We love old maps. Their coloration, typography, legends, notations, and sometimes even outdated place names all have a nostalgic quality that gives them a special beauty. If you share our love for vintage maps, you’ll appreciate this 1912 North America USGS Map in our Historic Series. In remastering maps for this series, we go to great pains to clean them up, eliminating stains, stamps, handwriting, and other signs of map aging. We then rework them into easily frameable sizes and bring out the richness of their colors and details. Because we print them on fine archival paper and canvas, all their original beauty shines through. Browse our extensive collection of parks, cities, states, and more. It’s like traveling in a cartographic time machine.

Glen McLaughlin wandered into a London map shop in 1971 and discovered something strange. On a map from 1663 he noticed something he'd never seen before: California was floating like a big green carrot, untethered to the west coast of North America. He bought the map and hung it in his entryway, where it quickly became a conversation piece. It soon grew into an obsession. McLaughlin began to collect other maps showing California as an island.
