Happy New Year! As we enter 2023, many of us are looking for ways to improve our lives and take proactive steps towards creating better habits. Why not include your pet in that process? After all, they are part of the family and deserve to have their own resolutions too! In this blog post, we’ll be discussing some tips on how to include your pet in your new year's resolutions as well as discuss whether or not you should actually make resolutions for them. We’ll also talk about how to make sure those resolutions are healthy and achievable for both you and your furry friend! So, let’s jump right in! How to Include Your Pet on Your New Year's Resolutions Including your pet in your new year's resolutions is a great way to make sure that you are both getting the most out of the year ahead. For example, if one of your resolutions is to get more exercise, why not include your pet? Going for walks together or playing fetch in the park can be beneficial for both of you! You can also set goals such as brushing their teeth more often or taking them to the vet regularly. These small steps will go a long way towards helping keep your pet happy and healthy! Should I Make Resolutions For My Pet? Yes! Making resolutions for your pet is actually a great way to help ensure they stay healthy and happy throughout the year. Many pets have specific needs and making resolutions tailored to those needs can help you stay on top of their care. For example, if your pet has allergies or special dietary requirements, setting a resolution to make sure you stick to those guidelines can be beneficial for them. How To Make Healthy, Attainable Resolutions When it comes to making resolutions for your pet, it’s important that they are both healthy and attainable. Start by setting small goals that are easy to achieve and then gradually build from there. This will ensure that neither one of you gets overwhelmed with too much at once and it will also help keep you both motivated throughout the year. Additionally, try not to set unreasonable expectations as this may lead to disappointment when they are not achieved. Examples of new year's resolutions for you and your pet include: • Regular visits to the vet. • Taking a daily walk together. • Brushing their teeth more often. • Starting a new exercise routine. • Making sure they get enough rest and relaxation time each day. • Keeping up with their grooming needs, such as nail trimming and brushing. Be sure to introduce a consistent skincare routine on your wrinkly doggo to stay ahead of any potential skin issues. • Eating healthy and balanced meals throughout the year. The Bottom Line New Year's resolutions can be a great way to help both you and your pet stay on the right track throughout the year. Use these tips to help ensure that your pet is included in your resolutions and that they are attainable and healthy for both of you! Regular vet checkups are important for all dogs, but they are particularly important for wrinkly breeds like English Bulldogs, French Bulldogs, and Pugs. Why? These breeds aren't unhealthier than any others, but are prone to some health issues that other breeds aren't. Here are the top 10 reasons why you should bring your wrinkly doggo to the vet: 1. To Monitor General Health Veterinary visits provide an opportunity to monitor the overall health of your pup. The vet will be able to detect potential signs of illness or infections early on and address them immediately before they can become more serious. 2. Vaccinations In order to protect your pup against certain diseases, it is essential that they stay up-to-date with their vaccinations. The veterinarian can administer necessary shots as part of a preventive care plan. 3. Skin Health Wrinkly breeds are prone to skin issues, such as bacterial and yeast infections on their folds. Prevention is key when it comes to fold dermatitis. Pet parents can first cleanse their dogs with wet wipes specifically made for wrinkles. These wipes are necessary for removing fungus, yeast and bacteria from their skin folds. Created specifically for dog wrinkles, Squishface Wrinkle Wipes will help to clean and prevent irritated, infected, or stinky dog wrinkles. Wrinkles are also prone to bacteria because they are warm and moist. Anything a dog comes into contact with— food, water, dirt— can find its way into their folds. A great paste to use for combatting these issues is the Squishface Wrinkle Paste. This paste helps address stinky dog wrinkles, but it also helps prevent them. Pet parents should apply this paste to their doggos every day for best results. That said, the vet can diagnose any skin problems that may be present and provide appropriate treatments, if needed. 4. Respiratory Issues Due to their shorter muzzles, wrinkly breeds may suffer from certain respiratory issues. These include conditions like brachycephalic obstructive airway syndrome and laryngeal paralysis. A veterinarian can assess your pup's breathing and recommend any necessary treatments if they're experiencing difficulty with respiration. 5. Parasite Prevention The vet will also be able to check for parasites such as fleas, ticks, and mites that can cause irritation, infection, and other health problems in wrinkly pups. While it may be tempting to try at-home remedies, it is best to consult a vet for any parasite issues. 6. Weight Management Overweight and underweight dogs can develop serious health issues, so it is important to regularly monitor your pup’s weight. A vet will be able to tell you if your dog is at a healthy weight and provide tips on how to adjust their diet accordingly. 7. Nutrition Advice Your vet can also advise you on the best food for your pup based on their age, breed, and lifestyle. If you suspect your dog might have allergies or food sensitivities, a vet will be able to confirm and suggest changes to their diet. 8. Spay/Neuter It is important to get your pup spayed or neutered in order to prevent unwanted litters of puppies that may have unknown genetic diseases or health problems. 9. Behavioral Counseling If you have any questions about your pup’s behavior, the vet can provide advice on how to best address any issues. 10. Illness Diagnosis If your pup is exhibiting abnormal symptoms, such as vomiting, lethargy, or loss of appetite, the vet can diagnose and provide treatment to get your pup back on their feet as soon as possible. The Bottom Line Bringing your pup to the vet on a regular basis is essential for their overall wellbeing. With these 10 reasons in mind, you can be sure that your pup is getting all of the care they need to stay happy and healthy!
