Conway Twitty always downplayed his talent when he spoke of his career to interviewers. He said: “What I’ve done doesn’t impress me at all.
Despite the fact that Conway Twitty is one of the most popular country artists of all time, there isn't much live footage to remember him by. That's why when fans do come across a recording of one of Twitty's performances, it's much like finding buried treasure. Known for singing songs that made country gals feel a bit weak in the knees, Twitty charmed his way to the top spot of the charts with such a song in 1982. Originally recorded by The Pointer Sisters the year prior, Twitty took "Slow Hand" and made it entirely his own. Much like his previous hit "I'd Love to Lay You Down," Twitty's version of "Slow Hand" is a sexy and slightly risque tune. Lyrics such as "You've got a man with a slow hand. You've got a lover with an easy touch," have made many a country girl's heart skip a beat when they hear Twitty sing them. In 1983, Twitty stepped on stage to perform the song live on Nashville Now, and that performance was one of his few that was recorded. Thank goodness it was, because it illustrates Twitty's immense talent as a singer, storyteller, and crowd pleaser. Twitty turned on the charm in his swoon-worthy performance, and could be seen smiling at and gesturing toward the crowd. His smooth voice sailed through the words to the song, captivating everyone in the room. You'll also be mesmerized by Twitty in this rare recording of one of his classic hits. See it for yourself in the video below. There will never be another like Twitty, that's for sure!

Well, I knew I had to do it eventually… Illustrate Conway Twitty that is. I say that because Conway had a lot to do with my family's success in life. My father Velton Lang was his road manager for 25 years and I knew him well. He was a good friend to our entire family not to mention a pretty good singer to boot. He started off as a rock and roll singer in the fifties but later converted to country music for good and we are all better off for it. His drummer Tommy Markham better known as "Porkchop" would introduce Conway onto the stage every night by proclaiming "And now, the best friend a song ever had… Con…way…Twitty!!! I would say that fit him. My family still misses him and I hope I did him justice.
