Phytoplankton is perhaps the most important organism on Earth. It helps our planet to breathe, as it is responsible for half of the total amount of oxygen produced by all plant life. An interesting fact however, is that the only place in the world where people can't breathe is in the ocean. Phytoplankton is the foundation of the marine food chain, it looks very beautiful from space and it's gorgeous when you see it through a microscope.
