My initial inspiration surrounds the theme of illusion and how the lines and forms are performed within the human body to create a sense of deception. Traditional eastern european costume and specifically ethnic elements and the boning-constructions of the costume also contributed towards my idea. The goldfish is a kind of aquarium fish that developed from carp by humans, and it was born to be kept in a fish tank to be watched. Modern people live in their own perceived world just like a bunch of goldfish that have no thoughts of their own and tend to follow others blindly. They are too concerned about the opinions of others to blind themselves. They are eager to get attention to be grandstanding. They are trapped in the aesthetic values of the public.

Max Siedentopf was in the process of getting his picture taken to renew his passport. As he sat in front of the camera, he began thinking of all of the ridiculous restraints placed on the small image —no smile, or patterns, or glasses, or anything interesting whatsoever.
