I was the Principal Environment Artist for RIGS MCL. A challenging and hugely rewarding VR project for a developer. I was tasked with finding a way we could design and build a new RIGS arena as close to post launch as possible. Considering how well our small tutorial arena had been recieved, and the known VR issues we had overcome within it, we decided that we could use that as a base direction for new arena. I worked very closely with design from day 1 and we decided that the arena would be symmetrical across both axis. Although good from a production point of view, the visual challenge would be how to make it interesting. Asyemmetry came from the stadium and immediate surround. The main Rigs HQ building would be the main figurehead, these helped break symmetry to a point and helped with navigation. This was pushed further by the red/blue side trope we had established game wide. The final touches being the layering of large scale graphics, particulary the giant Rig wall ones!
