Thanks for stopping by for the Stamper's Dozen Blog Hop! This month we are hopping a week later than usual. Our theme this month is Color Your World. I decided to use the beautiful Band Together bundle for my project....
Block 9 Bullseye This week’s block will help you hit the mark and hone your quick corner triangles - it's the Bullseye block. The center is a simple framed square ..... Bullseye Block - Steps 2 and 3 And from there it is a case of sew and repeat. Firstly you add four small quick corners. Bullseye Block - Step 4 Then you frame the square again ...... Bullseye Block - Steps 5 and 6 Add another four quick corners slightly larger than the first ....... Bullseye Block - Step 7 Then you frame the square one last time .... Bullseye Block - Steps 8 and 9 Finally you add four background quick corners, bigger than the previous ....... Completed Block 9 - Bullseye Simple, quick and very smart. So quick in fact, I had time to stitch three arrows from Block 17 'London Roads' to create a Three Arrow Sidebar. It goes perfectly with the Bullseye block. Straight shooting for a fun Bullseye Mug Rug (The arrowheads of the London Roads block use Skinny Triangles which I will be showcasing when we get to Block 17 - along with the Three Arrow Sidebar.) I look forward to seeing your blocks on Instagram (#block9bullseye) or in the Flickr Group.

Hello on this wonderful Monday! I have been working on my projects for my Scrap Along class on Saturday all weekend, that I totally forgot to do a blog post for today. This card though is worth the wait! On Friday night I had my Creative Fold Card Class, it...

I've been playing with my Bake Sale fabric line again and cutting thimble shapes for dresden blocks!. The blocks are machine appliquéd ... and only have 12 blades per dresden so that they are really fast to make. I used the small size Bee in my Bonnet Thimble Ruler to cut the blades. When I designed these rulers a few years back… I drew them not only to be a thimble shape… but I also drew them on an specific angle so that when 12 of them were sewn together they would form a perfect circle!!! YaY! I cut the blades for this dresden block 3 1/2" tall… so that it would fit onto a 12" background square. I cut 3 1/2" x WOF strips and simply lined up the bottom edge of the ruler with the bottom edge of of the fabric strip each and every time that I cut. I also folded the strip in half so that I cut 2 at a time:) I flipped the ruler over each time I cut so that the only fabric that was wasted was just a little on each end of the strip:) You can cut twelve to fourteen 3 1/2" tall thimbles from one 3 1/2" x WOF strip. I also used 7" squares to cut some of the thimbles. You can get 4 - 3 1/2" tall thimbles from one 7" square. Just cut the square in half so that you have two 3 1/2" x 7" strips... Layer them for cutting 2 at a time. And again… line the Thimble Ruler bottom edge up with the bottom edge of fabric. Cut on both sides of the ruler... Flip the ruler over and cut again… easy peasy! After all of your cutting is complete… Choose 12 thimbles to use for the dresden blades for one block. If you have never sewn a dresden block before you will be surprised at how easy they are. The first step is to fold the blade with right sides together and line up the top edges like this. Then sew across the top with a 1/4" seam allowance. I like to secure this seam with a backstitch or two at the beginning and the ending. I also like to chain piece all 12 of the dresden blades in the block. Not only is it speedy...but it saves thread as well:) I cut them apart and flip the top of each one right side out by splitting the seam apart and placing my finger at the very end of the seam... so that it looks like this inside… making sure that the seam is open. When you turn it…it automatically forms a point like this! YaY! The tip will need a little help to get a nice point... and so I use the rounded end of a small crochet hook to GENTLY push out the point… making sure the seam remains open. I give it a good press making sure that the seam goes down the center of the blade. I turn it over and give it a quick press on this side too so that it is nice and flat. *NOTE…remember to PRESS instead of IRON. there is a difference!!! If you move the iron back and forth on the blade… you can easily distort it:) Turn and press all 12 blades like this. Grab a larger design board and lay them out in the order that you want them…like this. Take a quick picture on your cell phone for easy reference between sewing and pressing so that you can lay them back out in the same order if you forget:) Sew two blades together starting at the top edge and using a 1/4" seam allowance. I also do a backstitch or two at the beginning and ending of this seam to secure it. Press the seams open so they will lie nice and flat. Lay them back out… using your photo if needed:) Now sew two sets together 3 times like this… Sew the last 3 seams until you have formed the dresden! Don't forget to press the seams open at each step. P.S. Now you can delete the pic on your iPhone:) Set your dresden aside and grab the Circle Ruler that fits a 7" square. Cut a 7" square of fabric to use for the center circle of the dresden... Also cut a 7" square of light to medium weight SEW IN interfacing. This means NON-FUSIBLE. I use Pellon brand! You can find it in any fabric store and you can also get a 3 yard package by clicking here:) Place the circle ruler in the center of the interfacing square and trace around it … using a mechanical pencil for a thin line:) Pin it to the right side of your 7" square of fabric… (I used Sew Cherry Red Gingham) And stitch directly onto your marked lines… all the way around… backstitching when you begin and end. Trim off the excess approximately 1/4" past your stitching line like this. Use your seam ripper and carefully cut a slit about 3" long (in the center of the interfacing only) to create an opening. Turn right side out and pinch or "roll" around the edges between your fingers like this... for a nice circle shape. Give it a good press on the front so it lies flat and has a good crease on the edges. This is what the back looks like… a fast and easy circle all ready for some machine appliqué! I like to fold my circle in half and then in half again… and press about a 1" long crease in from the edges. I use these creases to make sure that my circle is centered when I pin it onto my dresden. Set your circle aside for a minute. Cut your background fabric 12 1/2" square … fold exactly in half and press. Fold in half again and press. (I used "snow" from the Riley Blake Shades collection) Place your dresden onto your background square and line up all 4 of the creases with a dresden seam… (not a point, but a seam) and pin into place. Your dresden should be perfectly centered onto the background by using the pressed creases as a guide. YaY! Now pin the circle exactly in the center… using the creases as your guide once again. You are ready to machine appliqué! I first appliqué my dresden onto the background and then the circle onto the center last. I used white thread for this block (Aurifil 2024 50wt.100% cotton) and a small zig-zag stitch. I set the stitch width and length on my Bernina on about 1.5 or 2.0. Use a piece of scrap fabric when setting the size on your machine and then write down what you did so that you can remember for the next block:) I try to start in the middle of a blade where the backstitching will be the least noticable. I keep all of my pins in until the entire block is complete to prevent any shifting during the appliqué. I remove the pins and give it a good press on the back. I don't find that pressing the front is necessary at this point:) And there you have it… a fast and easy dresden block! I'll need 24 more dresden blocks to complete my quilt. I'm doing 5 rows of 5 so that it will be a square quilt to use on the farm table in my kitchen. I'll show you when it's pieced… quilted… and on the table! xx Lori P.S. I forgot to tell you that my Bake Sale pre cuts (as well as my other fabric collections) are also available in 3 1/2" rolls as well as 7" squares!
I have a new project for 2011. I have always had a difficult time using little bits of time to accomplish big things. I have had this quilt in my head for a long time and have decided to make it square by square this year, one square each day. It will be all solid fabrics but I don't think I am going to plan a color scheme, I think I will just let it evolve organically. Each square is 4". I was inspired by this post from Kathleen Loomis, at Art With a Needle. I love her writing and her work, but most of all I love her questions. She really keeps me thinking. I realistically won't post every day, but here are January 1 and January 2. Geoff suggested that I might make a note about each block. They definitely have meaning and it might be interesting to remember. January 1 is just about that conflict that is always in my heart at the end of Christmas. I am glad to clean up and get back to routine, but my daughters have left, one by one, and that is always hard. January 2 is about driving the last one back to college. Not a fan of doing that.
My Beautiful, Lovely, Wonderful and Amazing daughter is turning 8 on Wednesday and she LOVES birds. I mean, dreams about, talks about, owns dozens of stuffys, loves birds! So I try to make a card for her Birthday every year that has a bird on it. This year I made a bunch of Punch Art Birds, most of which I saw on Pinterest. I could not pick just one so I put them all on the card. Above is the outside of the card. I was going to add one bird in the little hole but as I said I could not pick just one so I added them all. I am sure she will be thrilled with them. To the right is the inside of the card. Above starting at the top going clockwise; Blue Jay, Cockatoo, Robin, and a Cardinal. Right; Hummingbird, Chickadee, Robin and Red Winged Blackbird. The Card is made with Early Espresso Paper and Garden Green Leaves. All of the birds are made with the Bird Builder Punch from Stampin Up, as are the leaves. Happy Birthday to My Little Girl. XOXO Thanks for looking! Janet Y [email protected]

Napkin Fold cards definitely have the WOW factor! They are made from a single sheet of cardstock that folds inward to form a kind of pouch that would be perfect for hiding a gift card or some money. You can decorate the card with co-ordinating pieces of patterned paper and an embellished belly band to hold everything together. Fold Template 1. Start with a sheet of cardstock measuring 11" x 11". Score at 23/4" and again at 81/4". Turn the cardstock 90 degrees and score again at 23/4" and 81/4". 2. Fold and crease along each score line. Your cardstock should look like the photo below. 3. Find the centre point of the cardstock by measuring 51/2" from each edge toward the middle. Mark the centre with a small dot. 4. Fold each corner into the centre. Notice how my score lines line up as I fold. 5. Open the cardstock out again. It should look like the picture below. 6. Now it's time to fold it up. Start by pushing in on one side. Hold down the large triangle with your fingers, then bring the corners of the cardstock back into the centre. Do this on all four sides. (I practiced this step with printer paper a few times before I got the hang of it.) 7. Now take one corner and fold it backward, lining up all the edges and points. Crease well, and repeat for the remaining three points. 8. You've now finished creating the base card. All that's left is the decorating... the fun part! 9. To decorate, you'll need three sheets of co-ordinating patterned paper. One that measures 5" x 5" and two that measure 43/4" x 43/4". 10. Start with the paper measuring 5" x 5". Use your trimmer or a craft knife to cut from one corner to the other so you end up with two large triangles. 11. Cut both triangles in half again so you end up with four smaller triangles. Set them aside. 12. Cut the two 43/4" x 43/4" pieces of patterned paper in the same way so you end up with four triangles from each sheet of paper. Now cut each of these small triangles once more so you have eight tiny triangles from each sheet of paper. 13. You should now have four large triangles and sixteen small triangles. 14. These triangles will fit perfectly inside each of the creases you made on your card, with a little border around the edges. If desired, ink the edges of your patterned paper and cardstock before you adhere them together. 15. Cut a 51/4" x 51/4" piece of neutral cardstock for the centre of the card. This is where you will add your handwritten message so make sure the cardstock you use isn't too textured or dark in colour. Add a stamped image and sentiment then adhere to the centre panel of the card with double sided tape. 16. Create a belly band from 12" strips of cardstock and patterned paper. You can make the band as wide as you like. I cut a 2" strip of vanilla cardstock, a 1" strip of red cardstock and a 3/4" strip of patterned paper for my band. 17. Fold the band around your card to get the correct measurement. Overlap and secure the ends at the front of the card. 18. Embellish a little disc or tag to cover the join and add some extra strength to the band. 19. Fold your card and slip the band over to keep everything together. Done!

Happy saturday! I haven't even put away my Christmas decor yet, (happening sunday I hope!) yet I received this adorable owl stamp set in the mail and knew I had to make something cute for Valentine's day with it, seems a bit early! These little containers are called "sour cream" treat holders, easy to make. Cut a piece of designer paper 5 1/2" x 4 1/4". See below, add adhesive to one of the short sides and a quarter of the long side. Peel away the film over the adhesive and roll the paper to mimic a toilet paper roll. Now remove the film from the adhesive on the other side and close the top. It should look like this..... add adhesive to the other side and close, make sure when you close the other side you close it opposite of the other side. It should look like this, one side goes one way and the other the other way. Here's a couple of other angles to see how it should look. Using the stamp set I stamped the owls and cut them out as well as punched out a heart image. On the owl below I used a exacto knife to cut away the owl's wing to slip the heart under. Once the containers are done use a hole punch to punch out the top to add ribbon to. I added some Valentine treats to the containers, the sky's the limit on what you can fit inside them. I didn't color the owl's in too much, just used Balmy Blue ink pad for the eyes and Crumb Cake for the beak and legs. For a little glitz I added some dazzling diamonds to the hearts and eyes. This stamp set will be available to you for FREE starting January 5th-28th of Febuary by just placing an order fof $50 or more from either the annual catalog or mini catalog. It's our annual Sale-a-bration where you earn free stampin up! products for every $50 spent!
Happy Sunday, friends! Time for a fun new creative challenge over at The Paper Players! This week, the lovely Jaydee is hosting our Theme Challenge. I just love the “Birds and/or Bees” Theme Jaydee selected! Our yard is in full bloom right now so this challenge came at the perfect time. It is so wonderful to sit outside and enjoy the buzzing bees & beautiful songs from the birds. The cardinals are always my favorite to listen to and watch! *I’ve listed all of the measurements and details for my card below and there is a full supply list at the very end of this post. Color Combo: Sweet Sorbet Tahitian Tide Parakeet Party Mango Melody The new Stampin’ Up!® 2022-2023 Annual Catalog goes live on May 3rd. I’m so excited for all of the fun new stamping goodies! For my card, I decided to use the new Sweet Songbirds stamp set and coordinating Songbird Builder Punch to create my own little cardinal inspired by the little guy in my yard. This is such a fun set to create with! I also used three of the new In Colors: Sweet Sorbet, Tahitian Tide and Parakeet Party. This year’s In Colors might be some of my favorite of ALL TIME! I’m having so much fun using them already. I actually made a bunch of these cards for my team swaps for the month. As a demonstrator, we can only order a limited amount of products during the catalog preorder. After I got started, I wasn’t sure I was going to have enough In Color Designer Series Paper for all of my swap cards. I had already used quite a bit on some other projects. So, I decided to create a fun pop of color and pattern in the background using 1/2” cardstock strips. This is a great way to use up some scraps and you could even make them a little smaller or larger, depending on the look you are going for. I also embossed the background with the Merry Melody 3D Embossing Folder, which was a perfect match for this sweet songbird! Card Measurements & Details: Sweet Sorbet Card Base: 4-1/4” x 11”, scored at 5-1/2” Basic White Cardstock: 4” x 5-1/4”, embossed with the Merry Melody 3D Embossing Folder Basic White Cardstock: 1-3/4” x 5-1/4” Sweet Sorbet, Tahitian Tide and Parakeet Party Cardstock: 1-3/4” x 1/2” pieces, adhered to the 1-3/4” x 5-1/4” Basic White Cardstock as shown. I stamped a little scene to keep the party going from the front of the card. I love that little bird, just walking along and singing his happy song. So cute! I skipped the sentiment to leave room for a handwritten thank you note. I hope you will join us this week over at The Paper Players and share your project for our fun “Birds and/or Bees”Theme Challenge. We’d love to see what you come up with! Last Thursday was my monthly card making night. It was my last "scheduled event" before my break for the summer and I decided to use all retiring sets (those that are still available!). I needed a little inspiration for my fourth card design and I knew I wanted to use the Bright Blossoms stamp set, so I went back into my card samples and found this one (also shown below). I had created this card a couple of years ago for a polka dot challenge. Bright Blossoms will be retiring June 2nd and is currently still available in both clear and wood mount. If you would like to get some of the retiring stamps before they are gone, feel free to visit my online store at heidiboos.stampinup.net and click on "shop now". You will find all of the retiring stamps and products HERE. Let me know if you have any questions! {BRIGHT BLOSSOMS} $12.95 / #125497 (clear mount) $16.95 / #128424 (wood mount) Everyone had plenty of sentiments to choose from and of course to get those straight images I had the Stamp-A-Ma-Jig handy! Instead of going with the red scheme (as in the card I was inspired by), I went with pink using the 2013-2015 In Color Strawberry Slush. Love that color!
