10 things not to miss at hampton court palace
Amazing historic district, stretching on for a mile around and slightly more (10 x 5 blocks?) Mostly Victorian architecture but older structures, too (factories). Ever in Louisville, Old Louisville is a must see! Many walking tours and tours of the mansions are available all year round. (Apparently. I have made myself the new tourist board for Louisville, Kentucky! - LOL) This font is in one of the most elegant of the walking courts. Though from this and other of my pictures, it may seem to be an "elite" area, income levels and cultures are extremely diverse. I lived there for years and do miss it quite a bit!

The Chesme Church (Russian: Чесменская церковь; full name Church of Saint John the Baptist at Chesme Palace, Russian: це́рковь Рождества́ Иоа́нна Предте́чи при Че́сменском Дворце́), is a small Russian Orthodox church in Saint Petersburg, Russia. It was built by the Russian court architect Yury Felten in 1780 at the direction of Catherine the Great, Empress of Russia. A memorial church, it was erected to commemorate the anniversary of Russia's 1770 victory over Turkish forces in Chesme Bay during the Russo-Turkish War of 1768-1774. Empress Catherine II chose the site as it was here that she got the news of the Russian victory over the Turks. The church was the earliest Neo-Gothic construction in the St Petersburg area. Considered by some to be St Petersburg's single most impressive church, it is a rare example of very early Gothic Revival influence in Russian church architecture. The church is in the shape of a wedding cake: it appears like a "candy cone, with long, vertical white stripes (embossed vertical string cornices drawn together with figured horizontal fascias) giving the impression that it’s rising straight up from the earth like a mirage and shooting upwards." The coffin of Rasputin rested in Chesme Church before his burial at Tsarskoye Selo in 1916.
