Coming straight to you from "pre-Code" Hollywood is this April 1931 issue of Photoplay magazine, in excellent condition for its age, replete with photos and gossip about all the major stars at the time. The cover story, of course, involves the romantic pairings of Janet Gaynor and Charles Farrell in numerous films and, in typical Hollywood-gossip fashion, there's a speculation that their chemistry on-screen continues off-screen as well (and there was some truth to this, though ultimately they married different people). There are numerous other photo treatments of stars and starlets, as well as advertisements for chic cosmetics, and glimpses of stylistically fabulous dresses and costumes from the beginning of the Golden Era of moviemaking. Of particular note is an interview/publicity work-up on Ruth Chatterton, who easily made the jump from silent films to "talkies" (see images). As indicated, the condition of this magazine is excellent for its age. Most all of the wear/handling is on the covers (again, see images), while the inner pages are virtually pristine, save for some age-related tanning. Sensitive buyers should note there is a light musty smell when leafing through the issue, as is often the case with magazines over 90 years old. That smell is not noticeable outside its poly-bag though.

Lots of pictures of classic Hollywood stars and advertisements. Great condition considering its age.
