If we could only see the miniature things that make up the Universe, the world would seem so different. The microscopic world is invisible to the naked eye, but it is full of beautiful or even scary creatures. A whole new world opens through the lens of microscope and let us to give a glimpse into something we have never seen.
Учитывая, что вокруг своей звезды WASP-12b делает оборот менее чем за 24 часа, астрономы имеют прекрасную возможность изучить то, как менялась орбита экзопланеты в разные периоды времени.

Background A revised checklist of the British and Irish Chalcidoidea and Mymarommatoidea substantially updates the previous comprehensive checklist, dating from 1978. Country level data (i.e. occurrence in England, Scotland, Wales, Ireland and the Isle of Man) is reported where known. New information A total of 1754 British and Irish Chalcidoidea species represents a 22% increase on the number of British species known in 1978.
Locality: Dominican Republic Scientific Name: Chalcidoidea, Torymidae Common Name: Wasp Size (mm): 19x12 Notes: Fossil inclusions in amber are the most spectacularly preserved fossils in the entire fossil record. For the rest of the fossil record, you will occasionally have soft tissue preservation. However, in amber the preservation is so extraordinary you can sometimes see every facet of the insects eye. There is an enormous degree of biodiversity preserved, providing a glimpse into past ecosystems. Amber truly is a window into the past. My amber inclusions are obtained from reliable sources and come from localities around the world. Every piece is guaranteed genuine.

Superfamily Chalcidoidea currently has 50 families (and counting) and estimates of 500,000 to 1,000,000 species amongst them. We only know of a tiny fraction of those, and these 90 species from 13 families only barely scratches that fraction! As I started getting better equipment for the tinier wasps, and after this past summer with malaise traps set up, I’ve really REALLY come to love this amazingly diverse and complex superfamily of super tiny wasps. So far I’ve only photographed 90 species, but I hope to double that this summer! Chalcidoids come in a huge array of shapes, colours, and life cycles. Most are parasitoids, many are hyperparasitoids, some are phytophagous, all with a myriad of life cycles. Some species are gregarious, some can’t fly, some have primitive eusociality, some are so tiny they’re the smallest known flying insects, all of them are amazing! There are countless more species yet to be discovered, many species we know of but still no nothing about their biology; Chalcidoidea is a wealth of yet-to-be-solved mysteries! One of the main reasons they’re so mysterious is that they’re so tiny, most species average about 1.5mm with most all under 3mm in length. That’s a standard pencil next to all 90 of these wasps, just to show how tiny they are! So many tiny mysteries flying around us unseen! Eucharitid wasps are parasitic of many different species of ants. Eucharitid larvae will attach themselves to foraging ants, who unknowingly bring them back to the colony. Once there, the wasp larvae...
I have observed this wasp behaviour before with te same species in Beijing (see picture here). The wasp is pilfering the spider's catch directly from the web, dismembering the insect from within its silky wrapping. In this case it is rather unusual because it is cannibalism - the wasp is eating one of its own kind. Other images here and here. Pu'er, Yunnan, China

Here's a beautiful little parasitic wasp I found in Florida. I finally finished editing all the photos from my two weeks in the Sunshine State and added some of the best ones to my website. colinhuttonphotography.com/ These and many more will eventually make it to Flickr, but I've still got lots of photos from earlier in the year that I want to upload first so it may be a while.

Chalcid wasps are any of more than 22,000 species of rather small parasitic wasps (order Hymenoptera). Some authorities believe that this superfamily may actually contain about 100,000 species, although these have not been documented. The average size is about 2 to 3 mm (0.08 to 0.12 inch). Chalcids are usually black or yellow with transparent wings. The adults feed on plant nectar or on the fluids from the wounds of animals. The larvae of most species are parasitic on insects that are pests of food crops, making them beneficial to humans. best viewed LARGE: www.flickr.com/photos/rundstedt/4953111175/sizes/l/

Hymenoptera, Torymidae This focus stack was made by me and a friend who is interested about this technique. We've tested his Canon EOS40D and Mitutoyo M Plan APO 10 microscope objective. 117 exposures taken with 0,01mm steps. Illumination with two flash diffused with a regular paper cylinder. Stacked and retouched in Zerene Stacker (PMax), only 3% cropped removing the stacking bands on the edges. View the 3000px version!
