This sample has been developed from the previous samples using more contemporary yarns and much more colour. I feel that this sample is very successful, due to the use of contrasting machine gauge's and direction of the knitting. I think the mono-filament is a little much on this sample and also difficult to use, therefore I may try a replacement yarn to stop the unwanted breaking and laddering. I believe this sample to be a great contender for my up and coming garments.

When light hits a drop of water remarkable things can occur. It can refract through the water and form rainbows in the sky. Or it can have a mirroring effect, reflecting it back and create small spots of light. Liquid light is a series of experimental optical fiber textiles inspired by the interaction between water […]

My installation, Overgrowth, which was constructed during my residency last summer at Contemporary Craft, is on display in Lake City, SC as a part of the Artfields competition. I drove up yesterday with my lovely assistant Lysa to install it in a really great space called Emerson Row. The shop is full of beautiful pieces selected and often refurbished by owner Emily Richardson. It was a great fit for Overgrowth, which grew down the brick walls and onto an antique hutch. Artfields is an art competition in Lake City, South Carolina, which runs from April 25th until May 4th. If you in the are stop by and check it out!
Sculptural Textiles is an investigation within the field of textile design exploring sculptural possibilities for machine woven textiles. By combining contrasting yarns and textile construction the project aims to create a range of textiles that can be shaped by hand and adapted to various settings. The essence of this project is in the subtle meeting between contrasts in material such as shiny-dull, elastic-stiff, transparent-opaque, rough-smooth, natural and synthetic and how these meetings can create sculptural qualities. www.statirajazayeri.com

My current work embraces sculpting methods using textiles from sustainable recycling of cloth, fiber and found objects. I combine weaving, wrapping, felting and hand sewing in abstract whimsical sculptures or large cocoon like amulets of variant sizes. Though domestic in nature it has little or nothing to do with domesticity other than a nod to materials used by women who craft out of an affiliation with these materials or the obsessive nature of crafted textile arts I embrace the spastic and weirdly beautiful combinations to cast aside tradition as much as possible. I work wherever and whenever I have time. I use a combined studio and “portable” approach, I bring my studio wherever I go, both traveling with materials and finding them along the way. Among my inspirations for the open and productive way I work is my long time interest in “wattle and daub” a construction method using natural, readily available materials. My work is less theoretical than just about making.
