made by me a number of years ago for a craft show... the craft show was a bust, unfortunately.

This wooden spool comes from the mid-twentieth century. Standing at 9” tall, it's 2.5” diameter at the top and 4 inches at he bottom with brass bands on the ends. An opening runs the length of the bobbin Due to the nature of antiquing, we are never 100% sure of when our bobbins were made, but this one seems to have come from the 1930s. If you need to get in touch with us, please use Item_11 to reference this product. Nowadays, our bobbins are often used in crafting and other creative arts. Many people also use them for home decor or table centerpieces. The possibilities are endless, and we look forward to seeing what you come up with! Please note: as we like to say, “bobbins are seasoned workers in dignified retirement.” That means that your bobbins sometimes may show signs of wear and tear. We do our best to be as explicit as possible in the listing with any defects that might appear. We occasionally have a large quantity of bobbins and quills available. If you wish to order larger lots or create a custom order, we are happy to discuss this with you. Please do not hesitate to reach out to us. Thank you for visiting Milling Around Maine!
Is that a word? Did I just make that one up? Anyway, to keep costs down for the wedding, we are trying to make those much needed props ourselves. Really, we are trying to keep costs down. And really, we just like to make things. Can you think of ANYTHING else that says FRUGAL more than altered thread spools? Nope, me either but I think they are kind of cute. I could make a hundred of these and be happy. Easy, peasy - with a little bit of creativity in the mix. I've been saving, hoarding, collecting little bits and pieces for YEARS, just for this wedding! At least that is my excuse for storing boxes of stuff in the 'don't open the door' closet. And now for your 'handmade', 'use-what-you-have', 'there is a use for everything eventually', 'ta-da' peek of fancy-schmancy 'what every wedding should incorporate in their decor' piece of beauty ----- the very versatile tin jello mold! I did tell you before that the theme of the wedding was simple but ELEGANT right? We may be crossing the line just a tad. I'm so proud that we are finally using some of my crap, junk, worthless stuff, collections for GOOD instead of EVIL PILES. And I can tell my main man that we are not SPENDING MONEY on everything for the wedding. Look honey, we MADE these ourselves out of stuff we already had!! Now all I have to do is think of a new excuse to continue to find, buy, search for, hoard, COLLECT more of those addicting little bits and pieces of goodness! Now, go start a box of your own treasures for some future day of ELEGANCE!

Beautifully worn antique spools, salvaged from a turn of the century textile mill in Georgia. Up until recently these pieces were still being used in one of the few yarn mills still operating in the US. This unique variety is very sturdy, made of wood with a metal core. The wonderfully rustic patina of these primitive pieces will add warmth to your home as a display piece or craft organizer or they could be perfect for your next craft project! *If your interested in purchasing more than are currently listed or a different size please message me.* Measurements - Wood & metal spools are approximately 8.5in tall, with the ends being 5in in diameter. Wood spools are approximately 12 inches tall. Condition - This item is soundly constructed & does show signs of its vintage patina - please bear in mind this piece is a genuine antique that has spent many years being used in an industrial setting so some wear is to be expected. If you have any questions about this piece please don't hesitate to contact me prior to ordering. Take a look at the rest of the shop, I'm happy to combine shipping whenever possible!

Hi everyone!!!! I have two cool things to show you today ~ hopefully inspire you to try them. I have done these very cool tags for heAR...

I picked up a bag of old wooden thread spools at a flea market last week. There were 9 of them, 4 of one design and 5 of another. The 4 shorter, fatter spools have graphics from a textile factory in Shelby NC on the tops and bottoms of them. I had a few ideas of what I thought I would use the spools for. My first thought was to use them as hooks on a coat/hat rack, but then the cooler weather changed my direction. I decided to jump ahead a little to CHRISTMAS!!!! Why not add small Christmas trees to each spool? I dug through my craft stash and found a bag of bottle brush trees that I picked up earlier in the year at a Goodwill. What a great combination - bottle brush trees and old wooden spools! This was a super easy project. Step 1 - cut up a wine cork to push over the wire at the base of the tree and also to fit inside of the holes on the spools. Step 2 - hot glued the cork into place inside of the spool Step 3 - pick something to wrap around the spool for decoration and hot glue it on. I wanted to make a few sets of trees, so I used different things. I made two with sheet music, two with a creamy white duck cloth fabric and five with red ticking fabric. Step 4 - decorate. I chose two tiny plastic deer to add to the sheet music trees and rusty stars to add to the others. (again, just a little hot glue) Step 5 - your finished, now blend them into your ironstone collection in your hutch or amongst your holiday decor around the house. Here they are up close: Sheet music and tiny Deer Creamy White and Rusty Stars Red Ticking and Rusty Stars Aren't they just darling! Thanks for stopping by and enjoy your day!
