The Sea Glass Victorian Cottage Dollhouse This is the Sea Glass Cottage Dollhouse. My vision for this house was a wonderful light, open and airy house that might be located near an ocean.A wonderful beach house that you could spend summers in. The wrap around porch, porch swing, and lookout tower, all perfect for enjoying summers by the sea. Two houses I love were the inspiration for this house. The first, the house from the TV show Revenge that the character Emily lives in. The second was this house pictured below in Key West that was purchased by Calvin Klein during the years I lived on the island. For years it was just know as " the most photographed" house by locals. I love the fresh crisp white and the sea glass aqua accent color. Real house in Key West Florida Inspiration for The Sea Glass Cottage Full length windows were added, and small eyebrow windows to top floors for extra light The lookout tower was a fun custom addition. The extra gingerbread added great balance to the overall house. The ship wheel laser trim is available, as are all other laser trims from Heritage laser. Add caption Extra gingerbread pieces were cut and used over the windows. Lets take a look inside before getting back to the porch and flower details. The color scheme was soft to mid tone corals and aqua to warm turquoise, and lots of clean whites. The Spiral staircase is the jewel of the interior. The laser cut outs are a smaller scale matching design of the gingerbread used on the porch. Let's step back outside and check out the details of the porch and landscaping. I made these two sea shell urns for each side of the front door.Shells are lovely for summer and bringing the ocean motif up to the house. All the lovely porch gingerbread is available from Heritage laser. The hanging baskets are lush and full with summery ferns, pink geraniums, caladiums, and light pink filler flowers. The flower beds were done in mixed mediums with colors in shades of pink, water blue, and again, lots of fresh white. The textures were important in this design. The mix of slightly weedy, and wind blown feeling , blended with structured garden flowers. a side porch entrance was part of the design change to give a very open and inviting feel to the porch. a ceiling fan was also added to the center of the gazebo area with fan blades painted to match the shutters and move just a bit of color from the house out. So, this was my essence of all that is wonderful about summer house. The house is cool , light and fresh in design, and you can just feel and smell the ocean breeze blowing through the screen door and lightly moving the fern fronds in the hanging baskets. I hope you all have a wonderful rest of the summer............ Lots of love from South Florida.

The Queen Anne Cottage Welcome to my bucket list dollhouse house! This is the house I have always wanted to make. Thanks to the new tech of laser available for dollhousing , and the perfect custom pieces created for it by Sharon from Heritage Laser I was able to create my vision. The Queen Anne house is a real house located in Arcadia California. It was used in a TV show called “Fantasy Island “and the movie “Meet the Fockers.” The property that includes a Lagoon was also used in the original Tarzan movies. The house real was built to be a guest house. This is pic of the real house I found in a book years ago and had saved. The dollhouse is happily living now in the corner of my dining room. We put casters on the bottom of the cabinet, so it can turn around easily to access the back for decorating. So, this was the beginning. This was not the vintage kit ! I actually had purchased that kit and it was horrible! It is crazy big and the composition wood is awful. I threw it all away. I was able to used a few pieces from the tower kit. But the actual design/ plan for the house was just from looking at pictures of the real house. The real house has a wrap around porch on both sides and I really love that but it just made the footprint of the house to big. As you can see I originally kept one porch on the right side . However I ended up cutting that porch off after I even had done the foundation. It was just going to be to wide for the space I had to display it in the dining room. The finished house is now 39 in wide On the display board. The foundation of this house is much higher than I normally do. The real house has a high foundation so I went with it. The wood is 2 1/2 inches high. This meant that I was going to need a ton of bricks made to do the entire foundation. I cut all the egg carton lids I had saved. They were not enough, so I ended up buying egg cartons on eBay. I had them painted and drying all over my bed. I actually only have a small sandwich bag of them left from all of this . Now for the laser ! Trays and trays and trays, three coats of paint and sanding in between. At least the wall pieces only needed painted on one side. The tower! The tower was quite a challenge. I did use a few pieces from the original kit but the kit tower was not tall enough, and did not get smaller as it went up like the real house tower. I also wanted to add a spiral staircase to it. I made red geraniums for two days for these planters. I got the idea for having the planters from the Fockers movie. The very top roof piece ended up being from a small wood bird house I got at a craft store. Let’s take a look inside This floor is actually a piece of cork that I brushed with paint. It was from an older wallpaper border. This floor is a print of an authentic Cuban tile. Back out front for a few more details So hope you enjoy seeing this house. I can’t wait to start decorating !

A few weeks ago I was asked to display my dollhouses at a local retirement village. The country house was in a state of chaos because I'd been changing rooms around. I hastily sorted it out and made a few new bits of furntiture. I thought you might like to see how the house looks now (it's not entirely finished). Cake, rice krispie treats and pancakes are all recently arrived gifts from the awesomely talented Kim Saulter. It was a nightmare transporting the houses to the village, I don't like sticking everything down and I went over a bumpy road and heard everthing go flying! It took me an hour and a half to set everything up again when I got there and I was thinking 'never again'! However, so many people got to see and enjoy the houses that weekend it made it all worthwhile. In fact so many people came to look that they had to get extra staff in the village cafe to cater for them, lol! Mercedes

This is the Elizabeth Street Victorian Dollhouse. The base color is a soft pink tone that has just a hint of light peach to it. The primary trim is a very pale yellowish cream. It also has accents of a deep coral pink, and spring green. This house is all about the porches. The double layered laser cut porch trims just give this house an amazing lacy and soft inviting feeling. Let's explore the porches. Notice that the focal patterns of the two porches are different. I did not want matchey, matchey on it. The two separate styles, just make it fun and more interesting. The porch is all about enjoying the outside. You can almost feel the breeze and hear the birds when your eyes move across this porch. Somehow all the busy texture of the laser gives you the feeling of life, and things growing. The patterns have a flowing feeling of movement to them. The porch roof trim was custom sized. The stick and ball trim is one inch wide, and so the porch roof trim also needed to be one inch , just to continue the pattern moving up the design in that width. So, thanks to Sharon at Heritage Laser for doing that. Even though I could just spend the day on porch, visualizing a total relaxing day, I guess we should see the inside of the house. So let's take a look from the back. With the exterior of the house being so soft and light, using stained trim was a good way to kind of ground the design and balance all the lightness. The English chestnut color is warm, rich and works well against the Victorian wallpapers. Now let's go back outside and enjoy the florals. Across the front are full in bloom pink Hydrangeas. The texture and side of the blooms were chosen for a great compliment to the scroll pattern of the railing laser. One of the pink tones is a match to the house color which steps the eye down and out from the house. Moving color and pattern in a design is always a challenge, but worth the extra effort of thought. Doesn't every Victorian house need an over the top cherub bird bath! This bird bath is set into a bed of full in bloom Burmese Roses. Also a few light apricot tulips, and rosy floral texture. The three lush fresh looking hanging baskets are just simple ferns and two types of caladium leaves. Green and white, and pink. Simplicity was the basket choice that just worked for this house. The ferns look fresh and cool. The green compliments the green trim color and the touch of pink, again, moves the pink color through the design. Thanks again to Heritage laser for the lovely work that just makes this house a beauty.
