Before the flyover was constructed in 1972, traffic had direct access to the Pier Approach. In 1969 the changeover from the old trolleybuses to the deisel engined buses was complete. There had been a final grand parade of trolleybuses travelling through the town in April 1969. On the left is the Pier Approach Baths that opened in 1937 and closed in 1984 before being demolished in 1986. The original town baths had occupied the site in 1838 before being replaced by Sydenham's and the replacement baths in 1865. It is, of course, where The Waterfront [ Imax ] stands today. On the left is the pier entrance building that stood between 1930 and 1979.
