Ruth strikes the balance between sophistication and comfort. It’s a straightforward Cocoknits method pattern with an incorporated collar, but the magic happens when you cross the front collar stitches, transforming it into a streamlined shawl collar pullover. Side vents add to the ease and wearability of the sweater. C

With more than 30 years' of knitting, designing and teaching experience, Julie Weisenberger presents her first book: Cocoknits Sweater Workshop, which includes nine new designs. More than just a collection, however, this book explains the Cocoknits Method – a system of tracking knitting progress in your own easy-to-follow customised worksheet. Unlike most traditional patterns that create flat shapes, the tailored style of construction in these patterns creates truly three-dimensional garments that impart a great fit upon completion. The innovative colour-coded Cocoknits Worksheet shows exactly where to work shaping elements without having to continually read and interpret pattern abbreviations, and, at the same time, allows the knitter complete control over customisation to achieve a fantastic fit. All the designs are worked from the neckline down, so once the neck and yoke area are established, the knitter can just cruise through generating the sweater and not worry about counting or losing track of their place in the pattern. Another advantage of knitting top-down is the ability to try on your garment as you work, to ensure the fit is right. In addition to all new patterns, Julie has included an in-depth guide to choosing the right patterns for your figure type with considerations for colourwork, textured stitches and hemlines all working together to create the right silhouette for you.

Learn how to work a 3-needle bind-off to add a hem to any top-down sweater. Specifically in Cocoknits Method patterns, this technique is used in Renee to create a drawstring casing. Instead of binding off as usual and sewing a hem or two pieces together, learn how to bind off two sets of stitches together to create a hemmed edge.

In Cocoknits Sweater Workshop, I explain the Cocoknits Method which uses a new tool – the Cocoknits Worksheet. The colored vertical lines on the columns of the Cocoknits Worksheet correspond to the borders of sections of your sweater: left front, left sleeve, back, right sleeve, and right front. When you select the pattern you’d like to make and have double checked that your yarn is the right gauge, fill in the stitch quantities for each section from your pattern into your Worksheet. As you set up your knitting, you will place a stitch marker of the same color as the corresponding line on your Worksheet at the border of each section. We offer a variety of stitch markers that we created specifically to go along with this worksheet, browse all of the options here. Then just follow along with the increases and shaping you’ve filled into your Worksheet from your chosen pattern. You’ll be able to see at a glance where and when to increase without having to continually refer to the written pattern. And if you put your knitting down for a few days (or a few years), it’s very easy to see where you left off in your pattern just by checking the stitch count between the markers. The Cocoknits Worksheet can then be your own customized pattern to make in other colorways and yarns. You can also use Cocoknits Worksheets to plan out any other seamless yoked sweater patterns. For a video tutorial, watch Why & How to Use a Cocoknits Sweater Worksheet.

Cocoknits Sweater Worksheet is an integral part of the system for knitting seamless, tailored, top-down sweaters in the Cocoknits Method. They make knitting sweaters using the color-coded Cocoknits Method virtually carefree, with very little counting required. Once filled in, the Worksheet allows you to create the yoke shaping of any seamless, yoked sweater pattern easily & without referring to written-out instructions. These can be used with any seamless, yoked sweater pattern even if the pattern is not from Cocoknits. The Sweater Worksheet Journal contains 24 blank Worksheets &it becomes a diary of your sweater-knitting history. All the information - from date begun & finished, yarns used, gauge, pattern source - is recorded in its pages for future reference.
Picking up endless stitches for a button band/collar is a thing of the past with the Cocoknits Method Collar. Rather than adding this finishing touch once your cardigan is complete, it's knit at the same time as the rest of the sweater. You'll cast on right after you complete the Upper Back and integrate the Collar with the rest of the sweater after picking up the Shoulder stitches. Oh yeah, it's also nearly seamless. However lovely this technique is, it may pose a challenge the first time you knit it because it can be difficult to visualize. But don't you worry, this article has everything you need so that knitting your first Cocoknits Method Collar will feel less like a puzzle and more like a no-brainer.
