I just finished watching and wow...I would definitely say it is a must watch! . Lavern Cox, who was one of my favs from Orange is the New Black, was interviewed in the documentary but she was also the executive producer! Since seeing Lavern on OITNB, I have of course continued to follow her on insta--her smile is unmatchable and her Lavern dance videos (with a fan blowing back her gorgeous locks of course) always brings me a little joy! . . I learned about Lavern through OITNB. That role led her to be the first openly transgender actress to be nominated for a primetime acting Emmy! Along with this achievement she is also a three-time Emmy nominated actress, an Emmy-winning documentary film producer and an equal rights advocate. She has also appeared on the covers of Time, Cosmopolitan, Vogue and Essence magazines. Her message is to move beyond gender expectations to live more authentically. . . . . Watching the film Disclosure -- which again, I highly recommend -- I continue to be impressed by Lavern! Me - being a white, CIS female, I don’t have the experiences that these individuals have had. I didn’t understand their battles. I know that I will never fully understand but I also know that knowledge is key! I am so grateful for this documentary, along with others I have been recently educating myself with. They have provided views from the perspective of the minority in order to share the full picture. . Over the past few months, I have realized there are so many issues I need to be more knowledgeable about. I have recently learned so much about how the media has shaped the views of Americans, myself included, but these views are majority one sided. It is so important to highlight the stories that are told by those who are minority. To hear the story of a transgender woman through a trangender woman - that is why the documentary Disclosure is so informative and important. I’ll say it once more, I would 100% recommend this documentary to everyone! . I am sure that Lavern has been an inspiration to so many individuals! Before I get into it --my birthday along with Cassondra Justine Jewelry’s birthday is this week!! -- make sure to read to the end so you don’t miss the birthday surprise! Alright-- let’s get down to the Tucson deets! . Wow. What a TRIP! Going to Tucson this year was a whole different level of necessary! We have all been cooped up for way too long. When I realized that the Tucson Gem Show was postponed rather than cancelled I mentioned it to my mom. Of course she booked us a hotel room immediately. Haha - she was on it! Even though I was excited, I wasn’t sure if the trip would actually happen because I wanted to make sure I would be fully vaccinated in time in order to feel comfortable taking the trip -- and thank goodness I was able to get my second shot JUST IN TIME! It felt like a bit of a miracle! . When the time came my mom wanted to travel by car…... so let’s just say it was a very longgggggg drive. Lol. 20 hours to be exact. We made it to Tucson in 2 and a half days - if it were up to my mom we probably would have switched off and driven through the night and made it in one - I don't know where that lady gets her energy! . The first day that we arrived we went straight to one of the jewelry shows and I found some GEMS! I have mentioned before that I am super drawn to clear quartz and I thought that these stones were STUNNING. I loved the “S” shaped stones because they were so unique -- I knew I must have them-- let the spending begin! . . As much as I love going to gem shows it can be a bit overwhelming -- I am always afraid I am going to miss something because there are so many stones! I want to see it all! We stayed until the show closed that night and checked in at an adorable boutique hotel called the Tuxon. We had a great night hanging out and enjoying the adorable set up by the pool, it was a much needed relaxing night. . . The rest of the trip we went to show after show! If you’ve ever been to the Tucson Gem show then you know that there are tons of different tents and locations that are set up all around the city with different vendors and gems. The show this year was actually much smaller than years prior, regardless, it was still a lot to see! There weren’t quite as many people attending this year, which for me was actually a benefit. I was able to talk with more vendors and ask more questions which means...I BOUGHT MORE STONES! Lol. . . . . . . . Since being cooped up for such a long time I have been craving happy and bright colors! I have really enjoyed incorporating more color and playfulness into my wardrobe and makeup and I plan to do the same in my jewelry-- so if you notice a lot more color in my stone choices that is no accident! It was such a great time, and I really loved attending this show again with my mom. To be honest, even my jewelry friends aren’t as entertained at the gem shows as my mom is! That must be where I get it from! While on our Tucson trip we also were able to eat at several really great spots, check out the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum, and stop at some of the gorgeous national parks on the drive there and back. It was an unforgettable experience and I look forward to next year attending again with my mother and gem loving companion! . . . . . . . . . . Since I was able to gather so many incredible stones that will soon become jewels I wanted to kick off the month of May ( My birthday month!) with an awesome sale this weekend! . Hello there my fellow jewelry lovers! . Today we are diving into the world of jewelry upkeep, more specifically, sterling silver jewelry upkeep – a favorite of many. We all love it for its affordability, versatility, and endless style options. However, silver jewelry is also notorious for tarnishing, which can be pretty frustrating. But don't worry, there are ways to prevent it from happening! . So, first things first, why does sterling silver tarnish? Well, it’s all due to the fact that sterling silver is composed of 92.5% pure silver and 7.5% other metals, usually copper. The copper content is what causes the tarnish. When the sterling silver comes into contact with air, moisture, and certain chemicals, a reaction occurs between the copper and the environment which creates a dark film on the surface of the silver. . But–fear not! Tarnishing is completely normal and can be easily remedied with the right care and maintenance. Here are some tips on how to safely clean and store your sterling silver jewelry: . Tip 1: Cleaning your silver jewelry . . There are several methods to safely clean your silver jewelry, but one of the easiest – and definitely the safest – is to use a mild soap and warm water. Mix a small amount of gentle soap with warm water and soak your jewelry for a few minutes. Then, use a soft-bristled brush (I use an old soft bristled toothbrush) to gently clean the silver. Be sure to rinse the jewelry thoroughly with clean water and dry it completely with a soft cloth. . Another option is to use a silver polishing cloth. These cloths are specially designed to remove tarnish and restore shine to silver jewelry. Simply rub the cloth on the jewelry until it’s clean and shiny! It’s like magic before your eyes! Tip 2: Storing your silver jewelry properly . To prevent your sterling silver jewelry from tarnishing, it’s important to store it properly. Here are a few tips: . Store your silver jewelry in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and heat: Exposure to heat and sunlight can cause your silver jewelry to tarnish more quickly. Therefore, it's important to store your jewelry in a cool, dry place, away from windows, radiators, or other sources of heat. Ideally, you should also avoid storing your jewelry in a damp or humid environment such as a bathroom, as this can cause tarnishing as well. Keep your jewelry in an airtight container or a ziplock bag: Exposure to air and moisture can also contribute to tarnishing on your silver jewelry. To prevent this, you can store your jewelry in an airtight container, such as a jewelry box, or a ziplock bag. This will help minimize the amount of air and moisture that comes into contact with your jewelry, which can slow down the tarnishing process. . . Add a piece of chalk or a silica gel packet to the storage container: Chalk and silica gel packets are both great options for absorbing excess moisture in your jewelry storage container. Chalk is a natural absorbent and can help prevent moisture from building up in the container. Silica gel packets, on the other hand, are designed specifically for this purpose and are often found in shoeboxes, purses, and other products to absorb moisture (you know those little packets that are in nearly everything you purchase and you’re like what is this for?? We finally know!). Simply add a piece of chalk or a silica gel packet to your jewelry storage container to help keep your silver jewelry dry and prevent tarnishing. . . Tip 3: Preventing tarnishing To prevent your sterling silver jewelry from tarnishing, there are a few things you can do: Remove your jewelry before swimming or showering (I know this is an annoying one, and I have to say I don’t do this myself…but I should…lol) Chlorine and other chemicals found in pools and hot tubs can cause tarnishing on your silver jewelry. Additionally, showering with your jewelry on can cause buildup of soap and shampoo residue, which can also contribute to tarnishing over time. To avoid this, simply take off your jewelry before you go for a swim or hop in the shower... Apply lotion, perfume, and hairspray before putting on your silver jewelry. These products can contain harsh chemicals that can react with your silver jewelry and cause it to tarnish more quickly. By applying these products before putting on your jewelry, you can minimize the amount of exposure your jewelry has to these chemicals. It will also help if you allow the products to fully dry before putting on your jewelry to further minimize contact. Wear your jewelry often– this seems counterintuitive, I know! But, the natural oils in your skin can help prevent tarnishing on your silver jewelry. When you wear your jewelry, the oils from your skin create a barrier between the metal and the air, helping to slow down the tarnishing process. So don't be afraid to wear your silver jewelry often! Just be sure to clean and store it properly when you're not wearing it to help maintain its shine. . So, we know that sterling silver may tarnish, but with the right care and maintenance, your jewelry can stay shiny and beautiful for years to come! So, go ahead and wear that silver necklace or bracelet with confidence – just remember to give it a little TLC every now and then and it will be good as new! . Alright-- let’s get down to the Tucson deets! . Wow. What a TRIP! Going to Tucson this year was a whole different level of necessary! We have all been cooped up for way too long. When I realized that the Tucson Gem Show was postponed rather than cancelled I mentioned it to my mom. Of course she booked us a hotel room immediately. Haha - she was on it! Even though I was excited, I wasn’t sure if the trip would actually happen because I wanted to make sure I would be fully vaccinated in time in order to feel comfortable taking the trip -- and thank goodness I was able to get my second shot JUST IN TIME! It felt like a bit of a miracle! . When the time came my mom wanted to travel by car…... so let’s just say it was a very longgggggg drive. Lol. 20 hours to be exact. We made it to Tucson in 2 and a half days - if it were up to my mom we probably would have switched off and driven through the night and made it in one - I don't know where that lady gets her energy! . The first day that we arrived we went straight to one of the jewelry shows and I found some GEMS! I have mentioned before that I am super drawn to clear quartz and I thought that these stones were STUNNING. I loved the “S” shaped stones because they were so unique -- I knew I must have them-- let the spending begin! . . As much as I love going to gem shows it can be a bit overwhelming -- I am always afraid I am going to miss something because there are so many stones! I want to see it all! We stayed until the show closed that night and checked in at an adorable boutique hotel called the Tuxon. We had a great night hanging out and enjoying the adorable set up by the pool, it was a much needed relaxing night. . . The rest of the trip we went to show after show! If you’ve ever been to the Tucson Gem show then you know that there are tons of different tents and locations that are set up all around the city with different vendors and gems. The show this year was actually much smaller than years prior, regardless, it was still a lot to see! There weren’t quite as many people attending this year, which for me was actually a benefit. I was able to talk with more vendors and ask more questions which means...I BOUGHT MORE STONES! Lol. . . . . . . . Since being cooped up for such a long time I have been craving happy and bright colors! I have really enjoyed incorporating more color and playfulness into my wardrobe and makeup and I plan to do the same in my jewelry-- so if you notice a lot more color in my stone choices that is no accident! Before I get into talking about these super talented ladies for Woman Crush Wednesday, I have to share a super embarrassing story about myself... . Alright, story time.... . About a year or so ago, I was flying from Los Angeles to New York on the redeye for NYC Jewelry Week. One of my coworkers had mentioned to me that she always sees celebrities on similar flights so I am on the lookout! . We are about to begin boarding the plan, no celebs in sight, oh well. At the last second, I see a girl who looks super familiar. (I always think I see people I know, I never ACTUALLY know them...it can be pretty awkward at times...) But, this girl I was sure I recognized then, I realized, wait, OMG that's Chloe and Halle! Whattttt?? . They are getting on my flight---woahhhh so cool! Of course I continue scrolling to see more of what I already know -- 'Wow, These girls are so talented!' . I try to get a little rest on the plane since it's a redeye (nearly impossible). . I know that this topic won’t be for everyone...but it is something I have been thinking about alot lately... . You know when you’re taught something for the first time, or come across a new product and then it seems like you find it/see it/hear about it everywhere you look? That’s how I feel about this topic and since it’s been on my mind so much I want to share it with you. . Let’s get into it, Manifestation. I know this topic can definitely be a hit or miss for some -- and maybe even a little hippy-ish, hokey or as Jenna Kutcher says “woo-woo”. I get it. I’ve been there. I definitely thought that at one point and time. But -- the more I learn about it, the more I want to know and the more I want to try to put it into practice myself. . First of all -- what is manifestation?? Simply put - it means to turn an idea into reality. To think something into existence. I personally believe that the more often you are thinking about something, the more often that subject is top of mind and the more likely you are to see pathways to get you to that end goal. . I am not claiming to be an expert at this, but I think there are definitely some things that I have manifested into existence. For example, my job right out of college, the current car I am driving, and my move from NY to California. These were all things that not only I thought about constantly, but then took action or saw opportunities to make them into reality! . Why am I talking about manifestation?? I believe that there is a lot of power in our thoughts -- and honestly, I wish I would have known sooner how much my thoughts could impact the outcome of my life. Before I get into it --my birthday along with Cassondra Justine Jewelry’s birthday is this week!! -- make sure to read to the end so you don’t miss the birthday surprise! Alright-- let’s get down to the Tucson deets! . Wow. What a TRIP! Going to Tucson this year was a whole different level of necessary! We have all been cooped up for way too long. When I realized that the Tucson Gem Show was postponed rather than cancelled I mentioned it to my mom. Of course she booked us a hotel room immediately. Haha - she was on it! Even though I was excited, I wasn’t sure if the trip would actually happen because I wanted to make sure I would be fully vaccinated in time in order to feel comfortable taking the trip -- and thank goodness I was able to get my second shot JUST IN TIME! It felt like a bit of a miracle! . When the time came my mom wanted to travel by car…... so let’s just say it was a very longgggggg drive. Lol. 20 hours to be exact. We made it to Tucson in 2 and a half days - if it were up to my mom we probably would have switched off and driven through the night and made it in one - I don't know where that lady gets her energy! . The first day that we arrived we went straight to one of the jewelry shows and I found some GEMS! I have mentioned before that I am super drawn to clear quartz and I thought that these stones were STUNNING. I loved the “S” shaped stones because they were so unique -- I knew I must have them-- let the spending begin! . . As much as I love going to gem shows it can be a bit overwhelming -- I am always afraid I am going to miss something because there are so many stones! I want to see it all! We stayed until the show closed that night and checked in at an adorable boutique hotel called the Tuxon. We had a great night hanging out and enjoying the adorable set up by the pool, it was a much needed relaxing night. . . The rest of the trip we went to show after show! If you’ve ever been to the Tucson Gem show then you know that there are tons of different tents and locations that are set up all around the city with different vendors and gems. The show this year was actually much smaller than years prior, regardless, it was still a lot to see! There weren’t quite as many people attending this year, which for me was actually a benefit. I was able to talk with more vendors and ask more questions which means...I BOUGHT MORE STONES! Lol. . . . . . . . Since being cooped up for such a long time I have been craving happy and bright colors! I have really enjoyed incorporating more color and playfulness into my wardrobe and makeup and I plan to do the same in my jewelry-- so if you notice a lot more color in my stone choices that is no accident! The Tucson Gem Show is always one of my favorites and I would definitely encourage anyone who is interested to attend a show -- it is pretty mindblowing to see so many gorgeous stones and so many of the shows are free and open to the public! One of my favorite shows is the Pueblo Gem and Mineral show because it has tons of giant, mind blowing stones! . . . . . It was such a great time, and I really loved attending this show again with my mom. To be honest, even my jewelry friends aren’t as entertained at the gem shows as my mom is! That must be where I get it from! While on our Tucson trip we also were able to eat at several really great spots, check out the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum, and stop at some of the gorgeous national parks on the drive there and back. It was an unforgettable experience and I look forward to next year attending again with my mother and gem loving companion! . . . . . . . . . . Since I was able to gather so many incredible stones that will soon become jewels I wanted to kick off the month of May ( My birthday month!) with an awesome sale this weekend! Artwork by @thoughtandcolor . I have been hearing a lot of buzz about the recently released documentary Disclosure on Netflix…..have you watched it yet?? I just finished watching and wow...I would definitely say it is a must watch! . Lavern Cox, who was one of my favs from Orange is the New Black, was interviewed in the documentary but she was also the executive producer! Since seeing Lavern on OITNB, I have of course continued to follow her on insta--her smile is unmatchable and her Lavern dance videos (with a fan blowing back her gorgeous locks of course) always brings me a little joy! . . I learned about Lavern through OITNB. That role led her to be the first openly transgender actress to be nominated for a primetime acting Emmy! Along with this achievement she is also a three-time Emmy nominated actress, an Emmy-winning documentary film producer and an equal rights advocate. She has also appeared on the covers of Time, Cosmopolitan, Vogue and Essence magazines. Her message is to move beyond gender expectations to live more authentically. . . . . Watching the film Disclosure -- which again, I highly recommend -- I continue to be impressed by Lavern! Me - being a white, CIS female, I don’t have the experiences that these individuals have had. I didn’t understand their battles. I know that I will never fully understand but I also know that knowledge is key! I am so grateful for this documentary, along with others I have been recently educating myself with. They have provided views from the perspective of the minority in order to share the full picture. . Over the past few months, I have realized there are so many issues I need to be more knowledgeable about. I have recently learned so much about how the media has shaped the views of Americans, myself included, but these views are majority one sided. It is so important to highlight the stories that are told by those who are minority. To hear the story of a transgender woman through a trangender woman - that is why the documentary Disclosure is so informative and important. I’ll say it once more, I would 100% recommend this documentary to everyone! . I am sure that Lavern has been an inspiration to so many individuals! I think it is so powerful the journey she has been through and has continued to persevere and see success. Let us continue to applaud her journey while encouraging the world to be more inclusive! . Last year, 91 percent of the transgender or gender-nonconforming people who were fatally shot were black women, according to the Human Rights Campaign. This year, at least 16 trans people have been killed — almost certainly an underestimate, because many cases go unreported and many victims are misgendered.
