After painting, if the color fires out too light, it should be strength-ened by washing over with some of the pure color. If the work in gen-eral is pale or dull it can be brightened by strengthening the shadowsand half-tones, and finally washing in the local color. As a rule, shadowsshould be painted darker than they are to be when fired, as dark colorslose more in proportion than light colors in firing. When a color is toodark it may be corrected by washing over it a contrasting color.
