Taller than trees and towering over buildings, Johanna Goodman‘s pieced together female forms appear to stretch far above the landscapes before them. The collaged works, which combine elements of art, design, and architecture, are a part of Goodman’s series titled The Catalogue of Imaginary Beings, which aims to explore the individual’s role in history and popular culture. “[The Catalogue of Imaginary Beings] draws its inspiration from a wide spectrum of sources—including magical realism, surrealism, and symbolism—and more specific references such cultural artifacts as talismans, idols, totems, and all of the material detritus that surrounds all of us all the time,” Goodman told Ms. More
Happy Compilation Shmunday flickr!!! CARRY ME AWAY Due to me having to travel for a good 6hrs today (I went to Wales, for those who asked! All my 365s were taken in very cold wind and occasionally rain. I was the only person in a bikini on the WHOLE beach on yesterdays shot, it was so cold!) so we decided to do another compilation shmunday! Aaron is my hero. He has given me a new lease on life - this time last year I would never have had had the courage to do half the things I can do now. He is more than I could have ever dreamed of. With him, it feels as though anything is possible. <3 115/365 hehe - now you can check out mine and aaron's radio interview we did while he was here with me!!! how cool is that!? Also, I just realized this is my 101th photo in explore! This calls for celebration - I am going to go eat some CAKE!

Since its inception, Hollywood has shown us an image of unattainable youth and glamour, though quite frankly, French collage artist Matthieu Bourel doesn't seem too impressed. Whether in his hand-cut collages or entrancing animated GIFs, Bourel deconstructs images of models and actors of a bygone era. He splices divas' head shots with anatomical diagrams, peeling away what looks like layers of skin to reveal veins and eyeballs. In other works, faces come off like masks only to reveal more removable faces underneath. Bourel's bizarre and slightly morbid work points to the illusions of the entertainment industry. He makes his viewers cognizant of the absurdity of our celebrity-obsessed culture through his strange sense of humor.

Monarch Butterfly Collage This original collage was created on Arches 140 lb. Cold-Pressed Watercolor Paper. The collage was made entirely with recycled magazines. I love monarch butterflies, and thought it would be fun to do a collage of one. We have enjoyed watching them visiting the rain garden in our backyard. We've planted milkweed and other plants to attract them, the hummingbirds like to visit as well. This piece measures 18" x 18 1/2". For purposes of shipping, the collage will have a foam core backing and will be placed in a protective sleeve. I retain all copyrights to my artwork.
