Beautifully hand painted LARGE DELFT GINGER JAR by PLATEELBAKKERIJ SCHOONHOVEN Netherlands! 🌴Please click "LEARN MORE ABOUT THIS ITEM” for full description/size/condition🏺 Statement piece! Delft stylized classic peony florals accent the central medallion and spread out on both sides as an arrangement. This takes up almost 2/3rds of the vase. The rear is a simple singular floral stem. Floating above are two tulips! The base border is decorated with a type of Tako Karakusa (arabesque curlicues) whilst the rim border is a simpler Delft/Chinois classical border. This vase could've easily been made without the lid and acceptable. But with the lid, it makes it just that more special as lids are damaged or destroyed over the decades and centuries! The family business is located in an area between Wal and the Molenstraat. On the grounds is a former Catholic church that is currently in use as a biscuit factory. Architect Newport from Sliedrecht make a design for the new pottery factory and the building permit is granted by the municipality Schoonhoven smooth on August 16, 1920. At the end of that year, all products made pottery. These products seem at first sight very similar to Gouda pottery, that in this period flourished experience. In 1926 Frans van Katwijk acts as a partner. He is simultaneously artistic director at the company, having started in 1923 as a painter at the factory. Besides attention for the scenes he spends too much time on the development of experimental glazes. The whole hand painting is too expensive, that's why there are experimenting with spray glazes and new models. Also a new kind of pottery Terra Lith, is made. With these innovations will Frans van Katwijk at international fairs much success. The factory is now expanded. In 1929 the factory gets a major rebuild an entirely new facade on shore in the style of the New Objectivity. There are several successful decors such as mushroom, Danube and Corel. Besides ornamental pottery is becoming more and more opportunity pottery produced. In 1923 the plant was first commissioned this pottery. On the occasion of the 25th jubilee of Queen Wilhelmina, produces a commemorative pottery vase. Further designs of artists (including animal sculptures) performed. From the 50s also in delft blue. In that period alone, 63 painters employed. The son of Tijs Visser, Nico, follows in the fifties his father as director. End of 1982, SA converted into a limited company and Nico Visser succeeded by his son Joop Visser and his son Hans van Dorst. The pottery Schoonhoven still exists, but is called from 2000 Schoonhoven Ceramics and aims to produce and sell gift items in ceramics. 🌷 🌷 🌷 🌷 🌷 🌷 🌷 🌷 🌷 🌷 🌷 🌷 🌷 🌷 🌷 🌷 Delft Chargers were highly sought after display pieces as an alternative to framed oil paintings. Royalty, nobility, wealthy merchants and even rich farmers acquired these examples of hand painted art! Many of the depicted themes were actually copies of popular (now famous) original oil paintings of the Dutch artists and masters. The other themes primarily were Chinois patterns copied from the Ming imports. When rich farmers held a large celebration, they would clear out the barn and then hang Delft Chargers either on the horse stalls or the walls of the barn as part of the party decor for the rustic party venue! “Old Delft” were expensive and mostly used to flaunt their owner's status and wealth by displaying in their formal dining rooms and other public rooms of their estates. These Delft pieces were exported all over the Western world including the New World as found in Williamsburg and other colonial towns in both North and South America. Delft manufacturers were threatened by Chinese imports, but when China went through their times of troubles and the kilns destroyed and potters killed, the Delft makers capitalized on the sudden rarity of Chinese exports and imitated Ming and Wanli/Kraak patterns to supply the continually growing demand. Eventually Delft potters began using their own patterns and incorporating what has become “iconic” themes of Dutch Windmills, Canals, Nautical and Biblical renditions. When the Chinese Imperial government stabilized, kilns were rebuilt, but found they had lost most of their market share. To regain that share, they began copying the Dutch designs. The humor in all this, is that many of the Dutch designs were copies of Chinese patterns! With all these cross-copying of patterns, meaning was lost and “fanciful” unreal patterns resulted! 🌷 🌷 🌷 🌷 🌷 🌷 🌷 🌷 🌷 🌷 🌷 🌷 🌷 🌷 🌷 🌷 July 4th Independence Day > USA July 21st Liberation Day WWII > GUAM/USA Sep 14th Liberation Day WWII > MAASTRICHT, NL Just wanted to take the opportunity to share this regarding WWII and the people of Holland in regards to the people of the US > Near Maastricht, in Margraten, is the Netherlands American Cemetery. It is the only American military cemetery in Holland and where 8,301 of our soldiers rest eternal. There are Tablets of the Missing that contain 1,722 names. It's a beautiful and fitting resting place. I mention this because, we visited in 2010 and it was early May just after Koninginnedag (Queen's Birthday) as we were meeting a Dutch aunt who's married to a German citizen and they live in Germany and Maastricht is the halfway point from where we were staying. We were surprised and amazed at the thousands of visitors and the fresh flowers on EVERY GRAVE! It turns out, that ever since the cemetery was first created, every US Soldier's grave had been adopted by a nearby local family (also Belgian and German families across the border) and is visited several times a year and flowers laid and the soldier honored and remembered on certain holidays! It brought us to tears that after all this time, that the Dutch continue to honor and remember our soldier's ultimate sacrifice in helping to liberate their country! ANTIQUE 18TH/19th CENTURY DELFTS BLAUW GINGER JAR! 🌴Please click "Learn more about this item” for full description/size/condition🏺 Strong cobalt blue hues painted with both bold and delicate brush strokes old tin glazed piece! The Japonais border patterns give an exotic feel to the Euro/Dutch tableau! The main medallion features iconic Dutch symbols with a canal, fishing boat and a "molen"/windmill draining the water from the polder into the canal. In the horizon, can be seen another molen and a steepled church perhaps surrounded by a small farming community. The floral borders of the medallion seem to be "botan"/peonies. The top and bottom of the medallion are graced with Japanese "karakusa"/arabesque curlicues commonly used in borders. Both sides of the vase are painted with a kiku blossom with stem and leaves and also a botan blossom with stem and leaves. The rear depicts a bouquet of both kiku and botan blossoms held together with a stylized string/ribbon :-) The lid sports what looks like to me, a "kiku"/chrysanthemum with karakusa above and the sides. Below the kiku is a lattice pattern I see a lot on faience pieces from or intended for the Francophone market. The other pattern that alternates with the kiku, looks like botan. The lid's rim is decorated in additional karakusa border pattern. Baluster form lidded vases have always been my favorite! This form is also ribbed, softening the overall feel! The collar is decorated with "karakusa"/arabesque curlicues. Gracefully hand painted DELFTS BLAUW FLORAL GINGER JAR by DE PORCELEYNE FLES of Delft, Netherlands! 🌴Please click "Learn more about this item” for full description/size/condition🏺 My Dutch Goodwife considers "Fles" as "true delft" insofar as the dark cobalt blue palettes that contrast against the blue tinged "white" background! (and is the oldest surviving Delft Potter in Delft, NL!) It's a beautiful garden scene of flowers and leaves! I like to think of these "delft" flowers as a stylized version of Chinois "tree peony" blossoms that pottery painters were flatteringly imitating hundreds of years ago from Ming designs. The main decor takes up 5 of 6 panels and the last back panel is a simple single stemmed leaf frond. The pattern includes Japanese "karakusa" arabesque curlicues. The cute finial is an indistinct lion. Fles has dated most of their wares since 1879 using double letters. There's a sibling set available (link below) and extra pieces if you wish to make a 5pc or 8pc garniture/kaststel set. I am in the market for some pretty blue and white ceramic garden seats for my living room. These fine examples were sold by Skinner Auctioneers & Appraisers (here in Boston). I have been tempted to buy a mass produced version online for $100 or less, but the real thing can also be had for a reasonable price, as you'll see here. I've included the expensive stools too because they are too beautiful to overlook. My favorites. This pair sold for a reasonable $356. How about two seats plus an umbrella stand for $88? All modern pieces and not antiques, but an excellent buy. My second favorites because of their delicate beauty and price. Sold for $95. Stunning, but sold for $3,185. Alas, $2,252 This bold pair sold for $1,715. So, I will try to sit tight, hold onto my wallet and wait for a unique and reasonably priced piece at Skinner. I hope it won't be a long wait.

Hi Everyone! I have been uber busy this past spring/summer, getting ready for an open-to-the-public art studio tour. Here is the link to Arts North! Studio Tour. I will be showcasing my fabric and wallpaper designs as my art form. I will also be hosting 3 guest artists in my own home - hopefully they will all fit into the dining room! I will be right next to them in my tiny, but pretty art studio room. (more photos of that after the tour is over) This will be my very first time participating in such an event and the first time ever having the public entering my tiny cottage! Talk about pressure and nervousness... I have been scrambling to not only design fabrics and make things with them (like throw pillows, chair slipcovers, sachets, tea towels, etc), but also to whip the few rooms open to the tour, into viewable shape. Mainly, the dining room, which is the first room of the house upon entry. The room needed to be upgraded so my sweetheart and I installed beadboard wainscoting all around the room, which I then caulked and painted. We tried our hand at crown molding which is now caulked and painted too. So much work! But so worth it. It really adds character to a room, a house. We will do this in the family room too - a winter project! I then repainted the walls a lighter blue and wallpapered one small wall area, to showcase my designs and how they work together to create a cohesive look in the room. The rest of the wallpaper will get done after the tour. I have 3 guest artists who will be hanging their framed art on the walls and the last thing I want are numerous nail holes in my newly hung wallpaper! I designed the wallpaper to coordinate with the curtains and slipcovers on all the chairs! I thought I'd share one small corner of this room (the rest isn't ready yet!!) as I am 10 days out from the studio tour and still have loads to get done. Years ago I painted murals and furniture for a living and after I left that behind for a career in graphic design, I still painted pieces for my own home. The table is a piece I did 10 years ago, or so. Way before chalk paint! I used acrylic latex over Kilz primer. Several coats of paint in a soft white and a pale Swedish blue. Protected with 3 coats of Crystalfin poly acrylic in semi-gloss. The top was done with a fine nap roller. No unsightly, unprofessional brush marks anywhere!! (and I am proud of that) I added faux nailhead from Do it Yourself Chic and gilded it with composite sheet gold leaf, as well as parts of the base. The fabrics are all mine, sewn from my designs I feature for sale on Spoonflower. If you are looking for fabrics and wallpaper in a Swedish cottage look, please visit my shop: LilyOake I adore the linen cotton canvas and have nearly all my designs printed on that fabric content, but there are 18 different fabrics available, plus 2 types wallpaper and gift wrap too! Let me know what you think! And if you're in Seattle on September 12th and 13th, please swing by to say hello and tour the other 11 studios with their guest artists, in the neighborhood. A table I painted 10 years ago, pre-chalk paint. Gilded and protected by Crystalfin, its still like new after heavy use! The table base with Swedish blue and gilded accents....and an elegant tail model, courtesy of Tessie! Sweet Pea models one of the linen slipcovered chairs, in "Jane's Rose Bouquet" in blueberry.
STUNNING DELFTS BLAUW HORSE & RIDER BY PLATEELBAKKERIJ ZUID-HOLLAND! 🌴Please click "LEARN MORE ABOUT THIS ITEM” > full description/size/condition🏺 PZH originating in Gouda, was "way out there" in producing "gouda-ware" and "art nouveau" and pretty much doing their own thing, ha! I've always enjoyed the palette in Delft Blue and that the patterns are either non-traditional Delft or just a bit. Large statement piece! The rider's coat is decorated in florals matching his charger. With the stallion one leg up, old symbolism means the rider was wounded in battle? The horse is decorated in quintessential delft florals of peonies. I like to think the base border is decorated in stylized Oranges and Leaves representing the House of Orange of the Netherlands, ha! That this has survived intact 79 years is amazing! That this was made during WWII Occupation and someone could afford it is also amazing! I don't see much PZH Delft Blue out and about...perhaps as their main production was Gouda style pottery? 🌷 🌷 🌷 🌷 🌷 🌷 🌷 🌷 🌷 🌷 🌷 🌷 🌷 🌷 🌷 July 4th Independence Day > USA July 21st Liberation Day WWII > GUAM/USA Sep 14th Liberation Day WWII > MAASTRICHT, NL Just wanted to take the opportunity to share this regarding WWII and the people of Holland in regards to the people of the US > Near Maastricht, in Margraten, is the Netherlands American Cemetery. Thank you to the anonymous Dutch, Belgian, and German families who remember and honor our fallen! 🌷 ⚘ 🌷 ⚘ 🌷 ⚘ 🌷 ⚘ 🌷 ⚘ 🌷 ⚘ 🌷 ⚘ 🌷 ⚘ 🌷 ⚘ 🌷 ⚘ I'm not an expert on Porcelain. Sometimes I feel a little blue & white obsessed… but between you and me? I am totally okay with it. Like that time I used a vintage teacup for those pretty camellia blooms. Or when I set the table with vintage inspired blue & white dishes And when I ordered those pretty blue goblets …
