.Raktres.net/l/sQ www.Raktres.net/l/HP www.Raktres.net/l/Hb http://raktres.net/l/H6 http://raktres.net/l/Hh To download the program to your computer: with the web page open, right click at the top of the page. My book has been published by Schiffer publishing. Click HERE to see the book on Amazon. 'Narrow bands woven in colourful patterns are a centuries-old part of Baltic craft tradition. The double slotted heddle makes patterned band weaving quicker to learn and easier to do, and this is the first book that offers beginners instructions for using it. The craft doesn't involve bulky equipment―all you need can be stored in a shoe box! Learn how to weave these beautiful bands step by step, from the simple 5 pattern threads to the more complex 7 and 9 patterns. Colour photographs illustrate the instructions for learning to weave. More than 140 patterns are included, along with principles for planning your own unique designs for contemporary uses such as straps, belts, bracelets, and even handfasting bands. The breathtaking range of colourful bands woven in Sweden, Finland, Russia, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, and Norway are explored and offer additional inspiration.' These patterns can be woven on an inkle loom and there are instructions in the book and a YouTube video. Where to buy. Available on Amazon. This pattern was inspired by work done by Shelagh Lewins on a band from the Oseberg ship burial (buried in 834 CE). It's a simple threaded-in pattern and is woven by turning the tablets continuously forwards (or by turning the tablets continuously backwards to work out built up twist). It's reversible, so the pattern appears on both sides of the band and would make a great selvedge pattern as part of a larger band. This is an easy weave, as the tablet threadings produce the pattern so there's no need to make turning direction changes or keep count of numbers of turns. A perfect pattern to work on if you're new to tablet weaving.
