LNER-designed AM6 - Class 306 - 'Shenfield Unit' 067approaching Chadwell Heath station, on its way to Gidea Park. These units were originally 1500v DC overhead, and the pantograph was at this end of the unit. The raised roof line can clearly be seen, where the pantograph (and guards compartment) was moved to the centre carriage when the units were converted to 25000v AC in the early '60s. These units were all replaced in the early '80s, but one survives, in run-down condition. Restored from a grainy, unfocussed, motion-blurred original Original slide - photographer unknown See where this picture was taken. [?]
