In January, Maison Margiela revealed its Artisanal Spring/Summer 2018 collection during Paris’ haute couture Fashion Week. The highlight of the show was the use of holographic materials, a common theme in the collection, which was christened China Star. At the crossroads of craftsmanship and technology, China Star went through a rigorous creation process – firstly, the material was covered in micro pearls, and then, zinc sulfide was applied to cotton or nylon. See the images of the impossibly reflective result, the first of its kind used on an haute couture runway.
