Simple No Sew Swimsuit Cover: This easy no sew swimsuit cover has become my girls most loved and often worn article of clothing this summer.
We have been going to the beach about every other day and I love it! I am so happy that I made this coverup. It is getting lots of use. After seeing this pin everywhere on Pinterest I knew I wanted to make my own. The only problem was I couldn't fine a pin that was actually a link to the original site. So I just went ahead and made it up myself. Once I was done I went back and I did find that it is from Victoria's Secret on clearance for $39.99. But don't go buy it. All I needed to make it was one yard (36" x 55") of jersey knit material. With a coupon for Joann's I probably only spent about $7. Oh, and a hot glue gun. That's right you don't even need to sew! 1) Cut the fabric. You might want to try it on to get your own measurements but for me I cut the 36" side down to 26". 2) Use the smaller piece for the braid. I think any kind will work but I did a 5 strand braid and used all of the fabric. To learn how to do the 5 strand braid go here. 3) Once that was done I measured how big I wanted the arm whole to be. For me this was 20". Then I cut the long braid and glued the ends to I had two 20" braids. 4) Then I glued six inches of the braid onto the back side of the fabric. Make sure you glue the braid so the six inches are going down the short (26") side of fabric. I then looped the braid around and glued the loose end to the inside of first end of the braid. (Does that make sense?) It made a nice arm spot. Repeat on the other end of the material. So if you lay out the fabric, and you do the arm on the backside of the top left corner do the other arm on the backside of the top right corner. 5) Now if it fits how you like you can be done here. For me the back of the cover up was hanging way to low on my body so I just bunched the fabric on the edge of the left side (make sure it is a part that the front of the coverup covers) and put a dot of glue to hold the bunch together. It should fit now!

Make a beach cover up - Easy and cute DIY tutorial - sew a swimsuit cover - Melly Sews
If you are on Pinterest then you have undoubtedly seen this cover up. via Fabulous right? I knew I could make one but I am always cautious with sewing projects. They don't always turn out horribly but it's about 50/50. Added to that, jersey and I aren't great friends. Still I looked at their linked tutorial and figured I could do it. The only thing I didn't want to do was sew. I figured jersey doesn't need hems, why make life more difficult? So here it is. My version of the swim-suit cover up. Materials: 1.75 yds jersey (I'm 5'11" and about a size 8-10 so you can scale up or down from that) contrasting embroidery thread scissors 10 minutes of your life. Seriously, I did this while my husband snoozed one morning. Step 1: Lay out your fabric Step 2: Trim down the length. This was pretty unscientific for me. I wrapped it around myself to make sure it would go all the way around and then cut down the length. I used an old sarong to measure the length but that ended up being too long still. Step 3: Fold in half. Step 4: Round the corners. I feel like this makes it look more professional and finished. It also makes the straps easier to cut. Step 5: Cut out arm holes. The first time I cut them too big. Major side boob showage. Luckily the dress was too long so I trimmed about another foot off and cut my arm holes a bit narrower. This is why jersey and I aren't friends. It is heavy and stretchy so it hangs. Okay, so I don't look like the model but I still like the way it fits. As for the embroidery thread, this is an optional step but I like the way it finishes the straps. I wish I had pictures of this but I actually had to have Daniel do it. I highly suggest getting someone to help since it will make it fit better if you wrap the straps while you are wearing it (again stretchy fabric). Obviously mine is much longer than the original but I like the length. It is more comfortable and covers a bit better. I can always shorten later if it proves too long. You could probably do this project for under $10 but I splurged on this fabric. The color is perfect! Just in time for our Jamaica trip next week. AAK! so soon! The kitchen cabinets are well on their way. We are doing the first coat of paint today. More tomorrow! Anyone else have any fun trips coming up? They always seem to sneak up on me. Cheers!
