The Felted Christmas Stocking Pattern allows one to think outside the box when it comes to color. You can have fun choosing a different color for each family member or coordinate the colors to jazz up the Holidays with bright colors or traditional colors! This felted stocking design features a short-row heel and toe and an I-cord trim and hang loop at the top. Instructions for felting are included. Knit on large circular needles with bulky yarn makes this a breeze to knit up stockings for the entire family! Once felted, these stockings will last indefinitely and handle any number of stocking stuffers because of the finished thickness and size. Embellish each stocking after felting with old family brooches or decorative Holiday pins and/or cool buttons.Test knitted by Patricia Oakley. Ready to start knitting right now? 🧶 **The Knitting Pattern** 🧶 Our pattern includes detailed instructions, charts, and full alphabets for personalization, allowing you to create a stocking that is uniquely yours. Whether you're a seasoned knitter or just starting, our easy-to-follow pattern will guide you every step of the way. This Christmas stocking pattern draws inspiration from the iconic Selbu mittens, with their roots tracing back to the charming village of Selbu in Norway. These mittens are celebrated for their intricate and enduring designs, embodying a timeless blend of artistry and tradition. For generations, Selbu mittens have symbolized warmth and comfort during the unforgiving Scandinavian winters, making them a cherished and enduring part of Nordic culture. Details The stocking is knit from the cuff down. Included are charts for colorwork and full alphabets for personalization. Short rows are used for the heel, I prefer German Short Rows but you can use any short row technique you like. To finish the stocking I attach an I-cord loop to hang from. I also line my stockings with felt and then block. To block I lay the lined stocking on an ironing board, cover with a damp thin towel, and then iron. When ironing, I work in small sections lifting the iron frequently and gently pressing, I never push the iron down and stretch the knitting. The hot steam blocks the stocking perfectly and the felt lining has enough structure to hold the stockings shape. Finished Measurements Length: 22.5 in. (57 cm) Width: 7 3/4 in. (19 cm) Gauge Gauge for this item is not as important as it would be for a knitted garment. With that said gauge for this stocking was measured over 4 inches and after blocking. 33 Stitches 34 Rows Yarn 1 skein Malabrigo Sock Fingering Weight Yarn in Color: 350 Gepetto 1 skein Malabrigo Sock Fingering Weight Yarn in Color: 195 Black Needles US size 2 (2.75mm) double point needles or circulars. I used my interchangeable needles 4 inch needle length and a 14 inch cord
These cute stockings has enough room to hold chocolates, candies, cookies and other small gifts for kids, bring Christmas happiness to home.
This listing is for a PDF KNITTING PATTERN. Beautiful, isn’t it? Create your own picture perfect Christmas by knitting up this classic piece of home decor. As the result of a trip to Norway, I was inspired by the beautiful designs that were used in the knitting from Selbu, the home of the now famous “Selbu Mittens”. This Christmas stocking incorporates one of the larger star/rose style motifs with borders of “endless roses” both at the top of the stocking and the toe. Techniques for knitting the stocking include broken rib for the cuff at the top of the stocking, knitting with two colors at the same time and catching floats, working a flap heel, round toe and an I-cord hanging loop. This pattern makes a generously sized stocking with a finished size of about 16 inches around and 24 inches top to toe. This stocking is worked in a heavy worsted weight but a finer yarn could be used to make a smaller stocking. Yarn: Heavy Worsted Weight – Main Color - 4oz/200yds, Contrast Color - 2.5oz/125yds. Gauge: 17.5 sts per 4 inches. The gauge is not critical in this project but you will want a fairly tight, smooth fabric. If you knit very loosely try a smaller needle size. If you would like a smaller stocking choose a light worsted weight or DK weight yarn and smaller needles to match those suggested by yarn.

You will receive the PDF of the pattern by email within 24-48 hours of purchase As the result of a trip to Norway, I was inspired by the beautiful designs that were used in the knitting from Selbu, the home of the now famous “Selbu Mittens”. The museum in Selbu has some wonderful pieces of knitting history. This Christmas stocking has borders of diamonds and “endless roses” both at the top of the stocking and the toe. I saw many examples of these borders in the Selbu museum. They were used in hats, mittens, socks and sweaters. Techniques used in this stocking include broken rib for the cuff at the top of the stocking, knitting with two colors at the same time, catching floats, working a flap heel, round toe and an I-cord hanging loop. This is a generously sized stocking with a finished size of about 16 inches around and 23.5 inches top to toe. My samples are worked in a heavy worsted weight and a sport weight to make a smaller stocking. To make the stocking you will need: Yarn: Worsted Weight – Main Color - red 4oz/200yds, Contrast Color - white 2.5oz/125yds. Needles: Size 8 circular -16 inches long and a set of size 8 double pointed needles for decreasing the toe.
