Hello crafters! It is a new week! The sun is shining and I hope you had a good weekend. Please note: this post has affiliate links, for which I receive a small percentage of sales generated by the link, at no extra cost to you. This week we have a Food or Drink theme at the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge Blog. I hope you will join us! And don't miss the lovely card by our March guest designer Ann Chuang. I love fruit and made a mixed media pear card this week. It started out as a tag, but I wanted more than one pear and decided to make a tall card instead. The card is about 9 x 3.5 in. The pears were colored with pencils and the background is inked with both Distress Ink and Distress Oxide Ink. Start by stamping the pear from Stamper's Anonymous Classics #1 three times on heavystock cardstock. Color the pears with colored pencils. I used Prismacolor pencils. Use a light colored pencil (yellow, pink/white) to blend the colors. Stamp the pears on Simon Says Stamp Masking Paper, cut out and place on the pears. Ink with various Distress Inks. Remove the masks and stamp the background here and there with Simon Says Stamp Crackle Background. Smear Mermaid Lagoon Distress Oxide Ink on a non-stick craft sheet and mist with water. Lightly press the paper into the ink. The pears will resist the ink and you can just wipe it off, but if you leave it to dry, there will be nice blue specks here and there on the pears too. Let dry and repeat with Scorched Timber Distress Ink. I added some highlights and details with a white gel pen and a white paint pen, as well as with a black pen. Distress the edges of the papers and stitch with a sewing machine. Don't worry about getting the coloring perfect, since we are aiming for a messy look. Add shadow and shading to the pears with both pencils and the black pen. The Distress Oxide Ink splotches almost shines on the background. More examples of the inky goodness. Fill in some of the text with a black pen if it is difficult to read. I hope you will join us this week in our Food and Drink challenge. You have a chance to win a $25 gift voucher to do some fun shopping at Simon Says Stamp. You have until Monday 8am Ohio time. 1pm UK time, 2 pm CET to join in. Do you use Instagram? If so please add #sssmchallenge so we can see your entries there too. Thank you so much for stopping by here today! Happy crafting! Hello all and happy Friday! It's the 5th Friday in April and that means we are having tag Friday over at A Vintage Journey. Several design team members are sharing tags today, so do go and check them out!! I used two size 10 tags to create this project, because I wanted to use one of my Tim Holtz mixed media dies and have the bottom tag peep through. I had a specific purpose in mind for this tag, as you will see in a moment. I'll give you a quick run through of how I got there.. I started with adding some Grunge Paste through a stencil. I am sorry, unfortunately I don't know the maker of this particular one... I also added some Finnabair Clear Crackle paste to various corners. Next I cut with one of the mixed media dies and then added colour with the help of Distress Paint and spray in Antique Linen and various colours of the new Distress Crayons, - Salty Ocean, Peacock Feathers, Vintage Photo and Ground Espresso. I really should have cut the die first, as |I wanted it in this particular corner, I had to turn the tag over before cutting, giving me a less crisp cut on the front, - ah well, live and learn.... Next I worked on the second tag, covering it with tissue wrap and then adding similar colours of Distress product. I also added some tissue tape to have some more text showing. Time to gather some embellishments, various Ideaology pieces and some cut out stamped images. Like usual I gathered some more as I was putting my tag together as you can see below. And here you can see the tag all layered up. I added the little globe die cut still, a gift from my lovely teamy Julie. I offset the two explore die cuts to create a kind of shadow effects and also added some background stamping, some remnant rubs and shadows to bring it all alive. Now, what is the tag for you may ask? Well, to become part of the cover of one of my sketchbooks, a lovely Moleskine one that is just the right size and had become really grubby so it needed a make over. I covered the front with a layer of extra thick gesso, not worrying about the inner part that was going to be covered anyway. I added some texture around the edges by pouncing a pallet knife while the gesso was still wet. I love the stucco effect you get with that. I then coloured it with Acrylic paint and adhered the tag in the center, and voilà. As you can see, the tag is the perfect size for this sketchbook. Here are some close ups still: Both the metal element and the number 14 were coloured and distressed with Distress Crayons, they are great for that, much quicker and easier than either paint or alcohol ink, and once they are heat set they are permanent. The words in red were all stamped using a very old Tim Holtz stamp, Photo Studio, I stamped them in Maroon Red Archival. Below finally is the back of the sketchbook: I had this bit of rice paper with the vintage car on it that I adhered to the back cover. I then blended it into the background with the help of some Distress paint and crayons, finally I stamped around the edges using part of a La Blanche stamp. Well, that's it for now. Hope you will take a look at the amazing tags my teamies have created, no shortage of inspiration. Meanwhile, thank you for visiting here and have a great weekend! xxx

You Have My Heart Card by Juliana Michaels featuring Sizzix Eileen Hull Faux Postage Die Set and Mixed Media Layering with Rub Ons, Ink and Paint
Hello all and happy April!! This moth at Mixed Media Monthly we want you to show us your super power..... Well to be honest, I did not find this an easy topic, so I decided I would let myself be inspired by nature, for to me, there is nothing more powerful then the magic Nature can display, especially at this time of the year. Our sponsor this month is Stampers Anonymous, the winner will get a set of Bret Wedele stamps and he is our guest designer too this month. Here is our grapic for this month's challenge, - be sure to include it if you are going to play along. I decided to make a butterfly the central feature of my project, for butterflies certainly display super power when they emerge from their chrysalis at this time of year. Below a few step by step photos: I started by putting down some texture through a couple of stencils, the one on the left is by Tim Holtz, the one on the right by Paper Artsy. Next I added colour with my Oxide Distress Inks, pressing colour down on my craft mat, spritzing with water and then dipping and drying until I was happy with the results. Those inks certainly display super powers too, I just love them and they inspire me to step right out of my colour comfort zone... I added some background stamping, using a couple of Wendy Vecchi background stamps, stamped in white acrylic paint. Raised bit were highlighted with normal Distress Ink. I cut my butterfly from card coloured with Oxides, using a Spellbinder die. I gathered some further embellishments and then put it all together. Below a few close ups: A flower cluster, coloured with Victorian Velver Distress Ink and for the leaves using a variety of dies cut from scraps of the same card the butterfly was cut from. The word highlighted with some chipped sapphire distress ink. And here at last, the finished card. The sentiment is one of the new Tim Holtz quote chips. Well that's it for now. Hope you will decide to play along with our challenge and be sure to hop over, get all the details of the challenge and see what my awesome teamies have created to inspire you!
