I’ve been collecting random ribbons for well over a year in preparation for this tree. From estate sales, to pretty gift boxes, and finally a wonderful rally from Thrift Club members – all of the ribbons are secondhand. I began with the solids in satin, gross grain, velvet, silk, and paper, then added in some patterns that spoke to the colors. It turned out way more fun than I anticipated (I’m not typically a “fun” girl, ask those close to me ), but I think it’s just what I needed! Plus, it reminds me of thoughtful gifts given and club members’ generosity. It could be great tradition to start! It’s hard to pick a favorite ribbon, but stripes always do it for me and remind me of @angelachrusciakiblehm. How about you? My love of thrifting is always fun to join. Do you @ThriftWithTheMakerista? Join Thrift Club for $35/year […]

Christmas trees nowadays range from traditional to so uniquely modern that they are hardly even trees at all. And it is absolutely up to a person's wishes what their Christmas tree should look like. In a way, the Christmas tree is only a symbol. According to a Christmas expert in "Pre-Christian/Pagan times, people used branches of evergreen trees to decorate their homes during the winter solstice, as it made them think of the spring to come". So, in the end, it has never been about the traditional Christmas tree we see in the movies but more about the meaning behind it.

Well folks, early November wouldn’t be early November if someone wasn’t trying to jingle you into the Christmas spirit. Usually the spirit hits me in August, which is profoundly inconvenient btw, but this year I held off long enough to let sweater weather set in. And this time it was worth the wait! I have a good old fashioned DIY tutorial for you tonight accompanied by a little treat at the end! To conclude my busy Thanksgiving weekend, Simon and I decorated our tree. This was not just any ordinary tree. This happened to be a steal of a deal from a local thrift store. Monday's are half off, so I ended up paying twenty bucks for it last month! When it comes to making decisions, you all know how I am. Funny enough, I decided on the colors for our tree this year rather quick. Okay, I changed it a few times before settling, but I settled hard and fast when I did. I decided to do multi-colored lights and all white ornaments. I designed a few of my own ornaments with inspiration from this pinterest project in which you draw a design, trace over it with a glue gun then spray it one color. Source: bedifferentactnormal.com via Myers Maison on Pinterest So I did just that. 1. Draw onto clear ornaments 2. Hot glue over the drawings. 3. Spray paint over the bulb. This is how they look on the tree I wanted a white tree topper but couldn't find one that I liked. Instead I bought a large decorative ornament from Target for 5 bucks and...you guessed it! Sprayed it white. And now, our tree! And now for an extra special treat...my first video! It's a time-lapse of us trimming the tree. I hope you enjoy!
