English Using Reflexive Pronouns, Definition and Example Sentences; Reflexive Pronouns One of the simplest but most confused topics in English is ‘Reflexive Pronouns’. Because these words are equivalent to other languages, they are different from other languages in use. In this lesson, we will examine this important issue in depth and explain it in full detail. We will also touch on the most common mistakes students make and the causes of these mistakes. What is a Pronoun? Types of Pronouns and Examples After carefully studying this lesson, you will not make these mistakes and you will realize the correct ones

I'm told quite often by a coworker and friend that I "use weird words". Last night we were texting and I used the word "malarkey" and she again said "you use the weirdest words!" and so today's post was born! I made a short list of words I use occasionally or want to use more often and then asked my parents and a few other friends for some input. For the record, I don't think I "use weird words". I do think that because I read a lot and even because I watch TV and movies a lot and because my parents are the same way, I have an expanded vocabulary. My mom especially uses words that in high school I would pretend I knew and then look up later, which means now I know those words. My mom reads a lot too. I come by it naturally. Here are 15 words that you need to be using more often. And I'll leave you with one of my favorites clips from my favorite movie.
Recently my class worked on learning the organelles that make up a plant cell. I created an anchor chart and a student activity for the occasion. The student activity is free and can be found here. First off, I printed out the colored version of the anchor chart parts. I laminated them so I wouldn't have to recreate the wheel, so to speak, when I teach the same unit next year. You could also print out the black and white version and either color them yourself, or what I like to do, is break my class into groups and assign each group an organelle. They color the organelle, name tag and function tag all the same color. I use laminated poster boards for my anchor charts. I have several of them. They allow me to add the pieces and then pull them back off when I'm finished with the unit to use another day or another year. I don't have the cool sticky paper for my anchor charts, but that would work too. I like to involve my students in putting the chart together. I give students the pieces and they listen for me to call for their piece. When it's their turn, they come up and add it to the chart. In the end, we end up with a completed plant cell that tells the name and function of the ten organelles we are learning about. After I build the chart up front (or sometimes while I am building), my students build one of their own. They color the picture, name tag and function tag all the same color. For the little pieces or the pieces with crazy edges, I have them color around the organelles with the color of the cytoplasm. That way they can cut out a block rather than tiny or crazy pieces. Theirs looks just like mine, only smaller. They end up with a copy of the anchor chart that they can use for reference or to review before a test. It's also great for teachers who help their students build yearly portfolios. It's neat to be able to look back on all the concepts they've tackled in a nice, neat notebook. The student version, Let's Build: A Plant Cell, is available here for free. The anchor chart version, Let's Build: A Plant Cell Anchor Chart, is available here.

Teach your child to tackle anxiety and stress with our ultimate guide to anxiety in children. Stop feeling helpless as a parent with these detailed 12 steps!
Do you want to give your children a truly BEAUTIFUL music education, but don't know where to start? The SQUILT LIVE! community is a vibrant group of children and parents who are learning tremendous amounts about composers, music history, music theory, instruments, the grammar of music, and MUCH more. It is a community where children as young as 3 and as old as 16 are learning side by side about timeless pieces of music. (Many of their parents are reclaiming their own music educations by participating in the lessons, too.) It is an online opportunity where children can receive live lessons, participate in a myriad of recorded lessons, access monthly lesson calendars, and have an expert music educator at their disposal. Unless you are a member of SQUILT LIVE!, it's hard to describe the tremendous value of this type of music education - so today I wanted you to hear from one of our parents. This email arrived shortly after a month of our studying Claude Debussy and his Children's Corner suite in SQUILT LIVE! This mother perfectly captures the heart and spirit of what SQUILT LIVE! is all about. Note: Text in parentheses is a note from me about the lesson. All other words are from this lovely mom. Louis and Marion are some of our younger members, but this goes to show you that our youngest ones are capable of SO MUCH! SQUILT LIVE! - A Parent Testimonial Louis and Marion are just 6.5 years old and they (and mom!) love music with Miss Mary. This week’s Debussy lesson inspired some musical note sea creatures and someone was really making an effort to follow those musical terms. By the end, we had some treble clef-inspired snails moving across the page and a grand piano! (In this lesson our goal was to learn about how Debussy had been inspired by the Classical era composer, Clementi, when he wrote his piece Dr. Gradus ad Parnassum. We talked about similarities and differences between the two pieces.) We aren’t using the pages entirely as intended yet, but they follow along with the correct pages and I let them draw as they like. They get a little upset if I skip printing any pages, because they really want to follow along with Miss Mary. So, they get a full printout in a special folder. (I encourage parents and children to strive for whatever they can do - some things the littles will understand, others they will understand later. The key is EXPOSURE. The older children will benefit from every part of the lesson. Each lesson has a detailed lesson packet with activities for older and younger children.) They remembered studying Debussy last year and a couple of details from his life, mentioned in last year’s lesson. They love the First Discovery Music books about composers. We have been collecting that series since you recommended one in a lesson last year. They love the daily listening calendar, too. We listen to it each day at lunch. It is a beautiful way to call the kids to the table and share that experience together with food for hungry bellies! (Each month we have a listening calendar with a selection curated for each day that goes along with our monthly theme.) Thank you for all that you do! We’ve been so blessed by you! Join SQUILT LIVE! today! Learn More About SQUILT LIVE! All of the details of our membership can be found here. Some other things to consider: Join us at ANY time - we have no opening or closing of our membership doors. Membership includes access to over FIFTY pre-recorded lessons, all searchable in our index to the archives. Our live lessons are a great way for you to outsource something - and for your children to participate in a safe and fun online learning experience. Your teacher (Miss Mary) has over 25 years of experience teaching in elementary school music classrooms, homeschool co-ops, and private settings. She is a degreed music educator and classically trained pianist, and the mother of two teens. We offer a printable lesson packet and quiz at the end of each lesson - perfect for those homeschoolers that need to keep these records for their portfolios. We work with MANY charter schools. In order to keep the input in a CI Latin classroom comprehensible, it is important to keep certain useful questions, words, and phrases on display at all times. I created this document to help make three very useful anchor charts for my own classroom: one of useful phrases (e.g. Quid significat?, Gratias, etc.), one of useful interrogatives that begin with qu- and cu- (e.g Quis?, Cui?, etc.), and one of other useful interrogatives (Ubi?, Quot?, etc.) I did my best to be conservative with paper, so the words are arranged to be big enough to see from all parts of your classroom, but small enough to fit as many as possible onto an 8 1/2" x 11" piece of paper. Caveat Emptor: Some assembly required! This file contains a document of Latin and English words which are meant to be printed out, cut, and glued onto poster board. Though the remaining steps will require a little labor, I've done half the work for you by selecting the words and fitting them onto twenty one 8 1/2" x 11" pieces of paper. All you have to do is download and print! (See thumbnail images for an idea of what the finished posters look like.) For more about anchor charts and for other ideas for your Latin classroom, visit my website: insinuurbis.com!
