The King of Clubs Finally my face cards are complete! Did you know that in French and British decks of the 16th century the King of Clubs is often said to depict Ancient Greece’s Alexander the Great? In card reading he is also known as The Master of Knowledge. So a pretty impressive background for our King print here! I grew up playing cards with my family, with my Nan teaching me how to riffle shuffle, and I now play the same games with my children. Following on from my Jack of Spades and Queen of Hearts linocuts, I simply had to have a King to complete the family! This 4 layer lino print is printed from four separate lino blocks, onto top quality St Cuthbert’s Mill Somerset Satin Off White paper and finished off with deckled edges....perfect for metal glass frames! Approx A4 in size • Black, Red, Blue & Yellow Ink Every one of my lino prints are hand printed individually making each one a complete original, no two will be the same! So please bear in mind when ordering, that your print may differ slightly from the pictures shown here. If in stock allow 1-2 business days process time. If not in stock allow 1-2 weeks when ordering to accommodate printing and drying time.

Florence Harrison created this tender watercolor of a child asleep on their mother's lap. It's from The Fairy Ring (1908), a captivating collection of original fairy poetry written and beautifully illustrated by Harrison. This particular image is matched with a poem that tells us "Then hush-a-bye, sweet, to the spell and song of the Dream Shell." See this image on a greeting card! Florence Harrison (1877-1955), an English-Australian artist, left an indelible impression on the world of illustration with her captivating and fantastical artwork for children. Combining Pre-Raphaelite influences with the techniques of fin-de-siècle (turn of the century) poster artists, she crafted a unique style that was indeed her own. Her Golden Age illustrations encompassed a wide range, from bringing her poetry for children to life to adorning the pages of Romantic literary works by renowned authors such as Christina Rossetti, William Morris, and Sir Alfred Tennyson. Among her remarkable creations, the 1912 book Elfin Song is one of her most celebrated works. Our prints are suitable for framing or can be used as is for wall display. Welcome! "Attitude" original Collage Art Doll by inkspired http://www.inkspired.etsy.com/ Today we will be exploring Nursery Rhymes, specifically Rub-A-Dub-Dub Three Men in a Tub! I haven't done a nursery rhyme in a while, and they are such fun! from the book "Rub A Dub" as told by Kin Eagler, illustrated by Rob Gilbert The oldest versions that have been found (printed) have a different wording. See what you think! nursery books. Hey! rub-a-dub, ho! rub-a-dub, three maids in a tub, And who do you think were there? The butcher, the baker, the candlestick-maker, And all of them gone to the fair. This version was printed in Massachusetts around 1825. The origins of this earliest version seem to be from a sideshow attraction at local fairs. The sideshow featured three maids in a tub who were presumably unclothed. It's possible that this rhyme made fun of the men who enjoyed visiting them! The Muppets' version! The first recorded version is in a Christmas Box published in London in 1798. By around 1830 the reference to maids was being removed from the versions printed in In 1842 James Orchard Halliwell collected this version: Rub a dub dub, Three men in a tub, And who do you think they be? The butcher, the baker, The candlestick maker. Turn them out, knaves all three. by Graham McKean Here is yet ANOTHER version, that is currently used today: Rub-a-dub-dub, Three men in a tub, And how do you think they got there? The butcher, the baker, The candlestick-maker, They all jumped out of a rotten potato, 'Twas enough to make a man stare. flickriver.com This nursery rhyme has been used by many different ad agencies to advertise, whether it is a product or a political theme or a change of view: Christian version, by the Christian Mother Goose, http://www.marjorieainsboroughdecker.com/ Can't you just imagine John Cleese as the Baker? :0) Who do you think the two other men should be? Let me know! Sometimes I think I am only writing to myself. You can easily leave a message on the blogspot to let me know someone is out there. embroidery design http://www.d-zignsinc.com/ Here's a fun version we might all enjoy learning: http://www.anorak-magazine.co.uk/ Here is a lovely vintage embroidery piece from 1952 - sheet music from http://www.freehandmusic.com/ http://www.nursery-rhymes.org/ That one is so silly, as 3 grown and dressed men are in the same tub! I do like the rubber ducky on the floor... Here is another funny one: Men in a tub by Roberta Baird at http://www.picturedashbook.com/ Of course, those men are actually in a teacup. It's fun to imagine what the waves would do however! Clever painting. vintage illustration, c.1907 Are you familiar with William Wegman? It all started with his dog, Fannie. Perched atop a daisy, a crowned fairy sits delicately, while a bee friend buzzes by! The artist, Florence Mary Anderson, was one of a handful of women artists named Florence who were actively illustrating beautiful fairies during the Golden Age of Illustration. Born in Greenock, Scotland, Florence Mary Anderson (1889-1945) emerged as a notable children's illustrator and writer during the Golden Age of Illustration. She refined her skills at the Glasgow School of Art and later at Bradford College of Art. Her delicate style frequently adorned works by women children's authors. The post-WWI period marked a prolific phase, yielding notable works such as The Rainbow Twins (1919) and The Password to Fairyland (1920). Anderson's career underwent a gradual shift in her later years, leading to success in landscape painting, portraiture, and teaching. Although her legacy sometimes intertwines with other artists due to similar names, her enduring contributions to folklore and fairy tale illustrations remain a distinctive mark of the era.
